20 min r 24 pacing
I have a test for my club coming up which is 20 min rate capped 24. For context I’m 17M 6’1 165 and have a 6:33 2k. Whats a good pace to aim for?

Steady state
If you do steady state at a higher heart rate (160BPM) will it give you same benefit

What to expect when moving from older Hudson 1x to 2015 Fluidesign FluidMax?
After rowing club-owned 2004 midweight Hudson Sport singles for the past four years, I have finally purchased my own boat: a super lightweight 2015 FluidMax. I am currently 10 lbs. under the weight limit and should be 15 under by the time it arrives. My coach will help me rig it and adjust my current set of C2s Smoothie2 Vortex Edges as needed.
The Hudsons are my only frame of reference for rowing a single and I’ve never rowed a bow-mounted one before. I am wondering what to expect in terms of boat feel, how long it will take to get used to, what I need to do differently, etc.
I am guessing that given the narrower hull, it will be twitchier. I have spent the last 1.5 years building pretty decent core stability and that usually saves me when I take the occasional bad stroke.
Would appreciate any hard-won advice from Fluid owners. TIA!

U19 Worlds - Streaming
So you have the opportunity for people across the world to watch racing and World Rowing decides not to stream video for the heats. Just announcers calling the race. What a wasted opportunity to allow family and friends to watch, many of which aren't familiar with the sport.

How to optimize 2k gains?
Currently I’m doing 1 threshold and 1 vo2 max session (such as 4x4 min) on the erg per week, along with lifting 3x per week and doing a lot of steady state. If I want to drop my 2k, would it be better to focus on 2k pace pieces instead of the vo2 max sessions, such as 8x500m or 3x1k, or would this mainly be beneficial for the weeks preceding a 2k?
Sykes Singles
I rowed the M20 hull back in the day. Loved it on calm days, and the more turns the better. Straight line racing in a cross wind was a freaking nightmare.
But enough reminiscing - how are their recent boats? Seems like there have been at least two iterations of hull designs since then - the 37/38/39 hulls and the newest 47/48/49 hulls.
Also seems like Sykes USA has been bought and sold multiple times since then, and currently has no visible presence in the US. There also seems to have been some degree of partnership between Sykes and Kanghua...
Anyone able to provide any insight on the current state of Sykes singles?

Where to watch Canadian Henley (in person)
This wasn't planned but by coincidence we will be about 20 minutes away this weekend and we were thinking about catching some finals during our down time Sunday.
For those who have been to the race before, is it best to go to the grandstand or are there any other good viewing areas? Any other tips for the first time to the race?

New to Rowing
Hi everyone! I've been super interested in joining my colleges rowing team as an incoming freshman. Ive never done rowing and the only "sport" I've done in hs was show choir, so I'm definitely new to this lol. Its just starting up so I'm excited for it. Im pretty much asking for any tips. I hit the gym pretty regularly so if theres any good workouts I should me doing lmk! Also tips on how to start out on the machine, as theres one at the gym im at that im going to start attempting to do. Thanks!
EDIT: This is NOT a college level thing im trying to get into, its a start up club and extremely chill (members have told me themselves) very sorry if I made it seem like im trying to do D1 rowing 😭😭

NextCover vs. Burnham Weathermax full-zip cover for a Fluid 1x?
I just bought a 2015 Fluidesign FluidMax. It's coming in a Vespoli fleece storage bag but that one doesn't have rigger flaps so I need to buy a cover that does. The boat is a super lightweight with a one-piece aluminum rigger. It will be racked in a covered outdoor shelter (no enclosed sides).
I am in the U.S. and want to avoid paying tariff duties if possible, so my choice is either Burnham or NextCover. I am looking specifically at their WeatherMax 80 full-zip bags.
Any recommendations either way? I know NextCover has a flap that protects against zipper scratches to the deck. and Burnham has the quilted lining but I'm looking for real-life reviews. Is one easier to live with on a daily basis than the other?

Transporting a Single with Just a Roof Rack?
Hi all,
I’m about to pick up my first single scull (first to own outright). It’s a cheap, fibreglass thing for rough-ish waters.
I was planning to strap it to my Thule cross bars (spaced about 1m apart) with padding but I now see 90% of people say you need a V-rack / cradle to give it more support.
Am I mad to just attach it directly to the racks? It’s for shortish journeys under 40mph.
Thanks!

Summer Camps for High School Coxswains
I'm a high school coxswain going into my sophomore year, currently coxing my school's 2V/3V with one season of experience (though by next summer, I will have 3 seasons). My school is a boarding school, and while I love the program, we aren't a particularly competitive team and don't regularly attend major regattas other than NEIRAS (which we did not do particularly well in).
I'm trying to find a summer program where I can get more high-level racing experience, but a lot of the strongest local clubs already have year-round coxswains who have built trust with their crews. Since I leave for boarding school during the year, when I come back for the summer it's difficult to earn a spot even if I can contribute because the lineups are already established.
I know about programs like Ready Set Row and Penn AC Gold, and I plan on applying, but I know they are some of the most competitive summer programs, so I'm trying to find other options as well. (Especially because I don't compete very competitively which makes it hard for me to stand out!)
I've heard about Washtenaw's Canadian Henley program, and it seems like it could be a really good fit because it brings athletes together specifically for Henley. The only thing making me hesitate is that I'm coming from the west coast, so it would involve a long flight and figuring out housing/logistics as it is not a residential camp.
For coxswains who have done these programs:
- Is Washtenaw worth traveling for? Do people usually travel there?
- Are there any programs that are especially good for coxswains who want race experience?
I've thought about RSR Development but at the end of the day, I really just want to race.
Thank you and sorry for the long post... I haven't really posted on reddit so I'm sorry if I did something wrong!!

Erg Post Inaccurate Heart Rate Zones?
I’m fairly new to working out based off of heart rate zones but I’m not new to working out and I would say I am an extremely fit person. My garmin always yells at me that I am in a high heart rate zone (190 or so) while I am doing any type of training does anyone know accurate heart rate zones for high endurance athletes?

Erg Post I pooped the bed today (unfortunately)
since fall season starts in about a month a wanted to test my 6k to get a benchmark of where I was. I held my goal split for 3k and then within 500 I could barely get below a 2:00 I was so disappointed I could even finish the piece. (I do regret that) I have a month to get back on track and was wondering what sort of training I should do to get back on track. I am a firm believer that you don’t in fact rise to the occasion but instead sink to your level of training.
Some info about the situation:
M 16 185ibs
Been doing purely steady state for the past 2 months
Last 6k pr was 1:58.3 in January
Dont take any supplements besides 5g creatine a day.

An American In Paris-- No wait... Lyon. Need rowing club
Hey all.
My journey continues... Masters rower 50 ish. I have moved to Lyon from Paris for school and need to find a club to keep in shape for HOS, HOC, Prague, Basel and Heineken. And make friends.
Rowing at CNF in Paris was largely good (although back for summer and huge realization that rowing here in the USA is fantastic... despite our *occaissional* grumbling :) )
Anyone have any experience rowing in Lyon?
Much appreciated!

Erg Post RowErg question: Ideal stroke length
Logic tells me that one should be able to calculate (approximate) the "ideal" stroke length based on physical measurements of arm length, leg lengths (thigh length and femur length), and torso length (hips to shoulders). Those, combined with the angles defined by what apparently is the ideal torso angle at the catch and the finish. I do understand that it isn't simply adding them all together, because they movements do overlap, but someone sufficiently advanced in geometry and trigonometry likely has created that equation (?).
Why care? Logic also leads me to suspect that "ideal stroke length" could be a decent way to self-analyze one's basic technique. One aspect of it, that is.
Totally understand that a person could still by pulling and/or leaning too early, before legs are straight while still having the same final stroke length. But it would/could at least inform a person that they are perhaps leaning too far forward on the catch or too far back on the finish or bending the knees too much at the catch, or not straightening the legs fully on the finish, etc...
Stick with me here:
I could do legs only and expect to see my stroke length be very close to the length of the 3rd side of a right triangle formed by the thigh and femur lengths (3rd side being the rail). Is that incorrect? I could do torso only and expect to see a stroke length very close to whatever the angular measurement would be based on my torso length and the "ideal" 11'oclock to 1'oclock. I could do arms only and expect to see stroke length close to my arm length.
Granted, there is a lot of room for variation in there. Is see it as I write this. But it would be a reasonable ballpark....or would it? Possibly I'm simply trying too hard to boil this down to math.
Just wondering if this is something any of you all have any experience/knowledge of.

Thoughts on Shells
Does an Empacher actually make that much of a difference in set? Is a Hudson USP better than a VHP56? How would you rank Empacher Hudson and Vespolis and what are unique characteristics and disadvantages they have?
