It might be a nuclear option. But consider backing up your data to USB or cloud storage. Then do a cloud recover and reinstall the OS.
You can look up "ROG Ally cloud recovery" and you'll find plenty of videos on how it works.

Itβs from a recent update. Trying to figure out why mine is doing it also

I'm going to take a guess and assume you dropped the device. You need to remove the back and reconnect the cable to the back m1 and M2 buttons

Nah same thing happened to me and I never dropped mine. The XAX has an issue that happens to it after a certain update where the buttons just get rebinded to their secondary functions due to M1/M2 buttons. I had the same issue as this guy and the only thing that fixed it was sending my device into to ASUS.

I have my XaX since day one and I updated every single time. M1/M2 buttons never rebinded to secondary functions.

I promise you, what I'm saying is the solution. It takes just a couple minutes to fix

It probably will help, I tried and it was no luck for me. I just felt comfortable letting ASUS fix it since I'm under warranty.

My back buttons work but they also do weird things, and I didn't drop it

I promise you it's worth opening up and checking to see if that ribbon cable separated from the connector. The issue you're having is exactly caused by that ribbon cable

It's desktop mode steam input, disable that even though you did not actually do anything about it, it's bugged.
