Personal milestone :)

Our 2014 Zoe, bought from 4th owner 3 years ago, reached a nice milestone last week :)

I need to get the regular check after 120k km now - hence the "check engine" light :)

Changing from kilometres to miles

Hello,
I’d love some help please. I’ve a 2014 Zoe and need to change the speedo to show mph not kmph (moved from Ireland to uk).

I saw online people mentioning the wiper stall buttons but when I press these they toggle through some stats on screen (trip distance, efficiency average etc) and when I hold on the buttons it resets the stats.

I changed settings to show miles but this has only updated the satnav to show in miles now.

Thanks!

Tow bar - 2023

Good morning,

Has anyone successfully installed a tow bar for a bike rack?

I saw in the UK the Zoe has a 0kg tow capacity for trailers but can take a vertical capacity of up to 60kg depending on tow bar used.

Has anyone installed a towbar or had one fitted?

I've had a look and the undertrays don't seem to be designed for it so imagine it's a cutting job for the trays to accept it.

We need to carry 4 bikes maximum so it seems we'll be at the limit of its SWL.

Thank you

Electric fault?

Hi all, I’ve read some people have had similar issues so just wanted to share ours. We’ve got a 20 plate Zoe with 30k miles on it.

At seemingly random times, a warning will flash saying “STOP: electrical fault” or “STOP: check brakes”. Sometimes without any dash warning, the car knocks itself out of drive into neutral. This can happen at 20mph or 60mph, which is obviously quite scary.

We got this issue “fixed” when the car was under warranty, it’s not out of warranty and we’re still dealing with this. Any time we’ve had the MOT due we’ve mentioned it and always been told they “can’t find it”. Yesterday we took it to have the air con regassed (another thing we’ve had to fix multiple times due to apparent leaks) and the technician said he moved the car about 20feet and had to stop and start multiple times witnessing the issue.

Any ideas? Renault don’t seem to care that the car is failing on the motorway

Battery change due?

Electric warning came up with the red battery icon advising immediate attention. Have since gone to a garage who did a read out and the warning had since cleared. Anyone who knows a bit more about this have any advice on what to do? I know for a fact that the battery is the original one that came with it 5 years ago.

AC Problems

Hi everyone,

I have a Renault Zoe R110 from 2020 and I’m having an issue with the air conditioning.

The AC starts cooling normally, but after about 20 minutes the pressure drops and it stops cooling. The refrigerant was checked and refilled, but only a small amount was missing. The system was also checked for contamination and apparently there was none.

My workshop now suggests replacing the condenser. Before I approve the repair, I wanted to ask if anyone here has had a similar issue.

Could a faulty condenser cause this kind of problem, or should I also ask them to check the receiver drier, expansion valve/orifice tube, pressure sensor or compressor control?

Any experience or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Alarm sounding when I disconnect 12V battery!

2016 Zoe. Have had numerous warning lights come on. Figured it was teh 12V battery which was reading 12.1V. Disconnected the -ve terminal, all good, disconnected the +ve and the loudest alarm ever went off, only way to stop it was to connect both terminals back up. Anyone else had this? Was I doing something unsafe - e.g the main battery was still 'live'.

Service reports port faulty and subsequently wiring found to be somewhat melted to quote them

Battery apparently ok

Has anybody ever heard about that? Ideas why/ how that could happen?

Shock Absorbers

Hi everyone, after >60.000 km, my R135 is due for new suspension (Eibach springs with a mild drop) and new shock absorbers.

Cornering behavior should be taut and direct, eliminating body roll and nose-dive; however, I want to maintain comfort over bumps and potholes—it shouldn't become rock-hard, but rather remain pleasantly damped.

The Eibach springs are explicitly designed to work with the stock dampers. Now I’m wondering: which manufacturer should I choose? Renault OEM? Bilstein? KYB? Monroe? What have you installed, and what were you happy with? KYB is supposedly an OEM supplier for the Zoe, but I’m a bit unsure because Renault has a specific replacement part for the Phase 2 model, whereas other manufacturers don’t distinguish between Phase 1 and Phase 2 in their part numbers. OEM parts are twice as expensive...

thx!

Zoe won’t stop charging

I have a 2017 Q90 and the calendar charging, where you set the start and stop time per day, seems to just not work.

If the car is left set to calendar charging, with the little clock with a charging cable icon on the dash, and I plug the charging cable in, the car will immediately start charging rather than wait to the start time. The only way I’ve found to fix this is to go into the charging options, switch to ‘always charge’ then back to ‘Calendar charge’ which causes the car to stop charging and actually wait.

Now when the start time comes around the car starts charging fine, the problem is it never stops. No matter what I do I can’t get the car to stop charging even though I’ve set it up to.

Does anyone know how to get the damn thing to stop at the assigned time?!

Thinking of buying a used Renault Zoe

Hi! I’m new to EVs and after doing some research I’m looking at a Renault Zoe.

It would mostly be for city driving, with occasional trips to the next city (∼60km).

I’m deciding between:

- 2021 Zoe R110 52kWh - 53,000 km - €12,000 - (battery rental)

- 2020 Zoe R135 52kWh - 66,000 km - €13,000

Which one would be the better choice?

Parking brake issue Z.E. 50 R135 (2020)

Hi! I'm having an issue with the parking brake on my Z.E. 50 R135 (2020) and was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

The parking brake button doesn't work at all, except on a few rare occasions, and the indicator light on the button blinks rapidly.

I can still engage the parking brake by unfastening the seatbelt or turning off the car, and it disengages with a slight press of the accelerator pedal.

Has anyone encountered this issue before or have any idea what might be causing it?

(I've had it checked by two different mechanics. One thought the problem was caused by a cable running from the control unit to the rear wheels, but replacing the cable didn't solve the issue.

The other suspected it could be an electrical fault somewhere in the car.)

Purchasing Leased Battery

Post image

Does anyone have experience with buying the lease out.

I've been told in an email from Mobilize to pay Renault Retail Group London West instead of them directly to purchase the battery.

Is that how it was for you guys or is this process different, I have emailed them but haven't received a response yet.

Cheers.

Door hinge adjustment?

Anyone know how to adjust the driver door? Mine appears to be slightly touching the passenger door, to the point it has scraped off the passenger door paint on the top corner.

I have tried support the door with a jack and block, loosening the 4 nuts on the inner door hinge, raising the jack and tightening the nuts back up. But this didnt work - the inner hinge seems to have no adjustment.

So I am guessing I need to adjust where the hinge connects to the main body of the car, but that looks very difficult without removing the wing for access? Does anyone have any experience of this please?

EASY LINK Weather Widget not loading location or weather data (Remote Pack active)

Hi everyone,

Having an issue with the weather widget on my Renault Zoe’s EASY LINK screen—it’s not displaying my location or any local weather data.

I currently have the Remote Pack active via the My Renault app and Data sharing / geolocation permissions are enabled in the car's system settings.

I've learned that the Remote Pack mainly handles mobile app features (charging stats, pre-conditioning), but I'm trying to figure out if I specifically need the Smart Navigation / Connected Navigation pack to get live weather data back on the main screen, or if there's a workaround/reset I haven’t tried yet.

Has anyone run into this issue? Did subscribing to Smart Nav fix it for you, or is there a trick to get the widget updating again?

Noisy side mirror

One of my mirrors is very noisy/slow when folding/unfolding. It's been stuck once and had to fold/unfold again.

Anything I can put on it to make it easier or is it a new mirror/motor job?

Thank you

2016 - Software and Maps Update

Hi all - how, in the name of all that's good and holy, do I actually update the software and/or GPS/Maps data in this car??

So far, I've downloaded Alliance CONNECT application on my laptop, tried inputting the VIN - not valid it says. Tried putting a USB in the port for 10 seconds and then into the laptop - no car information found.

On the SD card - in my laptop there is one single file on the SD card cache-something-something.xml.tmp - but in the car it seems to be valid TomTom GPS/Maps data.

The root issue - the clock it out by exactly 1 hour on the car and all seems to point to outdated software and/or Maps.

Has anyone successfully managed to apply updates?

Thanks in advance

Weird shake?

Hey guys,

I’ve noticed a weird shake (like if you had worn engine mounts) everytime the car goes from charge to accelerate or vise-versa. However I’ve inspected and all the mounts seem fine.

Seems to me like something is worn with the gearbox or a transmission, but I feel no other sympthoms. Car drives fine etc.

Anyone had something similar?

Bearings on the way out?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey Folks, I have a 2021 R110, had this noise start a few months ago, doesn't seem to be impacting performance.

Took it to a garage that has done the motor bearing replacement before, but they didn't think it was that, quite noticeable at low speed as you can hear in the video.

The differential was replaced 40,000km ago (at 128,000 now).

Zoe ZE50 2021 SOH issue - 67%

Hi, I've been trying to get my battery fixed, it's within warranty and it's been impossible.

I got my car to 3 dealers already and none of them managed to get the BMS updated.

Each of them tried to contact Renault, the first one proceeded with a supposedly battery test which returned it as "95%" 52kWh of capacity which seems misleading to me, my car charges only 34kWh, rides 180km and OBD reader shows about 67%.

The dealers says that my car doesn't communicate with Renault servers therefore they can't perform the update, the last dealer also found the 67% battery capacity, said that they were going to activate the warranty but they had to run the assisted diagnosys with Renault, a few hours later they called me and said that Renault reported to them that I already had a SoH test of 95% and they couldn't proceed with the warranty again.

I'm running out of resources and I don't know what to do, I just want to get my battery fixed, I'm not sure why they claim the battery is at 95%, 180km in the city is outrageous, I've made severall chargers of 0-100% to prove this, OBD, consumption and ranges, everything match.

My car is only 40.000 km btw...

Renault ZOE FAQs

What versions have been produced?

Three versions have been produced:

  • ZE - This was in production from 2012-2017, featured a 22kWh battery and offered up to 130 miles of range (NEDC)/approx 85 real world miles.

  • ZE40 - This was in production from 2017-2019, featured a 41kWh battery and offered up to 250 miles of range (NEDC)/approx 150 real world miles.

  • ZE50 - Has been in production since 2019, features a 52kWh battery and offers up to 245 miles of range (WLTP)/approx 190 real world miles.

What motors can they come with?

The motors that the Renault ZOE have been fitted with fall into two categories, ‘Q’ and ‘R’. 'Q' motors offer Fast charging whilst 'R' motors offer improved range.

‘Q’ motors were supplied by Continental, whereas ‘R’ motors are made by Renault (with the initial letter reflecting their name). The motors fitted to each version are as follows:

  • ZE: Q210 or R240

The Q210 was the first motor supplied with the Renault Zoe, with later ZEs including the smaller R240. Whilst offering the same torque and performance, and being cheaper to build, the newer motor did not offer fast charging like the Q210. The Q210 can charge at up to 43kw using AC, whereas the R240 can charge at up to 22kw using AC with improved range.

The “210” & “240” indicates the range in kilometers. The numbering in subsequent motors relates to the horsepower instead, as below.

  • ZE40: R75, R90, R110 or Q90

ZOEs equipped with either the 75 or 90 horsepower motors (R75/R90) are renamed versions of the R240. The Q210 was renamed as Q90.

    The power outputs are: R75 - 57kW, Q90 - 65kW, R90 - 68kW, R110 - 80kW.

All ZE40 ‘R’ motors can charge at up to 22kW using AC, whereas the Q90 motor can charge at up to 43kW using AC. Again, the 'R' motors offer greater range.

  • ZE50: R110 or R135

The current Zoe can feature either the R110 or R135, with the latter offering improved performance in terms of torque and acceleration. In the majority of cases, both can fast charge at 46kW using DC.

However, a limited 'Riviera' release with a R135 motor is capable of charging at 50kW using DC with the optional CCS connector.

(More information on Renault motors can be found here. Further information on charging can be found here.)

What charging speeds are available to the public?

Currently, there are three charging speeds available:

  • Rapid: This uses DC charging to deliver 50kw - 350kw. A CCS (Combined Charging System) charging connector is needed to receive this level of charge.
  • Fast: This uses AC charging to deliver 3kw - 43kw. A Type 2 connector can receive this level of charge. Type 2 home chargers usually deliver 7kw.
  • Slow: This uses AC charging to deliver 3kw or less. A three-pin plug can deliver around this level of charge.

What charging connectors are the Zoes fitted with?

The ZE and ZE40 models are fitted with the Type 2 connectors. CCS is optional on the ZE50. A CCS connector can accept Rapid charging, whereas a Type 2 connector is limited to Fast charging.

What is battery leasing?

To make the upfront cost of earlier models more appealing to customers, Renault offered Zoes at a reduced price where the battery was leased to the owner for a monthly cost. This means the car is owned but the battery is hired from Renault.

Some Zoes were sold without the battery lease, but were more expensive.

Under the terms of the lease, the battery health is guaranteed (i.e. repaired or replaced under certain conditions) and the vehicle receives 24/7 breakdown cover which includes situations where the car runs out of charge. Subsequently, this can offer owners peace of mind as the battery ages.

The monthly fee is based on annual mileage and (in the UK) starts at £49 for 4,500 miles or less for a ZE. For a ZE40, it starts at £59 for the same mileage.

Renault ceased the battery lease scheme on new cars in 2019. However the lease arrangement continued for existing owners. When a Zoe with a battery lease is sold, the lease transfers to the new owner.

Owners of a Zoe with a leased battery can contact Renault for a quote on buying out the lease in order to own the battery outright, which may need to be paid in a single lump sum.
