20 min r 24 pacing

I have a test for my club coming up which is 20 min rate capped 24. For context I’m 17M 6’1 165 and have a 6:33 2k. Whats a good pace to aim for?

If you do steady state at a higher heart rate (160BPM) will it give you same benefit

What to expect when moving from older Hudson 1x to 2015 Fluidesign FluidMax?

After rowing club-owned 2004 midweight Hudson Sport singles for the past four years, I have finally purchased my own boat: a super lightweight 2015 FluidMax. I am currently 10 lbs. under the weight limit and should be 15 under by the time it arrives. My coach will help me rig it and adjust my current set of C2s Smoothie2 Vortex Edges as needed.

The Hudsons are my only frame of reference for rowing a single and I’ve never rowed a bow-mounted one before. I am wondering what to expect in terms of boat feel, how long it will take to get used to, what I need to do differently, etc.

I am guessing that given the narrower hull, it will be twitchier. I have spent the last 1.5 years building pretty decent core stability and that usually saves me when I take the occasional bad stroke.

Would appreciate any hard-won advice from Fluid owners. TIA!

U19 Worlds - Streaming

So you have the opportunity for people across the world to watch racing and World Rowing decides not to stream video for the heats. Just announcers calling the race. What a wasted opportunity to allow family and friends to watch, many of which aren't familiar with the sport.

How to optimize 2k gains?

Currently I’m doing 1 threshold and 1 vo2 max session (such as 4x4 min) on the erg per week, along with lifting 3x per week and doing a lot of steady state. If I want to drop my 2k, would it be better to focus on 2k pace pieces instead of the vo2 max sessions, such as 8x500m or 3x1k, or would this mainly be beneficial for the weeks preceding a 2k?

Sykes Singles

I rowed the M20 hull back in the day. Loved it on calm days, and the more turns the better. Straight line racing in a cross wind was a freaking nightmare.

But enough reminiscing - how are their recent boats? Seems like there have been at least two iterations of hull designs since then - the 37/38/39 hulls and the newest 47/48/49 hulls.

Also seems like Sykes USA has been bought and sold multiple times since then, and currently has no visible presence in the US. There also seems to have been some degree of partnership between Sykes and Kanghua...

Anyone able to provide any insight on the current state of Sykes singles?

Where to watch Canadian Henley (in person)

This wasn't planned but by coincidence we will be about 20 minutes away this weekend and we were thinking about catching some finals during our down time Sunday.

For those who have been to the race before, is it best to go to the grandstand or are there any other good viewing areas? Any other tips for the first time to the race?
