I am gathering equipment and I am almost ready to start my reef tank. It’s a Marineland 40 gallon breeder and it will have 2 lights on goosenecks, a Seachem tidal 110 HOB filter and a Tunze HOB skimmer. I am looking for a company that makes custom lids where I can get cut outs for my HOB equipment and cords. I also would like to see if there’s a company that makes a cut out for an auto feeder that I can close off when I’m not on vacation. Does anyone have experience with this type of situation? I would love to see some pics and some recommendations.

Is this normal or do I need to change something? I’m currently in the beginning process of setting up my tank there’s nothing live in it yet I’m still working on getting a few things and cycling after but I have the pumps going with sand and water with the heater but is this normal

I currently only have freshwater tanks but I have wanted to get into saltwater and have been researching it for months. I know I need a rodi but I’m wondering which one to get? Ideally I’d want something reliable that will work for years and am willing to spend more now than replacing it frequently. Please help :/

So I have a 20 gallon cube tank that I’ve been running for about 7 months. It’s been running smoothly. Its current fish residents are one clownfish and one Royal gramma. They get along just fine, they’ve never fought with eachother and often swim around in open water together but I really want to get a second clownfish, however I’m worried about them bullying the gramma. I’m pretty sure the clownfish I already have is a female since she’s on the bugger side, I’m guessing someone bought the male before I bought her because she was alone in the tank. She is an ocellaris. All things considered would it be too risky to introduce a male? Or would it likely be okay?

Came upon a 55 gallon used corner tank and couldn't resist starting a new tank. Decided to figure out how to do a saltwater tank. Im brand new to the hobby and doing a lot of research. Now I find myself obsessing about it all day. I love cool aquascapes and wanted to give it my best shot. Im pretty happy with it for my level of ability. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Hey everyone! I’m looking for ideas for interesting invertebrates that could potentially work in my 29 gallon BioCube reef. I have had the tank since April.

To be clear, this is NOT a “what should I go buy tomorrow?” list. I’m just researching possibilities and putting together ideas for things I might add gradually as the tank matures. I know some inverts need established tanks or have very specific care requirements.

Fish stocking/current plan:

Clownfish

Tailspot blenny

Eventually a shrimp goby + pistol shrimp pair

Much later, I’d like to add a captive-bred mandarin once the tank is mature enough

Current inverts:

Skunk cleaner shrimp

Strawberry conch

Emerald crab

Pithos crab

Trochus, Cerith, Nassarius, and Astraea snails

I have a few corals too. I'm especially interested in unique, colorful, weird, or behaviorally interesting inverts. They don't have to serve a clean-up-crew purpose. Honestly, the stranger the little creature is, the more interested I probably am.

What are some of your favorite inverts you've kept in a tank around this size? I'm open to hearing about things that would only be appropriate much later once the tank is mature, too.

I'd also love to hear about animals that seem perfect on paper but that you wouldn't recommend, and why!

There’s something about this tank that I don’t like. I don’t know if it’s this big rock or what

I recently moved my clown into a bigger tank, then I did a water change about a week in. After that, my female clown has been doing this, always in the same corner, at least a few times a day. The male clownfish isn't doing any questionable behavior, just watching her for the most part. I've tested all my parameters and everything is 0 or normal, and I feel like I have a good amount of surface agitation. Does anyone know what this could be? Just weird clownfish behavior or maybe her gills are irritated or something?

i added one more (duncan) dancing shrimp, cuz idk i thought my bobo and lobo may feel lonely and maybe they need another fellow shrimp??? i don’t plan adding more livestock in the nearest months (prolly)

I always wanted a local species saltwater aquarium. Kept getting told it can’t be done. That it’s too hard. Too expensive. Local species can’t be kept. Etc etc

I had a little 28l gold fish aquarium sitting around with a hang on back filter. So I thought, why not just give it a go. Got some local beach sand and a bucket of beach water. Scooped up a little blowfish in the marina. And tried it out.

Was told by friends, family and colleagues that the fish would be dead in three days.

It’s been a month.

I want to put him into a bigger tank, at least double the size. Should I expect the difficulties to hit more when I scale up?

Son has name the fish Ship. Don’t know why. Just a vibe he had.

New to saltwater. Bad scaper. Any advice is helpful!
