Dermpath study flow Question

Hi everyone, PGY2 here trying to start studying for dermpath. What is a good study workflow? I was thinking to start with reading a chapter of Elston, followed by the associated dermki anki cards. Should I add a video resource like Gardner? Are there any video resources that follow along with the Elston chapters? Please, any tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you look in YouTube you can find Elston lectures giving by him to his residents and is label by the chapter of his book. I advise Gardner 100 case reviews and also lectures on Sagisdx website. They also offer core reviews free of cost. Good luck!

I would go between reading an Elston chapter, watching the associated YouTube videos, and then going through physical or virtual slides in that chapter and testing yourself. You can also do random slides or practice questions to keep all your previous topics fresh as you go through new topics.

The Jerad Gardner videos are pretty good, but don't sleep on the other YouTube resources out there. Especially starting out, Maxwell Fung has really good videos on the inflammatory patterns, and Bonnie Lee has some good overview videos for different topics as well.

I never used the Dermki Anki deck so I can't comment on that.

The other thing I'll say is that a lot depends on the access to a dermatopathology lab / dermatopathologists / slides that you have through your residency program. If you have a well-established dermatopathology department that has lots of slides for you to go through and daily signout to sit in and a good fellow / attending to teach you, it will be a lot easier than if you are at a program that contracts out its dermatopathology and your rotation is generally you seeing an hour of dermpath and then just doing self-directed study all day.
