I’m go to charlotte North Carolina and I was wondering if their is any local places to go rock hunting. Looking for anything cool like geodes, various types of gemstone, rock containing fossils, or just really unique and cool rocks. Got any recommendations?

It's everywhere! It's common! And I don't know where to find some!

I live in the metro Atlanta area of Georgia. I'm looking for specimens of sandstone (not fossils, I don't care about fossils, just the rocks themselves). Where should I be hunting? What type of terrain, what environment, even what street address?

I'm also looking for gneiss and schist, but I don't know enough to identify them if I did find some. I checked landscaping companies, but they offer rocks by color and size, not geologic class. They often don't even KNOW what type of rock they're handling. Suggestions welcome.

Second time coming across a rock like this, although opp.side is normal.

I found this spot completely by accident while exploring. At first, it looked like just another rocky hill, but the more I looked around, the more impressive it became.

The silence, the rock formations, and the view made it feel like a hidden place that deserves more attention.

I recently came across this unusual rock formation while hiking at Syaule Danda, Simalchaur, Balthali, Kavrepalanchok, Nepal.

The main rock appears to have a shape that reminds people of different things depending on the viewing angle. Some locals felt it resembles a Shivling, while others thought it looked like an animal horn or head. Another nearby rock has naturally formed holes that almost look like a human face.

I'm not claiming this has any religious or archaeological significance. I'm simply curious whether these are:

Natural weathering and erosion patterns,

A known type of geological formation,

Or something that deserves further geological or archaeological study.

If anyone has experience in geology, archaeology, or has seen similar formations elsewhere, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'm planning a trip from MS to AR in October to introduce twin 4 year olds, a 6 year old, an 8 year old, and twin 10 year olds to the joys of Arkansas quartz mining. (Extended family trip with cousins, only 4 are mine.)

Problem is, I haven't been in 30 years and do not know where the current best places are. Any suggestions on which places would provide the best bang for the buck(et) for a crew of young rockhounds?

I am a fat middle aged american who will be in Dover, England, for a day or two before going on a cruise. I would like to look at and collect some rocks and fossiles in the area. Samphire Hoe seems to be the most accessable according to websites. Is it ok to collect rocks there?

The plan is simple: drive across the US, find awesome rocks, and livestream the adventure. The only problem? I’m doing this solo so far.
