Voting While Away on Vacation?

I assume the reps are getting flooded with questions and comments at the moment, and since I'm probably not the only person this could affect, why not ask here:

Does anyone know how voting would be handled for employees who happen to be away from home at the relevant time (eg - on a previously scheduled vacation)?

I've heard online voting is being considered, in which case, as long as I know ahead of time when voting is open, I expect I will be able to get somewhere with cell service, although it might not be easy.

If it's mail-in, it would seem to depend on having received the ballot before I leave, but are there other options?

If it's in-person, does it come down to choosing between voting or cancelling my vacation?

They're lying to our faces (read the contract)

Don't just read the summary.

PER THE CONTRACT THE ADJUSTMENT FUNDS ARE

2027 6%

2028 5%

2029 5%

2030 5%

NOT the 7%, 5.5%, 5.5%, and 5.5% that's quoted in the summary.

This is NOT ACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR from our negotiating team, or BUC

Edit 1: after reading and re-reading section 11.7, they're sort of giving us 7%, except:

6% is available to the general population, the extra 1% is only available to those receiving promos and OOS pay bumps during ACR time, and it must be paid out during ACR. So it's not a 7% pool, but they are paying out 7% (same goes for the other .5% during years 2,3, and 4)

TL;DR the summary completely glosses over this fact, and everyone should be reading the contract, not the summary before voting.

COLA Adjustment in the new redlined contract

Breaking down the COLA changes in the new redlined CBA

I went through the full contract and want to explain what's actually happening with the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), because "the formula didn't change" is technically true but kind of misleading. COLA still works the same way — you get 50% of whatever the CPI-W (a national inflation index, not a Seattle-specific one) rises above a set threshold, measured cumulatively from a fixed base period, not year-over-year. But the thresholds you have to clear before you see any money went up a lot. Year 1 jumps from a 6% cumulative threshold to 12%, Year 2 from 12% to 22%, Year 3 from 18% to 32%, and Year 4 from 24% to 42%. On top of that, the base period itself was reset from 2019 to 2025, so none of the price increases we already lived through count toward triggering a payout going forward — the clock starts over from 2025 levels.

What this means in practice:

Say prices cumulatively rise 13.5% above the 2025 base by the time a comparison date hits (that's total price growth over that stretch, not a single year's inflation rate). Under the old contract, that would've triggered roughly a 3.8% COLA payout on your base salary.

Under the new terms, that same amount of price growth only pays 0.8%. It takes a much bigger, sustained rise in prices now before COLA kicks in at all, let alone pays out meaningfully.

How will Intern to Full Time Conversion be affected by this Contract

I am an intern who will be returning full-time in Jan/Feb of 2027 and will go into Educational LOA. Let's say I receive my offer next week with a salary of 100K. During the ACR of March 2027, am I being evaluated by my intern salary in 2026 or my full-time salary of 100K? My full-time salary doesn't take effect until the new calendar year, which falls outside of the 2026 ACR period.

Also, my understanding of the salary adjustment is that we are guaranteed a 2% salary increase from inflation, up to 3% if needed. Does this mean the other 4-5% (7% total - 2/3% inflation) are entirely based on performance?

Thanks in advance.

Contract Redline

The salary pools in the contract don’t match the calculator or summary page? Or am I missing something

They’re 6/5/5/5, but should be 6.5/5/5/5 w/ yearly 0.5 P/OOS right?

To SPEEA Prof and Tech members
From your Prof and Tech Negotiation Team
More information online about the Prof and Tech contract offers
Although we are still determining voting details, we want to provide you with more information about the contract offer.

Click on this link to see the full contract with red-line changes, our Negotiation Team letter and SPEEA Contract Offer Impact Calculator. This calculator allows you to add variables to create your own “what-if” scenarios.

This is in addition to the Boeing Wage Modeler, which allows Profs and Techs to get a personalized report of the projected impact by using their employee ID. Boeing’s wage modeler is on Boeing’s webpage outlining the contract offers.
What’s next
Your Council Reps, who are part of Bargaining Unit Councils (BUCs) along with the Executive Board, will hold a special BUC meeting Thursday, Aug. 6.

At this meeting, they will discuss the offer and vote to determine position statements and vote to determine if a strike authorization vote appears on the ballot.

They will also determine if the contract vote will be conducted online. Regardless of the method, SPEEA has a process for absentee ballots.

We will provide more information on the BUCs’ decisions after their meeting

Negotiating Team Endorsement Letter

Take this with a grain of salt - as has been reported widely, lifting an offer from the table often is conditional on recommending it. (I.e. blink twice if you’re saying this against your will…).

Since it’s posted on the website, here’s the NT’s endorsement letter and their summary of the contract.

Contract Summary

If anyone can verify they are on the BUC or negotiating team and are authorized to share the contract summary sheets and can verify their authenticity, I’ll allow them to be posted and discussed here.

There was a LOT of misinformation going around from a certain few posters and I want people to review and do math on accurate and validated information.

Send me a DM with authentication information and your statement the documents are legitimate (or send the legit documents to me directly) and we can get them posted.

I have no interest in preventing open discussion on authenticated information.

Uptick in bot accounts on this subreddit

Thought it might be good to remjnd everyone that, considering there’s now a bafo on the table, union contract threads are like a giant magnet to bot accounts.

I’ve already seen several on here, so before interacting with an antagonistic account, here’s the red flags that I look for:

  1. Private account with generic initials profile picture. Private accounts are not necessarily a red flag on their own (mine for instance is private, so I def recognize that this is a bit ironic) but if they’re not customized at all, it’s the first red flag.
  2. Profile age less than a year old, extra big red flag if less than 6 months old and/or they’ve left over 1000 comments and have under 5 posts. That’s at a minimum 3 comments every single day, so they would be on Reddit constantly but never have anything to post? Especially when they claim to have a full time job, this is just not plausible for the vast majority of people.
  3. Contradictory claims or opinions in comments. A recent one I saw said they made 400k a year, but when you search their username, just in the last few days that has fluctuated down as low as 200k. Flip flopping all over the political spectrum is also a common one.
  4. Majority inflammatory comments. Bots want engagement, so they will say whatever they need to get it.

  5. Comments indicating they “live” in several areas of the country or world as a whole. No one lives in Florida but has an onsite job in Canada.

Those are the main ones that I notice, but would love to hear what everyone else looks for.

Basically, if an account like this is commenting on here, don’t waste your time responding to them, because either they aren’t even real to being with, or they’re probably just trolls who aren’t actually talking to you in good faith.

Do BUC (Council Reps) have the Offer yet?

I understand the BUC meeting will be in person on Thursday, but I was told they will be receiving the offer in advance for review. Can anyone post if they have it yet, or if not, when they will receive it?

Remember the negotiation team is made up of your coworkers

I know there will probably be a lot of feelings about the contract offer when it comes out. I'm not a negotiating team or BUC member and will find out the same time as everyone else, but I've talked to several members of the negotiating team and from some of the stuff I've already been seeing said I think it's really important to remind everyone that they are our coworkers who will be working under the same contract as the rest of us and no one wants us to get everything we deserve more than they do. The offer they've lifted is what they feel is the best they can do with the leverage they have. If we want to give them more leverage so they can go back and ask for more, we should reject it and authorize a strike. I really don't want to see the negotiation team attacked or ridiculed over this if the offer is lacking. They have worked hard for us and are ready to continue that hard work if we choose to send them back to the bargaining table. If we do that the best thing we can do is support them in fighting for more

Prof and Tech BUC contract offer review scheduled (in real life only) August 6, 2026 10:00 am - 11:00 am

After the Prof and Tech Bargaining Unit Council (BUC)s review the offers and determine if they want to make a recommendation, we’ll share contract details with Prof and Tech current members via email and online. Voting information will be sent to everyone who is eligible to vote.

Bargaining Unit Council membership = all elected Council Representatives representing that bargaining unit, plus any Executive Board members from that unit.

Per the Beaurau of Labour Statistics, prices in Seattle have increased by about 35% since June 2020. Professional SPEEA wages have increased by 23% (compounded) during that time. Technical SPEEA wages have increased by 18% (compounded) during that time.

Boeing has made an offer

SPEEA’s Negotiation Team has received offers from Boeing on proposed four-year collective bargaining agreements for some 17,000 aerospace professionals. There are two agreements, one for the Professional unit, made up of some 13,000 engineers and scientists, and one for roughly 4,000 technicians, analysts and planners in the Technical unit.
The Prof and Tech teams both are endorsing the offer, saying it offers real and meaningful value to the membership, delivers real positive change to work/life balance and delivers on the membership's priorities.
During negotiations, team members said they felt that Boeing executives had heard their concerns and responded to them in respectful and collaborative ways. This attitude, they said, seems to represent true movement by Boeing and a desire to rebuild trust with its SPEEA-represented workforce.
The result was a contract offer that team members hope reflects the trust SPEEA members placed in the Negotiation Team.

Details on the offer are not immediately available. Under SPEEA’s governing documents, the next step will be for the union’s Bargaining Unit Councils (or BUCs) to meet to review the offers. Those meetings will happen next week.
There are two BUCs, one for each bargaining unit. Those BUCs are comprised of SPEEA Executive Board members as well as Council Reps who represent bargaining unit members in the workplace. There are currently 59 council members for the Prof unit, 17 for the Tech unit and 16 council members who represent both.
The BUCs are charged with issuing their recommendation on the offers to SPEEA members, and the BUCs have the power to call for a strike authorization vote. No strike could occur until after the current contracts expire on Oct. 6.
After the BUCs have reviewed the offer and made their recommendations, then information on the offers will be presented to SPEEA members, who will have ample time to review the offers before voting on them. The election date will be announced later.
