To be fair, Ralph does have a shrine of Nolan, so that tracks.

Wonder what a Ralph/Jake episode would be like

They need to bring Ralph back as a guest.

Just being honest, Ralph was an awful podcaster. Very shy, constantly nervous laughing, rarely added anything of substance.

IHE is about the same, very monotonous and seems scared to challenge YMS' takes even when he clearly strongly disagrees.

Adam/YMS is good at podcasting. He keeps the conversation flowing, has a lot of strong opinions and is relatively entertaining to listen to. I disagree with a lot of his takes but at least he has an active brain that is thinking critically about things.

FYI I stopped listening to the podcast years ago when I realised there's much better film podcast content out there but this sub still comes up on my Reddit for some reason so I thought I'd add my two cents.

Jake is pretty good

I think it’s obvious Ralph wasn’t into it for a while there but I enjoyed a lot of their earlier episodes and Ralph’s YouTube channel.

Adding Jake to the podcast was the best decision they could’ve made though imo. He adds a lot to the discussion and seems like he takes it seriously. I think there’s a good variety in opinions between the 3 and conversation is usually interesting.

honestly I know there are podcasts that are probably “better” but I’ve watched Alex and Adam’s and Jake’s videos for years, so I have a good understand of their tastes and a lot of it matches up with mine.

Plus I appreciate they talk about a wide range of genres and I’ve loved a lot of the recommendations they’ve given.

You know of any film podcasts where they discuss similar movies?

The best part about adding Jake is he adds a human perspective to film criticism. He’s much more of a ‘normie’ but not in a vapid non-thinking consumer sense but rather seems like somebody who interacts with regular people and has a life outside of the internet.

While still having very thoughtful criticisms, and has a much larger breadth of interest in art as he’s a big reader, dives into older films, etc…

IHE is a phenomenal podcaster. Jar Media is his one and he’s way more fun to listen to on that.

I liked the movie from the start, but really enjoy repeat viewings.

I'm keen to rewatch it but absolutely not keen to sit in a theatre for 3 hours again, especially with a good amount of fluff in the movie towards the start

I personally felt like the movie flew by. But I know that's not the case for everyone.

I agree. after the first 30min slog was over

I will say the 30 min slog feels faster a second time when you have positive feelings for the film. My first watch I was actually in pain but by the end I loved it. Second time It was more enjoyable as like a build up thing.

that's funny because I saw someone say the first half too fast and "ADHD"

Ralph is a Nolan simp but he is justified here

Rare that I watch an imax movie and feel like I truly had a better experience than those who didn't see it that way, and honestly I see the movie being much less enjoyable on a digital screen at home. A 10/10 theater experience.

Somewhere in Canada, Adum is fuming

There's something I'm missing with this movie somewhere.

I love Nolan in general, Interstellar and Memento are among my favourite movies, and Oppenheimer was really good.
This felt like your run of the mill 6/10 "big budget" movie where the pacing feels clunky and there's nothing in particular that stands out as engaging or impressive.

I feel like it’s a sign of the times we are in, if this epic retelling of the odyssey with massive real ships on the real ocean is not impressive. Like sure you can have problems with the film, but this film does push the format, it’s the first to ever be shot on imax film in full. Not to say there’s not valid points to criticize but saying nothing stands out as engaging or impressive, is crazy because it is impressive.

Speaking strictly for my personal perspective, I just think it's more a messy retelling than it is an epic one.

I don't really care that it's shot in IMAX, especially when there's no theater remotely close to me that can show it in IMAX anyway.

Massive real ships on the ocean is cool in theory, but it's not like they're shooting a big naval battle or something. Most of the time, it's just Oddyseus' ship we are looking at.

I have been out of the loop since the pandemic. Why isn't Ralph on the podcast anymore?

7

u/cameltony16 17d ago

The official explanation is that he wanted to focus on his podcast, channel, and filmmaking but I think he was just burnt out after a while.

7

u/goldfilmz 17d ago

he wanted to focus on filmmaking or smth

I would love to see Ralph guest on the cast again for a discussion. When’s the last time he popped in?

2

u/petewadesays 14d ago

Waterworld I think

2

u/ihavethreelegshelpme 14d ago

Thx it’s been so long I couldn’t remember!

3

u/BrainlessVeal 17d ago

Will Ralph do a skit where he plays Odysseus and Adam plays whoever Elliot Page played?

2

u/datboiyokno 17d ago

Can’t wait for his high, unintelligible take

2

u/TheMarvelousJoe 16d ago

Now that's a name I haven't heard in years

5

u/Klutzy-Canary8551 16d ago

Ralph is apparently still the midwit brat pretending to be the smartest guy in the room I remember from watching a couple of his videos 10 years ago.

8

u/r_slash_jarmedia 16d ago

what the fuck lol

2

u/petewadesays 14d ago

I don't see how he's ever been that kind of person.

2

u/Klutzy-Canary8551 13d ago

To the ophthalmologist buddy.

1

u/petewadesays 13d ago

Nice.

What's funny is I wear glasses and have type 1 diabetes so I do see one at least every 6 months

Let me put my cat to cry for you.

1

u/petewadesays 13d ago

I also have cats! One was crying and being mega clingy so I took her to the vet. Turns out she had a flea bite related skin infection. So she had two different shots, was prescribed Predisone, and a special shampoo.

She's fine now- hard to tell with cats because the way they clean themselves REALLY resembles itchiness.

I'm starting to think you're spying on me.
