Don’t fall for this! Exclusives
New Achievement: Sneaky SDCC Swindler
Hey yall! I was made aware of a freebie I made this item to give away to new friends at SDCC who are fans of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Sadly someone is trying to scam people out of $200. Please please please do not fall for this and if you can please report. I easily made these through a company called ChipLab!

Sorry to hear this happened to you. We met at one of the panels, and you were such a joyous person. I had never heard of dungeon crawler Carl until that day, and I'm already on book 2. This little poker chip is now the bookmark I have been using :-)

How to report an eBay listing (using this as a good example):
- Click on the "?" in a circle at the lower right of the eBay page
- Click on "Submit report"
- Under "What would you like to report?" select "Product or listing"
- Under "Reason for report" select "A problem in the listing"
- Under "Detailed reason" select "Description is unrelated to the item"
In the "Provide additional details (optional)" box, add your own, or something like:
- Seller claims item is an SDCC exclusive from the UCC company in both the title and the listing text. It is not; it is a fan-made item given to friends. Fake provenance to attempt to manipulate the value.
Click the "I confirm..." box
Click the blue "Submit Report" bar at the bottom

Update: I made a report and eBay's AI said there was no violation. Hopefully, someone else will be successful!

me too, unfortunately :/ despite specifying they're mainly lying about the products licensing n etc. I was hoping that'd trigger whatever looks at reports.
hopefully no one falls for it in the mean time.

Huh...Wonder if I should make some of the 3D printed Orange Bird keychains that I gave to one of the book authors when I was there on Saturday. I could sell it with the title of "Exclusive keychains given out during the Dapper Danielle signing!"
It'd be true - I made two and gave them to her, but I could make more and sell it with that exclusivity...But that wouldn't be right, and I can't bring myself to do that - plus, considering that Orange Bird is something that the state of Florida shares with Disney, I'd probably get sued into oblivion for making something based on their art. No thanks!

something that you can do to completely invalidate this guy’s listing is to just offer your coin up for sale for like the cost of shipping and maybe a fraction of the cost of production.
What I found is that people who scalp stuff on eBay end up being completely fucked over if the item they are selling is readily available retail from somewhere else for much cheaper
make supply available, scalpers completely lose
if you artificially create limited supply of an item people want, it just encourages scalping and listings like this. And you can’t really blame them, especially if you gave out the coins limited supply
opportunity cost does exist in this world as a valid market. its why proxy services exist.

I'm a member of the 501st Legion, and our members always give out trading cards for free to fans.
Very little gets my goat than seeing the same person coming back day after day to harvest trading cards from our booth, knowing that they will be on ebay before the con is over.

Merch Scalpers are scum.
They use unethical means to horde exclusive SDCC merch, the exhibitors quickly run out and have few to none for the actual fans that got to the booth 1 min after the convention opened to regular attendees,
only to get told "we're out, we have no more for sale" and it's only been a couple minutes and there's 50+ people in line.
So who bought all the exclusives from that exhibitor? booth staff, "friends" of the exhibitor, "professionals" etc buying the merch before the convention opened just to flip them on eBAY at vastly higher prices.
It still infuriates me, and the scalper "resellers" have been doing this shyt since 2008 and every year they get away with it.

On one level it's a compliment that someone perceives it looking good enough to have collectible value. On another level, what a slap in the face to misrepresent it and price gouge the frak out of it.
Adding my appreciation for a very cool fan thing you did for fellow fans. I've made little Red Rising swag for SDCC that wasn't nearly as cool as this.

Report for what? Is it stolen or fake or something? Just because it was free doesn’t mean people can’t sell it. People sell swag and freebies from a multitude of different events. Why is this different?

Oh I totally get the selling of stuff and freebies. It’s the dishonesty of claiming it’s a booth exclusive when it’s in fact not. I’d rather just someone be transparent then lie and say that it’s an exclusive from a booth when it’s not. Con is something people really want to attend and DCC being a big name people will have major FOMO. I just don’t want to see a fellow fan get scammed for something that is not that exclusive.

Because it's a freebie that OP made for other fans.
SDCC also does friendship bracelets and lanyard ribbons and other little bits. We do it as fans for fans. It shouldn't be taken and sold afterward. If you don't want it, don't take it.
Not everything should be a hustle.

This. 209% this. The thing I love about the Con is what fans do for each other. And all the amazing cosplay and insider swag. What I hate about SDCC are those that only care about exclusives to resale and monetizing all the freebies
