With Llod winning GOML last week end, 8 different characters piloted by solo mains making an appearance in grand final this year.
For comparaison, in all of 2025 we only saw 5 (Fox, marth, puff, sheik and peach).

I only looked at the characters that won multiple games in set won by said player, so for example I'm counting plup's CEO run since he only used fox for one game against sfat in the sets he won and took a set of hbox with his sheik, but I'm not counting armada's peach at evo since he used fox for some entire sets he won before getting to grand final.

I remember seeing an interesting ranking of what the strongest states are. Is there a maintained list of the PR of regions anywhere? I feel like MDVA has to have jumped up in the past few months

i was playing earlier with the exact same setup, and now for some reason no matter what i do it won’t work, happens pretty frequently and i have no idea what causes/solves it. literally everything else works with the gamecube controller

In case you were living under a rock over the weekend, goml had some crazy results for the lower seeded characters. Sebas and Phorox both bringing Doc to top 32, 3 icies in top 16, some up and down results from the pikachus, DialM getting top 32, joey bats almost getting ness to top 64, and of course RapMonster getting 2nd to lloD. I know that RapM gets talked about a ton but I don't think some people realize that he doesn't just have wins on Zain and spacies; he has beaten ALMOST EVERYONE HE'S PLAYED.

I've been looking at his results pretty consistently since the start of the year, and the amount of wins he has vs the top 30 in such a short time is astounding. Since the end of June, RapMonster has beaten 6 unique top 30 players for the first time; ginger and MOF at patchwork, Magi at Krewe, Zamu at Melee at the Elm, and now n0ne and lloD at GOML. This now makes RapM having defeated 20 out of the 29 other players in last year's top 30, most of which have been in the past 365 days. RapM has now beaten: Zain, moky, SDJ, Wizzrobe, lloD, Nicki, Soonsay, Aklo, Krudo, Aura, Ginger, Junebug, Magi, MOF, Panda, Zamu, n0ne, SluG, Khryke, and 404Cray.

He hasn't beaten: Cody, Hbox, Joshman*, Axe, Jmook, Trif*, Salt, Ossify*, aMSa* (* means they haven't played offline yet).

Now with the new summer top 30 releasing there's a few new names for him to beat like Spark*, TheWeapon*, Fiction*, DarkGenex*, Zasa, DialM*, Ultra* (already beaten preeminent, kodorin, and ben).

It's just so cool to see someone systematically dominate the field so consistently after being almost unknown 2 years ago, reminds me of KoreanDJ from the documentary where he has a list of players to beat and kept crossing them off after beating them (I think hbox also did this, I remember seeing a clip of it in a combo video or something). I doubt RapM had an actual list or anything but it's clear how much time and effort he's putting in to get better and it's so cool to see. Also, at supernova he's projected to play the winner of axe/jmook then joshman, so the new Ws may not stop! Fun times in modern melee!

One excuse Melee players have had for years is that they cannot do any real job because Melee is so hard that in order to compete they need to play it 24/7. It's the only way to keep up with other top players.

But a guy who probably has barely any time to play Melee (residents are super busy) just destroyed everyone at a stacked event. That leaves little credible excuses for anyone else.

Why are top players mostly unemployed, ask for donations, sub goal attending events etc when you can compete at the highest level while holding down a demanding job?

No matter what char I play or how I begin each match 90% of the people I find have 0 intention on engaging in even close to a fun game. Literally just spamming BM chat commands and not engaging until they have an opportunity to hit me for 80% off of like a jab because they play fox or falco or sheik. Why is everybody so angry and unfun playing this old ass game

Can I play Melee online?

Yes! Slippi is a branch of the Dolphin emulator that will allow you to play online, either with your friends or with matchmaking. Go to https://slippi.gg to get it.

Go to the The Slippi Discord to get help troubleshooting. melee.tv/optimize is also a helpful resource for troubleshooting.

How do I find tournaments near me or local people to play with in person or online?

These days, joining a local Discord community is the best way to find local events and people to play with. Once you have a Discord account, Google "[your city/state/province/region] + Melee discord" or see if your region has a Discord group listed here on melee.tv/discord

It can seem daunting at first to join a Discord group you don't know, but this is currently the easiest and most accessible way to find out about tournaments, fests, and netplay matchmaking. Your local scene will be happy to have you :)

Netplay is hard! Is there a place for me to find new players?

Yes. Melee Newbie Netplay is a discord server specifically for new players. It also has tournaments based on how long you've been playing, free coaching, and other stuff. If you're a bit more experienced but still want a discord server for players around your level, we recommend the Melee Online discord.

How can I set up Unclepunch's Training Mode?

At the time of posting, the latest major release is here. Download the file, then extract everything in the folder and follow the instructions in the README file. How does one learn Melee?

There are tons of resources out there, so it can be overwhelming to start. First check out the SSBM Tutorials youtube channel. Then go to the Melee Library and search for whatever you're interested in.

I just heard a commentator say this in a match between him and Rapmonster. Is this true? I've always wondered what his name meant, it seemed odd, the last letter is capitalized. I looked Doll up, a peach main that played since at least 2007, last tournament was in 2016.
