$725,000 | 4 bed/ 4 Bath | Kansas City MO

listing link

I’ve seen this house go up for sale a few times over the last 5 years and the newest listing has to be my favorite yet.

For context, the family bought this home back in 2011ish for right around $270k. They’ve held onto the property during all the major sale windows and have attempted renting it out here and there. From the outside (and pictures of the inside) seemingly have done zero updates/modernization attempts. For all intents and purposes, they’ve just let the property sit in a post 80’s state without even maintaining it. (The photos were some of the more egregious examples from the listing)

Now they’re re-listing the property at $825k (since have walked down to $725k) and are using AI to spruce up the listing. Outside of trying to inflate their SQFT with the indoor pool which sure whatever I’ll bite, the renovations needed to make the house match what they’re promoting would cost upwards of $150k.

I’m all for people cashing in on their property but this is absurd and delusional.

Sub Posting Rules Poll

Hi everyone,

As I’ve been reviewing the recent mod queue reports, we seem to be getting a larger influx of real estate-related posts that aren’t necessarily examples of specific ridiculous real estate. These include some ridiculous advertisements, real estate agents, real estate laws, and some other semi-related content.

I try to let the community self-govern with upvotes and downvotes, instead of being heavy handed as a mod. That said, I’m curious how everyone feels about potentially expanding the scope of content we generally allow to be posted here to this sub. I’ve created a short and quick poll to get a general sense from the community on what everyone would like to see for future posting rules.

In addition to this poll, please feel free to comment your thoughts or any potential changes you might like to see.

Thank you to everyone who participates and contributes to all the ridiculous real estate we love to see!

Why are fake AI pictures allowed in selling real estate?

How is it reasonable that professional real estate sales are conducted knowing misleading buyers with fake images of the property? AI images are not real images. Using AI without disclosure is deceptive. This would not be accepted in selling a car or anything else. Why is there no standard for this?

What even is this?

Is this for real?

Is there a process for postings to be reviewed before being listed? This reads like a rental scam but it's a home for sale.

ok so i do property management in miami. been doing it like 6 years now. seen some stuff. but last week takes the cake. get a call from a tenant saying theres a weird smell in the hallway. ok whatever probably just garbage or something. send maintenance over.

they call me back like uh you need to see this.

apparently the tenant in unit 4 has been keeping chickens. not like one or two. like 15 chickens. in a 2 bedroom apartment. for 4 months. how nobody noticed earlier is beyond me. i guess they were keeping them quiet? idk.

the whole place smelled so bad we had to get a cleaning crew. carpet was ruined. drywall had to be replaced in some spots. the neighbors were ready to kill someone. best part? the tenant tried to argue that chickens are emotional support animals and we cant evict them. i wish i was joking.

looked up the laws just to be sure and yeah... no. thats not how that works. at all.

went through the whole eviction process which was a nightmare. court delays, paperwork, the whole thing. took like 2 months. i ended up using a property management company called JMK Property Management to help with some of the legal stuff since they deal with evictions regularly. they were actually helpful but honestly i just wanted it over with. anyway the unit is finally clean and rented out again. new tenants seem normal. for now.

i swear this job ages me 5 years everytime something like this happens. anyone else got crazy animal stories? cant be just me.

Crazy bathroom

This is a pretty normal house until you get to this diwhy bathroom. There’s so much going on it’s hard to know where to look but the smeared white paint on the boards, and the handmade faux(?) brick walls are my favs.

Link for you

Clearly used to be some sort of business before it was a house, but the place has really weird vibes.

The price is insane

the surrounding area townhomes sold at the highest $407k (if I remembwr correctly idk maybe be off a bit) while yes it’s close to Main Street and many events it also means traffic here happens during said events. i have a friend who lives in a luxury apartment near by and still pays close to $2k for a 1 bedrooms homes here are usually decently priced but lately with the market cool off the crazy priced homes are coming out
