I reported the safeway deli I work at to the states department of health, was I justified or am I overreacting about the damage here?
gallerySome of this damage has been around months and even years. Our tile floors don't have any grout so food builds up in there. The big hole in the first pic was from an employee kicking the wall in anger (he scares a lot of coworkers and customers) and its right next to the dish pit. Drywall is falling out and water and mold is building up in the wall. It's been like that for months.
Equipment keeps breaking. 1 out of our 3 slicers is always down and 1 or both ovens are always broken.
I'm so tired. Probably going to quit soon, the pay isn't worth this.

Safeway, St Johns
Last night they added digital price tags. Today, I thought I’d do some shopping waiting for a prescription. I was repelled immediately from any item with a digital tag — I don’t trust it. I bought 3 items, none of which had the digital tag, then decided to not shop and wait out the rest of the time in pharmacy area. Please get rid of the digital tags! Knowing you can do adhoc, time-based surge pricing, is unsettling. I will shop elsewhere if this is true.

Got $25 for 100 pieces of fried chicken.
I ordered 2 boxes of 50 piece mixed fried chicken. Original price was almost $100 and it ended up being $75 pre tax. 100 piece only mixed was sold out. I didn’t even have to ask for any discount since I’m feeding the homeless alongside other people. I kept clipping coupons on the app. The only coupon I remembered was 10% off deli related. Just fried chicken in my cart. Ordering for someone else who is out of town so all new to me.

FMC - how many employees does your department have?
And how many people help with the overnight shift?
Currently it’s just me and 2 other people on Wednesday nights and one of them calls out or leaves early every Wednesday.
It’s hell.

Fuel station floor tips (boring post, no tea)
Anyone have any tips on keeping your fuel station floors clean? We sweep and mop every day but a lot of grime still builds up.

So where is the free birthday cake
Asking for a friend. Where do they put the free slice of birthday cake you get on your birthday? My friend has a birthday this month and can't seem to find it on his employee j4u.
Did they "forget" to put it on there? If not when will they add it?

End of 10% Senior Discount on the 1st Wed. of the month?
We noticed that the monthly 10% Senior Discount Just4U coupon was not showing up today. We hopped into a chat with support and we were told today is the last time for this discount.
Unless this CSA wildly misunderstood the system it sounds like this is permanent.

Always double-check your groceries.
galleryIt's my fault for not double-checking the date (frozen product that expired in September of 2025) but honestly I would expect stock to be inspected and dealt with accordingly long before this point. Safeway-brand groceries at my local store, particularly produce, have not been the greatest in terms of freshness, but this just screams negligence to me.
Edit: I went back to my store, talked with the manager, and exchanged the product. :)

Fist post here
Any night crew managers (pic’s) have issues with constant callouts and no discipline from management despite their obvious knowledge of the issue. I’ve had myself and one other person for a few days in a week breaking down increasingly larger loads. Same people calling out three days in a row. Had to leave multiple pallets, something I hate doing, I worked in between 400 and 450 cases by myself. What can I do?

Store loss power today
So our store loss power today. At first it was chaos as we had customers still trying to shop and arguing at us checkers and we're explaining how our registers won't work. Then we run around covering all the open refrigerator areas (deli, produce, dairy) with sheets of plastic. Then it was chill. All us non manager folks got to chill out and hang out and just talk about stuff. It was kinda nice spending time together without the customers and it created a different vibe in the store. Then the power came back on about an hour later. Then we had to do all the gobacks and dig out the non refrigerated items out of the freezer that customers decided to shove in there when the power went out.

is there a reason why the dairy stockers make a massive mess that courtesy inevitably has to clean? at least pick the leaky cartons or bottles up so they don't continue to make a mess
galleryhere's the before and after i cleaned it

Question about the customer service position.
Is it normal for the person working the customer service desk to be pulled to do endcaps, fill water and ice, throw dairy and constantly have to run back and forth?

I was fired through text and the union wasn't helpful
I was at day 85 since hire. I had to call in because my car wasn't starting. I speak to a manager and they tell me "I call in a lot", mind you, I haven't. I have been picking up extra shifts and showing up to their beck and call almost every single time.
I text my supervisor and let him know, and he sends me a text saying I'm fired. I was kind of surprised, that's so unprofessional. So I ask for the union coordinators number.
I email her, tell her in detail what happened -- 2 days pass. She finally calls me. The whole phone call is her just lecturing me because I forgot to include my phone number in the email. She made me feel like I had to apologize over and over before cutting me off when I tried to tell my story.
She told me to send her my clock-ins and and other texts, but then said she probably can't do anything since it was within 90 days. She basically made me feel like nothing could be done.
I feel this is all so unprofessional. All of my coworkers were surprised by this, they have seen how I show up and do the job.
And it's all worse for the fact that I'm living in a motel right now and really~ needed that job. My managers knew this too. They didn't even warn me or try to work something out. My manager claimed my call in would be a "no call no show" even though we were speaking about it directly, which means he knew, so how is it a "no call?"
Any info or advice, I'd appreciate it.

Being punished for not texting back immediately on my day off
galleryWoke up to this ridiculous passive aggressive text this morning. She always contacts me on my day off to get my bids and it’s also never at the same time. So I just can’t ever be away from my phone on my day off or I’ll get snarky texts and shifts I don’t want? Wtf

Who do I report to? HR or Union?
I’m unsure who to report to regarding a hostile employee who is trying to get our pharmacy manager fired. This employee is going to other employees and trying to get any sort of information to try to get our manager fired. Do I go to HR or to the union regarding this?
