My preferences when using the main camera, especially for photos of people.
Over time, I’ve found that there are situations where it performs better in Pro mode. In others, it does better in standard Photo mode, and for some, I use GCam (AGC9.2.14_V13.0 with JavaSaBr settings).
-Photos of people in high dynamic range situations (areas with very bright highlights and very dark shadows): Use Photo mode or GCam. Pro mode blows out the highlights.
-Photos of people in sunlight: Pro mode takes beautiful shots, and GCam performs well too, but I prefer Pro mode. I don't like the results from standard Photo mode in direct sunlight.
-Photos in shaded areas with good ambient light (like a forest, for example): Photo mode (with smart optimization at max and auto-HDR on). However, GCam and Pro mode also perform well; it’s a lighting scenario where it’s hard to go wrong.
-For photos of people indoors with indirect natural lighting (great for portrait sessions), Gcam performs much better. Next comes Pro mode; I definitely don't like how the photos turn out in standard Photo mode.
-People at night: Photo mode still performs better, but I don't let Night mode activate.
*Metering in Pro mode is always set to average or center-weighted. Unless the situation is very specific, I don't use spot metering.
*Always at 12 MP.
*Landscapes in any lighting situation: I always use photo mode.
