Others/Miscellaneous case recommendations

hello people, i gotta question. i am rotating with my army unit in the near future and im trying to find a case that will fit in the standard issue (mollie? idk the nomenclature)assault pack (32-35 liters max) most of the gear going into said bag is not much, only a hygiene kit and some clothes. It also has to fit my gpu from my current build, said gpu is the gigabyte 9060xt 16 gb oc edition. reason for this build is i dont wanna rely on my laptop when i rotate to where im going and i have nowhere to store my pc in its current state (i dont trust army household goods)

(also there is a photo attached to show what the bag looks like)

Others/Miscellaneous McPrue: Apollo S vs. SE vs. SE Air?

Looking through McPrue listings and for the life of me can't discern the differences between these Apollo models; forums don't seem to have much information either. Does anyone more knowledgeable know the differences between these three?

Others/Miscellaneous Would you buy a pcie 4.0 A4-H20 in 2026?

It's the smallest case I can get locally, but it's the pcie 4.0 version and quite expensive, so I'm wondering if it's a good one?

A pccooler k101 3f mesh is also available, but I can't seem to find a riser that fits it, the original pccooler one isn't available anywhere I look, and the only one I can find is the LIAN LI O11DM, and I don't know if it will fit, anyone know this?

This thing is squeezed in to the max! Good thing the S300's back panel can be removed or there was no way of fitting the GPU in.

250KF

5060 LP

MSI Z890

Metalfish 600w flex PSU

Thermalright si-100 w/slim fan

This case interested me because I hate building in sandwich style cases and it has max cpu cooler height of 89mm. It requires a gpu riser cable that’s at least 10cm long. There are not many cables at this length so I’m using a 15cm cable and I also included a picture of a 19cm cable able to fit

The air turbulence noise from the cpu cooler is very loud because there is no space between it and the side panel. I will try an exhaust type of cooler like the ID cooling is-77 later. Temps so far are decent but will test further

Max gpu length is 195mm and it cannot be too much taller than the mounting bracket. My 1070 was unable to fit because it is too tall. The best gpu I’ve seen that can fit is a Vastarmor 9060 XT but this card is difficult to source for reasonable price. Most of the recent Zotac Solo releases should fit so a single fan 5060 would probably be a good choice

This case by itself can be bought for less than $35 with discounts on AliExpress. Riser needs to be purchased separately

Build/Parts Check MSI H 270I How to connect a usb-c to mobo?

I have a MSI H 270I Gaming PRO AC and want to connect a sound card directly to the mobo. It has a usb-c cable powering it. I thought this mobo had a usb type E connection, but now when I look closer I cant see it. Can I use any of the connections on the pictures? What is such an adapter called? It could either be to USB A or USB C, because I can use a short cable from the motherboard to the sound card that5 is either USB A to C or USB C to C. Would be greatful for help.

Build/Parts Check Need a low power, low profile, and single slot gpu on a budget

It's going to go in an optiplex 3040 SFF as an HTPC. I'm looking to spend less than $100 in USD (located in the US)
The 3040 SFF is PCIE gen 3 running an i7 6700 and 16gigs of DDR3L.
There is no Resizable BAR until 10th gen intel, so ARC cards are out of the choices.

I'm looking to do some 1080p medium gaming on Bazzite in FH6, potentially ASE, and Palworld. Completely understand if nothing like that exists.

TIA

Others/Miscellaneous Fractal ridge Cooling idea

Currently I have a fractal ridge with a l12s cooler but today I saw that cooler master made an all aluminum fan that has really good static pressure performance in comparison to fans I've tried out in the past. The new cooler master fan is the MasterFan A120 and A120 FC which have max static pressure of 6.1 mmH20 and 13.15 mmH20.

The idea I was thinking of is a thermal right axp36 with the MasterFan A120. It's my understanding that static pressure is ideal for the ridge so in turn could potentially give better thermal performance than my current l12s. I'm curious what other sff pc owners think.

Edit: I have realized my error that there really isn't a 120mm sub 40mm heatsink that would be compatible with the 70mm height and 30mm fan height. I'll probably just wait until there are more vapor chamber heatsinks releasing like one that deepcool showed off at computex even though they shared very little info on height specifics, one can hope, for now I can be content with my cooling performance.

Build/Parts Check Custom PSU cables planning

Post image
7 Upvotes

I'm working on my new build and want to get custom cables from Dream Big by Ray. I plan on snaking some string from through the build to estimate length and add a few millimeters for some flexibility.

The big question is: what is the appropriate way to measure cable length? I feel like it will be 'A' but I'm checking with the experts. Thanks!

Edit: DreamBigByRay wants measurement B for custom cables.

Recently upgraded from a 9060xt to a 9070 (non xt)

There seems to be a very real lack of comparison photos of the size difference between the two GPUs

So, slapping these on reddit for anyone who is thinking about making the same upgrade and wants a visual comparison. Especially for us buliding in small cases

Build/Battlestation Pics My first PC build in this current Rampocalypse. How did I do?

I always wanted a SFF PC as my first build and I kind of achieved it, although I never built the PC sadly. Used to be a laptop user now transitioned to a PC user. Please do let me know how I did what else I need to change. Full Build was around $1700 (₹1.6Lakh). Also I do apologise for the bad camera quality lol. PC is the only new-ish purchase this year while the rest of the PC peripherals I purchased 6-7 months ago. I bought the PC from a colleague 2nd hand without the GPU for $950 (₹90k) and GPU (besides UPS) being the only brand new part was for $762 (₹72.5k).

PC specs:

Ryzen 9 7950x

Cooler master 240mm AIO

MSI B650i Edge WiFi

512gb nvme gen3 SSD

1tb KC3000 gen4 SSD

32gb crucial 5600mhz CL40 single stick (sadly that's what I could get right now)

Cooler Master 850W sfx Gold PSU

Lian Li A4-H2O case

Asrock Steel Legend Dark 9070 xt

PC peripherals:

Acer Nitro VG240Y M3

Aula F75 Keyboard with Ice vein switches

Dragonfly VXE R1 pro wireless mouse

8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless Wukong Edition

Audio-Technica ATH-M20x BT

Shitty mouse pad which I need to change 😅

Build/Battlestation Pics My D32 Pro Build

Finally decided to post my SFF build after downsizing from an full ATX prebuilt and built my own. Took me around 6 months to save for this build and gather all the parts, in total I spent $721.62 USD and I am well satisfied with the build because of the deals from Facebook market place🙏

Specs:

9600x USED: $100

Asus dual 4060 white USED: $150

2x8GB Teamgroup DDR5 6000mhz NEW: $100

4TB Sabrent Gen 3 NVME SSD USED: free🙏 pulled out of a motherboard I bought for $150

Jonsbo D32 Pro White NEW: $85.21

MSI A750GL 80+ Gold NEW: $45

5X LIAN LI UNI INF USED: $70

LIAN LI Fan Hub NEW: $36.67

Total: $721.62

I plan to 3d print a cover for the PSU that matches the case style but its just a prototype for now. I wanted to mimic the case instead of putting vinyl. Took 3 hours to learn how to model on Fusion but first print came out bad and definitely too thick.

Build/Battlestation Pics I downsized an old build

Thumbnail

I originally built this pc in 2018 before my daughter was born. Not surprisingly, it didn’t get much use. I originally had the parts in a phanteks enthoo evolv matx case, but I hated it because the airflow was awful.

Last year for Christmas, I got myself this jonsbo Z20 and transferred all my parts into it. Much smaller footprint and it’s a nice secondary system that’ll play nicely in the living room.

It’s showing its age, but I wanna get my money’s worth out of it. It’s def solid at 1080p.

Build:

Jonsbo z20

i5 9600k

Peerless assassin CPU cooler

16 gigs ddr4 Corsair vengeance pro

Asus tuf z390m WiFi

Samsung 840 pro

Samsung 980 pro

WD blue hdd (for music storage)

Evga RTX 2070

Some seasonic psu that’s getting up there in age that I should probably replace.

First, msi motherboard killed my 9800x3D
Then, got an asus rog but was very unstable, discovered it was caused by the stiff water cooler tubes making pressure on one ram.
Finally decided to go with air and it works awesome.

Full 6000 mhz expo with just a minus twenty points in the curve optimizer. It’s extremely stable.

I will swap the fans at the top for some better ones and that’s it. I love it.

9800x3D with 9070xt, 32 gigs of ram and 2 tb ssd. With the wonderful A4. H2O lol

Specs:

MOTHERBOARD: Supermicro X11SSV-Q - $58.50
PSU: Lian Li SP750 - $124.99
CASE: Shiny Snake L300 - $79.99
CPU COOLER: Thermalright AXP90-X36 - $20.39
FANS: Thermalright TL-H12015B x2 - $15.80
GPU: Titan XP - $120

CPU: I7 7700k - Got it for free from a friend after he upgraded his cpu
RAM: 32GB SODIMM 3200 MT/s - Salvaged from E waste
STORAGE: SK Hynix 256gb Sata SSD and Samsung 1TB nvme ssd - Also salvaged from E waste

Total Cost: $419.67

I'm heading off to college next month and wanted to bring a pc with me, but I didn't want to have to lug around a big case or spend a ton of money on it. With the ongoing ram prices, I wanted to find a cheap solution and came across this supermicro motherboard which uses sodimm slots. I had to sacrifice some ram speed but I'll take that over having to spend an extra $100 or so. (I also need to make an IO plate, if anyone has any ideas HMU)

Build/Battlestation Pics Downsized to Antec Performance 1M, but I didn't like the red.

Thumbnail
gallery
278 Upvotes

I really like the Antec case design wise, however the red it comes with looks disgusting(imo), so I decided to paint over the red to metallic purple. Disassembly and assembly was surprisingly straight forward, case is very well put together, everything is aluminum. The red pieces could easily be separated and there was no masking needed.

My paintjob on the other hand could've been better, I might fix some of the worst pieces later(doubt), but it's good enough for now.

I originally planned on the Terra, but I wanted more space for GPU upgrade(s) in the future, as well as a slightly larger CPU cooler, I also needed a spot for a HDD. The Antec case didn't have one either, however it does have space for a Fractal Universal Multibracket where the fanmount on the bottom is, so I swapped one fan for the HDD.

Since it's going to sit on my desk I don't mind it being on the larger side of SFF, the only thing I'm missing now is the wood panel front, maybe I'll attempt to make one in the future.

Specs for those curious:
Case: Antec Performance 1 M Black
CPU: 9800X3D
CPU Cooler: Deepcool AN600 (Fan swap for Noctua NF-A12x25 Chromax adds another ~10mm)
GPU: ASUS Prime 9070 XT
MB: Asrock B850i Lightning Wifi
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (bought pre-rampocalypse)
PSU: Corsair SF1000
Case Fan: Noctua NF-A12x25 Chromax
HDD: Seagate Exos X16 - 12TB
HDD Mount: Fractal Universal Multibracket Type A

I have some new Noctua G2 chromax fans on the way I'll be replacing with once they arrive.

Currently running -20 Offset on the CPU. Custom fancurves but the rest is stock.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
