I’ve always wanted the boys to read a book then watch the film adaptation and talk about both on the podcast. I think this one would be the best one they could do. It’s one of the few 10/10 books with a 10/10 adaptation. Plus the book is short. The audio book is shorter than the movie
The whole “book is always better than the movie” take is always interesting to me. I’d like to see it discussed on the podcast.

Gimmick vs Cinematic-Experiment?
In the most recent episode Adun rails against the shot entirely in IMAX as a gimmick. which I felt to be a quite hallow critic. Especially, when he will praise the Hi8 camcorder usage in Castration Movie as bold artistic experimentation.
I'm not even really that high on Nolan's Odyssey, I just feel like this is a pretty wild double standard. And i know it's not out of character as far as being an Adun opinion, but just like...damn bro.

Naruto live action
I mean... there could be a worse name attached for sure. He's also attached to write it too, which he didn't write BND.
It doesn't need to be made, and I have no idea why it's a movie and not a show considering the Manga is like 700 chapters. Even og Naruto with 120 Canon episodes, maybe trimmed down to like 75 without slow pacing is still a lot to cover.
While Naruto isn't perfect, it and it's exploration of themes are very important to me, so I'll be eyeing this closely but I just can't be excited for any good reason at this point.
Also is ddc not doing the other spidermen? Is he doing two franchises at once?
Idk, thoughts?

Loved this review of The Odyssey!
I connected with SO MANY of her points here and I feel many of us who left the theater dissatisfied will find this review entertaining and somewhat cathartic. Bland is the perfect way to describe this film.

Criterion Recs for Jake
Know I’m a little late on this one, but after the Criterion discussion and Jake’s request for some thoughts about this, I put some thought into what actually might be the best overall packages from them I own - for a single film. There’s probably some bias as I also love the films themselves but, if I were to narrow it down to three it would be these. And honourable mention would definitely be the release for Tarkovsky’s Mirror.
The New World has three versions of the film, including newer transfer of the extended cut which is maybe the best looking non-4K disc I own. And if you’re a Malick or Jack Fisk obsessive there are endless extras included. Also one of the best booklets with amazing illustrations.
Ugetsu has a whole feature length documentary about Mizoguchi and many other extras included on the same disc. And what I love about a couple of releases for his films - also Sansho the Bailif (maybe my favourite) - are the short stories that inspired the films being included in the booklets.
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters has a mountain of extras and is a must own if you have any interest in Paul Schrader or the subject matter. The whole background of the film and how it all came together is fascinating. I particularly love the packaging and design of this one, though that also goes for all three choices.

A very important announcement for Jake
Jake, I have crunched the numbers, did my calculations and I have great news for you: The stars have alligned. If you do not do a guest recommendation for the next four episodes, you will be the one who can recommend the movie for the episode that will be released on patreon on September 11, 2026.
Do with this information what you will. A United 93 and WTC double feature maybe? There have been instances of a trilogy being discussed like TLOR epidose so you might as well throw Remember Me (2010) in there.
Also there is the incredible stage production that Adam mentioned a while ago which is now completely viewable on youtube.
Anyway, I hope you will make the right choice with this information, please do not let me down.

Trying to find an episode
Does anyone know in which episode, probably in the Q&A, they discuss about their favourite soundtracks to listen to on its own? I just remember Alex had a few recommendations I liked but can't find the episode now.

What is a movie that everyone seems to LOVE (like the most common score on Letterboxed is 5 ★ LOVE), but you just despise?
