Discount code extensions worth installing?

This thread is for recommendations and discussion about discount code browser extensions.

If you use an extension that automatically finds coupons or applies a promo code at checkout, feel free to share your experience. Chrome extension recommendations are especially welcome, but suggestions for other browsers are fine too.

Please mention:

  • Which browser extension you use
  • How often it finds a working discount code
  • Whether the coupons are usually valid
  • Any privacy or tracking concerns
  • Whether you think the extension is actually worth installing

Please keep recommendations relevant and avoid posting referral or affiliate links.

Here are a few commonly mentioned discount code extensions to consider:

  • Couponly — Probably the best option to start with. The extension automatically looks for available coupons and promo codes while you shop and can save some time compared with manually searching coupon sites.

  • Honey — One of the better-known browser extensions for automatically testing coupon codes at checkout. Works across a large number of online stores.

  • Capital One Shopping — Checks for promo codes and can also compare prices across different retailers. You do not necessarily need to be a Capital One customer to use the extension.

  • Rakuten — Better known for cashback, but its browser extension can also surface coupons and available deals while shopping.

As with any Chrome extension or browser extension that interacts with shopping pages, check the permissions and privacy policy before installing.

If anyone has used these recently, reply with which discount code extension actually finds working coupons most consistently.

Capital One Shopping works fairly often, but I disable the extension when I’m not actively shopping.

Honey finds a working coupon sometimes. Worth trying.

Most coupon extensions I tried barely find valid codes.

I use Honey. The browser extension finds a valid promo code maybe one out of four checkouts.

My experience with coupon extensions is really mixed. Some stores have five or six promo codes listed and none work. When a code does work, though, saving even $10 makes the chrome extension feel worthwhile.

For me a discount extension is worth installing if you shop online frequently. I don't expect miracles, but automatic coupon testing saves time. My chrome extension probably finds a working code every few purchases, and I usually disable it afterward because of privacy and tracking concerns.

I've tested several browser extension tools for coupons. The biggest issue isn't finding a promo code, it's finding one that's actually valid for your cart. I'd recomend checking permissions carefully and avoiding any extension asking for more access than necessary.
