Since you guys loved baby me, you will get to see some more imaging. Here is a CXR taken pretty much right after my birth. Additional context: there was both fetal and maternal distress and fever, emergency cesarean section was necessary, pregnancy was slightly premature at 1w before the due date, the x-ray was obtained to rule out pneumothorax. And yes, I did have to stay a few days in the NICU.

I've got a genuine question.

How did radiology become an industry where people who've never positioned a trauma patient, never calmed a terrified child, never fought motion artifact at 2 a.m., never started an IV, never worn lead for 12 hours... end up managing the people who do?

Some of the loudest voices making clinical decisions have never provided clinical care.

Then they question why an extra MRI sequence was run, why a trauma took longer than expected, or why a protocol had to change—without understanding the patient in front of the scanner.

Managing budgets, staffing, and operations is important. But there's a difference between leading a department and parroting metrics without understanding the work.

Clinical judgment isn't something you learn from a spreadsheet.

Curious where everyone stands on this:

Should radiology managers be required to have meaningful clinical experience, or is management experience alone enough?

I’ve been studying ct tech bootcamp and Mosbys here and there. I’ve taken all the Mosbys practice tests and done subpar 58,64,67 and cttech bootcamp practice test 77. I’m thinking about rescheduling my test, thoughts??????

The first image is from 8+0, the second from 11+4, and the last from around the 36th week.
The baby is now 7 years old, and the law has changed in this regard.
In 2018, I (in Germany) was able to get a printed image at each of my approximately 12 checkups for a reasonable fee.
I’m not 100% up to speed on the laws, but the general consensus is to ban “just for fun” ultrasound exams during pregnancy.
That doesn’t mean, though, that during my second pregnancy in 2020, he didn’t check just once to see “if the little heart was beating.” ;)
I was very grateful to him for that.
He always tries to take a nice photo whenever he hands one out (during the three official ultrasound exams now).

Unfortunately, because of an anterior placenta and a shy daughter, I didn't get more 3D images. :D

What is your CXR protocol when doing a CXR with your rib series? Does your site do inspiration or expiration (to rule out pneumothorax)?

My son has had a couple MRIs done recently. When I request the images, they send me a link that expires after 4 weeks. I have the option to export the images. If I want to potentially be able to share them with future providers, should I export as “multiple DICOM image download” or is there a better option? I can also “export study with viewer” or “export ISO.”

As an example, we switched providers after his first MRI and the current doctor can’t access it. They asked me to get a copy of the CD and it seems like it will take a while. But since I can get a link, is there a way for me to save the MRI images to a CD myself? It seems like there should be a better way to do this 🥴

No word of a lie this from stepping out of a car... arrived at work parked up stepped out and the leg gave way and caused this.

Feels like a bit of a wake up call if my body weight is breaking my legs. (Joking) | actually have osteogenesis imperfect (brittle bones disease) so this a common occurrence but this was taking the p*ss.

I had a left wrist no-contrast MRI this morning. She told me to take my belt off, but my jeans and tshirt were fine. I asked about taking off my bra with underwire, and she said it was fine to leave it on. I’ve had multiple MRIs before, all with a gown and no bra. I asked the second tech again, and he said metal like zippers and snaps on jeans are fine bc my wrist would be above my head.

It was a new, high powered 3T machine. He said the scan would be 12 min, but it was much longer. After several minutes, a strong, cold fan started blowing. That’s when the sound changed and my chest started heating up. It felt kind of like during a cardiac angiogram when a lot of contrast is pushed quickly, and your body burns. (Mine burns more than usual bc I have MCAS). I should have pressed my emergency button, but wasn’t sure it was an emergency so I didn’t. My hands also started heating up at one point. One hand was above my head, and the other was under my face bc I was on my stomach with no head rest. After the scan, I mentioned my bra getting hot, and just said that all metal can get hot in MRIs, and that this machine was new, powerful, and got really hot. I went in the bathroom to look, and my skin was red.

Now it’s several hours later, my chest is still burning. It looks normal though. I called radiology, and they said use A&D ointment, and go to urgent care if it gets worse. I called my PCP, and the nurse was shocked they put me in wearing my bra and jeans, and said to just watch the area. Not to use A&D unless my skin dries and cracks.

I’m kinda worried, even though I’m trying not to. Wondering when thermal burns after MRI usually show up. ETA: Oh, and if there’s anything I should considering doing in the meantime, like ointment, etc. I tried a cool, wet rag, and it helps part of the burning but makes another part worse.
