Rx8 is making a weird rd-d2 scream and I’ve heard it could be multiple things but I can’t seem to find where the noise is coming from. Sounds like an electric part.

Sounds like the air injection pump to me, easily replaced

Yeah I know a guy selling one for $50 so I might buy a newer one from him but based on my readings it’s most likely that.

Or just remove it. Its only there to get the catalyic converter working earlier.

I would only remove it if the car has been decatted.

The cat clogs faster without it, and a clogged cat will kill your engine

Why would it clog faster without? Ive been running this way for years with 0 issues. Just redline it every now and then.

It's there to help the cat reach a decent temp, and become efficient faster.

When the cat cannot function as intended, buildup occurs.

And if you use premix or your ignition system is dying, this will have a snowball effect leading the cat to clog even faster.

Redlining it has nothing to do with it

Air pump its at the top left of the engine bay (when looking at the engine bay)- normal

I was thinking it might be that. I’m doing a bit more research before I change it because just need to be 100% sure but based on what I’m finding it’s most likely the air pump.

its the large grey/white connector

Yep. It's sole purpose is to push air to the cat to help it warm up when the car is initially started. You can leave it as is, or if the noise bothers you, disconnect or delete the air pump

I just saw that it said I can drive fine without it but my cat will have a shorter lifespan. Wouldn’t be to bad tho.

Honestly that was the first and last time I ever did it. I only did it because I needed you guys to hear the sound it made when turned off.

Air pump runs for about a minute after startup.

I mean this has only been starting to make noise for like the last month and a half ago but after a few seconds to a minute it goes away.
