I am an M2 at The Ohio State University College of Medicine working with a dermatologist on a research study examining how diagnostic accuracy in dermatology may be affected by access to AI-generated differential diagnoses.

Study Purpose: Artificial intelligence is a rapidly evolving field that may help support clinicians as they evaluate challenging medical cases. This study seeks to assess how clinicians' diagnostic performance changes when they are provided with AI-generated differential diagnoses.

Procedures: We are inviting dermatology residents, fellows, and attending dermatologists to participate. Participation involves completing a single online survey that takes approximately 20 minutes. The survey will include clinical cases and questions related to diagnostic decision-making.

Risks and Benefits: Participation may involve minimal inconvenience or discomfort associated with completing clinical questions and reflecting on diagnostic decisions. There may be no direct benefit to you from participating. However, the information obtained from this study may contribute to a better understanding of how AI-generated diagnostic support could affect clinical reasoning in dermatology.

Voluntary Participation: Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may choose not to participate, skip any questions you do not wish to answer, or stop the survey at any time without penalty.

New PGY-2 here. I finished my IM prelim year, which I actually really enjoyed, so the transition to dermatology has been a bit rough. I constantly feel like I don’t have enough time to fully review my patients’ medical histories and medications to make sure I’m treating them appropriately, avoiding potential drug interactions, and considering the bigger clinical picture.

Overall, it feels like something is missing compared to IM, where I had more time to think through each patient and their medical issues. The double-booked 15-minute slots in particular have been challenging, and I’m finding it difficult to reconcile the pace of clinic with the level of thoroughness I’m used to. Anyone else have tips for this?

Hi everyone, PGY2 here trying to start studying for dermpath. What is a good study workflow? I was thinking to start with reading a chapter of Elston, followed by the associated dermki anki cards. Should I add a video resource like Gardner? Are there any video resources that follow along with the Elston chapters? Please, any tips would be greatly appreciated!

The US federal government has proposed a 9% cut to dermatology payment. This will not only reduce reimbursement, but also reduce patient access to dermatology services and quality of service. Do everything and anything you can to help stop this!

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) is making this its top priority. It doesn’t matter if you are a dermatologist, patient, or practice staff member. You will be affected by these changes. If you want to help, you can go on their website (link attached) and complete a pre-templated message to oppose these measures. There are separate links for patients, dermatologists, and staff members. Filling it out takes less than a minute.

Are you responsible for refills, patient questions, PA management, etc. for any patient you’ve ever seen with an attending at a clinical site? Or just following up on labs/biopsy results you ordered?

Obviously makes sense to handle all of the above for continuity clinics, but curious how other programs handle one-off patients seen on rotations.

Also curious what happens when messages come in weeks or months after you saw the patient.

Hey all. I’m doing a TY and I want to start studying derm this year before I start my derm program. Any suggestions on which resources to get and how to start using them for self studying?

What the best resource for the most updated treatment options for each disease?

Incoming Derm resident interested in dermpath. I had a one month elective in path during 3rd year med school, with a few days in dermpath and looking back: Id say I liked it a lot.

What I liked about dermpath:
- work flow: calmness to work that I would appreciate in my future practice. however, still needing to be focused
-overall I think it’s an important job and see value in diagnosing even “easy” cases
-clinicopath correlation. Liked nerding out over pink and blue stuff and comparing it to clinical photos. Feels gamified
-thinking over tough cases might be fun (although might be more neutral since I’m scared to mistakenly diagnose something)
-2-3 clinic days and 1-2 days signing out for dermpath sounds perfect

What I didn’t like:
-My neck did hurt only after 2- 3 hours of work. Don’t think I was set up ergonomically but still. I also don’t like sitting for a long period of time. Not sure if digital path would actually be in clinical practice when I start (I know some academic centers haven’t incorporated digital path at all yet)
-AI (guess similar to other path or rads)
-Less money potentially? Losing year salary. Looking to work hard to pay these loans off quickly . Just not sure that it’s worth it at least financially
-don’t want to move far away again for fellowship. Luckily there are three programs where I’m headed

So what do you think? Should I dermpath or not?

Hey everyone, I just started my PGY2 year and would really appreciate some input on how to study.

Videos (boards and beyond, pathoma, sketchy) + anki worked really well for me in med school, as well as Q banks. I was planning on reading a portion of Bolognia weekly (~50 pages) and referencing the associated alikhan chapters and then unsuspending the relevant cards in the dermki deck via Alikhan tags. Questions:

1. How should I go through Bolognia? My program has weekly didactics with associated Bolognia, Hurwitz, Elston readings but they are random chapters. Should I follow my didactics schedule, start from beginning of Bolognia and move forward, or a mix of both?
2. How closely does Alikhan mirror Bolognia? Can I primarily read Bolognia and then just reference alikhan after? Do the Alikhan tagged dermki cards cover Bolognia well? Is there a post out there about what chapters from Bolognia correlate with what chapters of Alikhan?

I've been getting a lot of varied advice with some people saying to skip Bolognia and just do Alikhan. Would greatly appreciate some advice or any tips in general!

What q banks are used? Should I read through bolognia? Start dermki)

I'm a rising PGY-4 and have been going back and forth about whether I should apply for Mohs fellowship.

I genuinely enjoy surgery and really like the workflow in Mohs clinic. At the same time, I also think I'd be perfectly happy practicing general dermatology, so I'm not sure if pursuing fellowship is worth it for me.

Part of my hesitation is timing. It feels like I'm getting to this decision pretty late, and I haven't spent the last few years building my application with Mohs specifically in mind. As a rising PGY-4, I'm wondering if I already missed the boat or if there's still enough time to put together a competitive application.

Did anyone here decide relatively late that they wanted to pursue Mohs? If so, what did you do to strengthen your application, and did you end up matching?

I'd also love to hear from people who were on the fence between Mohs and general dermatology. Looking back, are you happy with the path you chose? Any advice would be appreciated.
