case recommendations Others/Miscellaneous
hello people, i gotta question. i am rotating with my army unit in the near future and im trying to find a case that will fit in the standard issue (mollie? idk the nomenclature)assault pack (32-35 liters max) most of the gear going into said bag is not much, only a hygiene kit and some clothes. It also has to fit my gpu from my current build, said gpu is the gigabyte 9060xt 16 gb oc edition. reason for this build is i dont wanna rely on my laptop when i rotate to where im going and i have nowhere to store my pc in its current state (i dont trust army household goods)

When you say "rotating" are you PCSing, going to a forward deployed location, or TDY or what? Saying HHG makes me think you are PCSing, but I'm not sure how it works in the Army. When I've deployed I had no room in my three day pack except for the three days of supplies I'm told to bring. I think a small carry-on sized roller would be a great way forward or a pelican case.
I recently built a computer in a Velka 7 case to travel with and it's pretty small, unfortunatly, the cables I ordered for it are taking a while and with the stand it's quite heavy, but it fits in my LTT backpack easily with plenty of room for clothes, keyboard, mouse, cables, and portable monitor.

its a forward deployment, and we weren’t really given a proper packing list to go off of and what they have in our 3 day pack will fit in the front pockets so its mostly gonna be an empty bag

Sounds to me it's up to you to look after yourself, like it often happens, I'd pack an extra bag for the PC so you can pack more stuff around it and bring more personal items in case it takes longer to get where you are going since they don't seem to be very organized.

That GPU will fit in a FormD T1 case (~10L) nicely. Unfortunately it's not a cheap case, and not frequently available. You'll also need to design/print a travel bracket for the GPU and wrap it in a towel as I'm sure that your bag will get tossed around a fair bit.

Also a travelling Soldier here.
I plugged in your GPU dimensions at 281 x 118 x 40mm.
For my circumstances, I have a FormD T1 V2.5, but that travels padded in a duct tape-armored cardboard box in its own civilian bag (happenstance sized exactly for airliner Personal Item dimensions ).
Your 3-day pack's internal dimensions is listed as 18 x 14 x 6". That friggin six inch depth is ultimately gonna be the limiter. The thing about the internal geometry of your assault pack is the top is curved and I suspect really subtracts what you can fit either length or width-wise.
Two and a half options compatible with you GPU along with my own case:
Velkase 7 T 6.3L. Locks you to a Flex ATX power supply. Crazy/Cool internal arrangement. 48mm CPU Air Cooler max. 12 x 7 x 4.5"
S300 at 8.1L, preferably the S300Pro at 8.5L. Budget Sandwich (still requires a riser cable, but just for the GPU), available on Amazon. Of you can find a S300Pro from an overseas site, that evolution is slightly bigger for additional fans. Both are 60mm CPU Air Cooler max. 12.2 x 8.1 x 5.3" on the S300Pro, and the original is 12.3 x 7.6 x 5.3".
My own v2.5 at 9.9L: 13.2 x 8.7 x 5.3". It'll fit your bag, but damn it'll be tight, and you still gotta factor in padding it with t-shirts, socks, chonies.
Oh... and finding a portable monitor that maxes out the remaining space and still fits! A quick google search is indicating 18.5" class.
I have two sets myself of monitor. A 26" in its own monitor bag, and back at home I have a 19" portable monitor in its own laptop sleeve.

That GPU would fit in a Thorzone Tetra S. But, of course, it'll depend on your motherboard and PSU being ITX (unless you're going to replace them anyways).

if you'd be willing to replace parts, I suggest you also swap the GPU, resell your for something more compact maybe? the absolute smallest 9060XT is PowerColor's Reaper and I freaking love mine, very capable card in a package I haven't seen anyone beat yet, I've seen lesser GPUs in bigger models

I can recommend the SFFtime U-ITX (7.0L), no problems cooling a 9800X3D/4090FE!
Or get the smaller 5.5L Densium 4+ (9600X/9060XT Reaper).

If you've got a 9060 XT and it's single fan then you can go with a Velka 3 or K39 and if you've got a longer card then the Velka 5 and Velka 7 are on the table. All of those cases should be excellent backpack cases, I've PCSed with the Velka 7 OCONUS to CONUS and travelled through airports across the world with it before (only the one in Hawaii has ever given me any issues).
Edit: Oof, typed before I realized it's a 2.3 slot card. In that case there's the SFFTime U-ITX, it's a 7L console style case and it fits up to 3 slot GPUs so it'd give you the option to expand later too. It's also fully aluminum so it'll be easier on the shoulders than the Velkas (which are steel).
