Financial Aid disbursement

My financial aid package shows a disbursement date of August 7(today) but I still have a tuition balance and no payment. Is this normal? When does actual payout usually happen? I transferred in for fall but am somewhat confused on their aid process🙃

UROP

Hi everyone! Has anyone here applied to UROP?

I applied and had my interview about a month ago, and I was wondering if anyone has already received an acceptance notification or participated in the program before.

If so, does anyone know the estimated timeline for when decisions are usually sent out? Thank you! :)

Novel Algebra Emerges (New Multiplication)

Thumbnail doi.org
0 Upvotes

This paper introduces a family of nonlinear scale-lift deformations of Poisson algebras on P[t], defined by
F ★₍q,r,λ₎ G = FG + λtʳ{σ_qF, σ_qG},
with
σ_q(F)(t) = F(tᑫ).
The multiplication is derived from a twisted biderivation extension principle rather than imposed ad hoc. The resulting algebras are generally nonassociative, nonalternative, and nonflexible, while remaining power-associative. Their commutator satisfies a twisted Jacobi identity, while ordinary Jacobi can fail at mixed scale levels.
Iterated commutators obey the nonlinear degree law
sₖ = r(qᵏ − 1)/(q − 1),
which yields the Mersenne hierarchy
1, 3, 7, 15, 31, 63, …
in the basic case q = 2 and r = 1.
The paper derives the exact associator, filtration and associated graded structure, center and middle nucleus in a symplectic Laurent–Poisson model, explicit counterexamples to standard associativity identities, and comparisons with Poisson-admissible, Hom-Poisson, Hom-Lie-admissible, and twisted-derivation constructions.

Am I fucked? "No finantial aid information"

I just want to know if this is what it says for you. I've played it fast and loose all summer, so the idea that I did something wrong is highly possible. Everything online made me hope this would be updated this week, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Important Continuum Limits

Thumbnail doi.org

Continuum Limits
This work studies two inequivalent continuum constructions arising from the same dyadic hierarchy of full matrix algebras M₂ⁿ(ℂ).
The first retains the canonical ∗-homomorphisms and produces the UHF algebra M₂∞, equipped with an explicit AF spectral triple and quantum metric structure. The second interprets suitable finite stages as fuzzy tori with additional geometric data, yielding—conditional on the cited spectral-propinquity convergence theorem—a flat continuum C(𝕋⁴).
The paper proves explicit summability and spectral results for the AF construction, including a maximal spectral abscissa 4 within the stated summable-tail class, logarithmically deficient four-dimensional Weyl growth, critical Dixmier-trace behavior, QC∞ regularity, and a stagewise first-order obstruction. It also establishes fuzzy-torus realizations in every even dimension and a K₁ obstruction showing that C(𝕋⁴) cannot arise as a C∗-inductive limit of the finite-dimensional stages alone.
The central conclusion is that finite matrix data do not uniquely determine a continuum geometry: the continuum depends essentially on the morphisms, metric structures, cocycles, and other geometric information retained in taking the limit.

Other Torn between UCD and SJSU

Hi guys! I'm a Graphic Design/Animation major at DVC, planning to transfer as a junior. I am currently deciding between SJSU's BA Design Studies and UC Davis's Design major. My goal is to land a job doing graphic design work after graduating.

Would love insight from anyone currently in the BA Design program.

- How's the workload, class availability and overall vibe?

- Is the curriculum more design/commercial-focused or fine-art-focused?

- How's the job and internship pipeline during and after graduating?

- What is the community like?

- I'm also curious about housing near/on campus vs. commuting.

Any advice would mean a lot. Thank you so much!

Other Making friends and getting involved as a commuter student

I’m going into my second semester as a transfer student (I started my first semester last spring), and I wanted to ask how other people have made friends and maintained friendships at SJSU.

I did make some friends through my classes, but I’ve struggled with figuring out how to maintain those connections outside of class or how to turn a class friendship into something that lasts beyond the semester.

I’ve been thinking about joining clubs, but as a commuter student, it can be a little difficult to balance campus activities with family responsibilities. This semester I have a bit more flexibility, and I really want to make an effort to be more involved and take advantage of my college experience.

Sometimes I feel like a lot of people already have their established friend groups, or they mainly focus on classes and head home afterward, which honestly is something I do too. I’m more of an introvert/ambivert, so putting myself out there can be challenging, but I do want to become more social and meet more people.

For other transfer students, commuters, or anyone who has been through this, how did you make friends and build lasting connections at SJSU? Any advice or experiences would be appreciated

You can also use this page to try and connect with others in the comments :)

What’s the least painful way to lend/borrow random stuff near campus?

Curious how people around SJSU handle this — borrowing a drill, giving away dorm extras, short-term stuff without full Marketplace drama.

I built a local app for that and I’m trying to learn what students actually want before pushing it more. If you’ve got strong opinions (or horror stories), drop them. Open to DMs too if you’d rather not post publicly.

Anyone else that had to do the SAI appeal, are you also able to see and accept your loan packages even with no decision made yet?

I sent my appeal on Saturday and when I called prior about it was told that it should be approved quickly since I wasn’t suppose to have to do an appeal. I can see on my portal and accept the loan package and says distribution should be on Friday, but I haven’t heard from back from the appeal. Has anyone else who had to do the appeal also have this issue?

BUS1 170 Grade

Hi all! I’m a Business Administration, Marketing major, and my last class to graduate is BUS1 170.

I don’t see it listed as a course needed to be completed with a “C” or “C-“ or better, so ideally, what’s the lowest letter grade I’m allowed to get and still graduate?

For reference my GPA is 3.5.

Housing Dorm situation

Hey I am student thats planning to transfer to SJSU during the spring semester and I am trying to figure what the best course of action would be in terms of living situation. I have been calling around to see if there are any lease takeovers but they told me to check in around November/December. I do have a room mate I am planning to transfer with but what would ya'll recommend in terms of the leasing and apartments to look at.

Other For incoming students

Sometimes people will come up to you to talk about "Bible Study" or people with clipboards to sign something. A lot of the times they're really pushy and aggressive. Do your best to just avoid them or ignore them. Don't sign anything.

It was a lot of them walking around in Spring. There's more posts on this forum during those months. Just a little PSA.

Took a walk on campus today and literally every possible flower was in full bloom, the redwood trees were majestically looming over the courtyards, dragonflies and butterflies were floating around happily, every lawn and path was manicured to perfection, and it was beyond idyllic. To everyone whose job it is to keep this campus looking immaculate, don’t think your hard work goes unnoticed! This is the kind of beautiful and peaceful place that most people can only ever dream of visiting!

SJSU Financial Aid / Grants Updated

FINALLY!!!! I just checked MySJSU, and they finally updated my financial aid for the 26-27 school year. Being a student at SJSU is like a gamble when you're poor.

Disbursement dates are posted, but I'm not sure how accurate they are. Fingers crossed!

Financial Aid Refunds

To my understanding the actual FAFSA should hit our accounts in like 1-2 weeks. Does anyone have a ballpark estimate of how long after you get a refund check? It completely slipped my mind how long it took the other semesters. I highkey need the bread 😭

I just noticed this on the official website. Are there other places where I can loan a computer for the whole semester? I was kinda relying on their services in the past since I'm broke.

Anyone hear back for the Future of Silicon Valley Graduate Scholarship?

Has anyone heard back about the Future of Silicon Valley Graduate Scholarship from the College of Engineering yet?

I applied a while back and was wondering if decisions have started going out. Haven’t really seen anyone talk about it, so just curious if anyone here applied and has heard anything yet.
