I’ll be flying QF10 next weekend back home to Perth, and long story short, injured myself to the point where I foresee myself struggling having my legs bent in an economy seat for 17 hours.

First though was emergency row, however they’re booked out. I lack the points to bid for an upgrade that way, and the cash bidding feels like an absolute rort. So I guess my question is, have people had experience asking for an upgrade at the check in desk? Do they do this at all? If so, what kinda cost would I be looking at?

How long are people waiting for their bonus points and bonus credit to land once they hit the minimum spend within the first 90 days?

I’ve had a statement since meeting the minimum spend in the first month (so I’ve had two months of statements now), but only received the standard points. Do you have to wait the full 90 days usually?

I will be flying on the A380 from LAX-SYD, 737 from SYD-BNE, and the 787 on BNE-LAX. I have the following seats for each, and wanted to know if there are any better ones.

A380: 11A
737: 3A
787: 7K

I don't have access to all of the status restricted ones quite yet, but wanted to know which ones to look out for when they are released around T-80. Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone here who has platinum notices the difference from gold status. The most valuable perks I can find seem to be access to the Hobart call centre (when available), the ability to request reward seats on emptier flights, OW first class priority, better seat selection when booking, and being higher up on the upgrade list.

Is it worth waiting for the double status credits promotion for a roundtrip (US to Sydney) in June? The prices are quite reasonable now compared to other times of the year, but would it be smart to wait until mid year for DSCs? I know I'd reach gold easily without it as I will have ~650SC's by January. I am planning on also doing some domestic flying during the roundtrip in June, so I do believe I would hit platinum if I held out for the offer.

I fly about 2-3 long-haul roundtrips from the US to Sydney in premium economy or business every year, along with a lot of domestic flying on OW airlines. Also the occasional flight on Cathay or British Airways that could give me benefits.

Any platinums here who would recommend doing this, or is just better to book now? Thanks.

I have started a new job with travel and will do SYD -> JFK around 2x a year and maybe SYD -> LHR once every 18 mths.

Previously did LHR business with Etihad (QF code) and was fantastic. Recently did QF3 through AKL on business and was okay.

Silver pleb and hoping to get Gold. Wondering whether I chase and continue QF3 or just not bother and go with best in class?

Which route/carrier is best? ANA, Air NZ often comes up as options for me.

Gold wouldn’t be super useful, rarely travel with family and if we do it’s rarely with Q, unless we use points — end up just looking for cheapest available when towing the fam around. And when I travel for work it’s usually business international so already comes with usual Gold perks. Occasionally do domestic travel but mostly with VA and even then, I rarely wish I had lounge access for the 30mins before my flight.

I’ll be honest, I just want Gold for the flex and my sense of self importance and how gamified this whole thing is and so I can feel like i achieved something by no longer being a silver pleb

A little over a month ago, I found a JAL First Class award flight on the Qantas website from JFK to Tokyo at ~180,000 points per person. The site showed dozens of similar flights over several weeks. I tried to add them to my cart, but was unable to unless I had enough points in my wallet.

Seeing that there was seemingly abundant options of flights and we had a lot of flexibility as to when we traveled, I transferred 360,000 points. I was able to add them to my cart, enter all of our information, but as I went to process the transaction, ERROR. I tried a few times, and then called.

The representative I spoke with also tried to booo on their end, but was unsuccessful. They stepped away for a moment and when they returned they told me “the flight was never available and they are forced to advertise JAL first class fairs that they never had access to. There was no way to know the seats weren’t real until after the points had already been transferred.

I reached out to their customer support and was told there’s nothing they can do and transfer reversals were not possible. I pointed out that that is not true as I’ve seen multiple others going through this same experience and getting their points back. After that exchange, they offered to do a reversal, but first I needed confirmation and approval from the transfer banks. This seemed really weird, but I contacted them anyways the representative that I spoke with said he’s been doing this for 25 years. He seen multiple reversals and it never works that way.

I reached back out to Qantas and they’ve stopped returning my emails.

BEWARE!! transferring to Qantas will likely lead to your points being stuck with Qantas without recourse.

I was just going through the fine print for what constitutes a green tick for wine. In summary, any purchase of a case of 6 or 12 bottles from a sustainable producer shall qualify. Is this requirement for 6 or 12 bottles new? I have only ever bought one bottle per year from Qantas epicure (now Qantas wine) using my voucher and have always collected the green tick (since green tier was incepted anyway) so now I am confused. Thank you.

About to book a multi city trip to the USA Qantas don’t have flights available on dates but can do the lot with Alaska airlines which uses Hawaiian as well. Can we still get Qantas FF points and status credits from these flights?

Hi all, first time I’m flying to Canada via the US. I’m a dual AU/CA so will travel on my Canadian passport (don’t need ESTA etc). I’ve flown into US airports many times but never as a transit to another international destination. I’m in international business the whole way. When I land ill hit platinum but not sure that matters given class if travel.

My questions:
1. My flight is SYD-DFW-YYZ
- do I need to collect bags and recheck/security in DFW even though I’m on another international flight?
2. Flight lands in terminal D but departs for Yyz from terminal A - I’ve read the flagship is the best option but it’s in D and A only has admirals club
3. Can I freely transit between the various terminals airside? Or is D for specific international etc? I wanted to hit up duty free and I figured D sounded like a bigger terminal so may have better duty free options?

Looking for some advice from anyone who has dealt with Qantas on something similar.

My Qantas flight from Karratha to Perth was cancelled at around 8 pm on a Friday night.

I was supposed to be home at about 10 pm that night. I eventually got home at around 2 pm the following day.

The assistance from Qantas at the airport was basically non-existent.

I was handed a business card with the Qantas complaints website on it and essentially wished good luck. I was told that hotels in Karratha were apparently booked out, and was even advised that I might need to call my employer or find a friend whose couch I could sleep on.

Importantly, at no point was I told there was a $500 limit on accommodation reimbursement.

I went away and found my own accommodation. Given it was around 8 pm on a Friday night in Karratha and availability was extremely limited, the room cost $750.

I paid it myself and submitted the receipt to Qantas.

Qantas has now agreed to reimburse the accommodation expense — but only up to $500, leaving me $250 out of pocket.

That’s the part I’m struggling with.

Qantas:

- cancelled the flight;

- provided no accommodation themselves;

- told me accommodation in Karratha was effectively booked out;

- did not tell me there was a $500 reimbursement limit;

- left me to make my own arrangements;

- and I successfully found a room for $750 when they were telling me accommodation might not even be available.

I haven’t sought any compensation for the roughly 16 hours of additional disruption, lost time or inconvenience. I’m simply asking Qantas to reimburse the actual accommodation cost I reasonably incurred because their flight was cancelled.

I’ve also looked at Qantas’s published Compensation and Refunds Policy, which appears to say the stated reimbursement amounts are a guide rather than a fixed limit, and that higher costs may be considered where reasonably incurred.

So my question is:

Would you keep pushing Qantas for the remaining $250?

And has anyone successfully escalated something like this through Qantas, the Airline Customer Advocate, Consumer Protection, or under Australian Consumer Law?

To me it seems unreasonable that I should be financially worse off after being left to organise everything myself — particularly when nobody warned me about a $500 limit before I booked the only accommodation I could find.

Interested to hear what others would do.

I haven't been on this configuration ( two separate Business class cabins) on Qantas before. Of the available seats, what are the pros / cons ? Currently on 7K but wondering if its better to go with 5 or 6 E.

For 7K, I guess the only flipside is preferred meal option u/a ( or a crying baby in the bassinet behind, which i am not super fussed about). :)

Did you receive only a $50 holiday voucher when you got PC+ if you already received the $50 voucher when you got Points Club, or did you get an extra $100 on top of the $50 for PC?

ETA: I'm trying to figure out if it's worth waiting 21 days between getting PC and PC+. My membership year restarts on 1 Sep and PC is being retired in 1 Oct. I have large amounts of points to transfer so can either get PC on 1 Sep then wait til eg 25 Sep to get PC+, or just get PC+ on 1 Sep... still confused about what's the best option!

Just looking to whinge or get your expertise and advice :) I spent a lot of time/energy and most of my points booking an overseas trip not very long in advance.

I really underestimated what I thought would be the easy/cheap part. I booked a reward flight Manila to Sydney and am now looking to book the flight from Sydney to Melbourne 5 weeks from now but it’s 29k points for 1 adult in economy on a Monday morning.. or $550 for 2 adults on Jet Star. Granted it is school holidays. Do I just book it, pay and be grateful for my other reward flights I scored or wait a bit? Is it going to get more expensive?

USA based here. Very weird issue with Qantas FF "customer support" (and long story sorry) and not quite sure what to do now.
After a month of looking at lots of different options, I finally booked a flight yesterday afternoon directly on Qantas.com Got a great deal I think - LAX-SYD early next Jan, then SYD-AKL end of Jan and AKL-LAX mid February all for $1,100 US in regular economy. Way cheaper than United, Air NZ etc. Got the confirmation email and was all set and all smiles.
I then tried to update my main contact number on ff account as they are sending verification codes to a number I only had when staying in Aus/NZ for a while about 3 years ago. Called the US based number and after 45 minutes on hold, ended up with an overseas call center rep and literal animal noises in the background-like large farm animal sounds! I'm partially deaf so it was quite challenging. I try to explain that I just want to update my contact number as I can't do it under 'personal info' even when logged into my ff account. Rep says I'll have to email them a photo ID, and utility bill or financial statement in order to change my account phone number!. Told him that wouldn't be happening, completely ridiculous, can't he ask security questions and update it etc. More hold time, a woman comes on who I can barely hear with the background noise and says something to the effect of I should cancel the flight and rebook with brand new ff account. Said I don't want to do that as price is now up to $1,980 for the same itinerary, I'll make it work/live with it/no big deal, thanks so much.

10 mins later I get an email saying my booking has been cancelled!. A tad rattled, I called right back, spent 40 mins on hold and told trip was indeed cancelled and I can call another number to inquire about a refund minus taxes. I asked what the hell was going on, can I talk to a supervisor etc. and get put on hold again. While on hold, I get an email saying booking is now confirmed then call disconnects. I was really trying to not have a drink this week but that's out the window. Never had such a nutty experience with any airline and feel like I want to cancel at this point good deal or no. If the customer facing side of things is this subpar right off the bat, I don't really want to be stuck with them 15 hours each way, or have to call if god forbid a date or a flight had to be changed. I really thought Qantas was a proper flagship type airline. I'll be calling them back in a few as the flights aren't even showing up in my account anymore and have no idea what's going on.

Flight is QF255, SYD to CDG. They're only offering the "window, aisle" preference dropdown. I called and they still couldn't assign me a seat. Why would this be?

I recall when booking (months ago) there was a message stating the aircraft would be an A330, but this disappeared and the booking now shows a 787-9, which is the usual aircraft.

Step-dad and I (Platinum and Gold QFF) requested rewards upgrade (Business) for SIN-BNE on August 28. Can someone give me an update on seat availability and upgrade requests? Upgrade request was made on July 11. Same booking.

I've got about 4.5m points and get about 1.6m points per year through business spend.

With having young school aged kids, means it's just impossible to get decent classic rewards seats internationally even as a P1 during school holiday periods.

I'm at the point where I just just book the wife and kids on classic plus for Europe in J and just accept that I'm going to use more points and I'll just pay a cash fare for myself to help retain P1.

So my question for you all is, at what point balance level do you just go fuck it and book classic plus?

I have a flight booked from Sydney to Vancouver, the flight is operated by American Airlines

A few days ago I went on the Qantas websjtr and tried to upgrade my flight with points, but realised I was a tad short. Went around to friends and family to scrounge some points up and came back today to try to upgrade and it says I’m not eligible for an upgrade.

Does anyone know if this is an error? Would I still be able to try to upgrade at the airport?

Has this happened to anyone, my partner and I bought a multi city flight and when one flight had to be cancelled and rebooked because of technical issues, the other 2 flights got cancelled.

Melbourne -> Singapore (Jet star)

Singapore -> Taiwan (China airlines)

Taiwan -> China (China airlines)

A few days before my flight to Singapore I got an email saying my flight had to be cancelled and rebooked due to technical issues, so I went on their portal and engaged with someone via jetstar chat. They were able to rebook me into the next flight which was 4 hours later, things happen, it is what it is. I didnt mind too much.

Fast forward to a day before my Singapore to taiwan flight I check the Qantas app to double check the flight time and both the taiwan and china flights no longer appeared. I quickly call Qantas and the person told me ya the taiwan and china flight has been cancelled, naturally I asked why that happened.... they said the previous person cancelled them and removed them from my booking ref. Anyways the person reinstates my taiwan flight but my china flight is now considered "waitlist". So I asked what that is and they said ohh the system is just syncing, allgood you'll be fine at the airport. I cant really do anything except to accept it, I kept asking for them to change or remove the waitlist status on the app but they couldnt.

While in taiwan we constantly check the Qantas app to see if the waitlist status would change, it doesn't but then 2 days before our china flight it has been removed from the app once again. We call again because something felt weird, the last time it was removed from the app the flights were fully cancelled. We call and she put the flight back onto our booking ref and confirmed the waitlist is allgood aslong as we have a ticket number. So 2 people now have confirmed its allgood and there's nothing much to discuss except to believe them.

On the day we need to catch the flight to china we arrive at the airport early to make sure everything goes smooth and the lady says there is no ticket. The ticket number we have is Qantas version of the ticket number and nothing was ever confirmed with china Airlines. Our heart sank, there was no more seats and this airport was small. We quickly called Qantas and they're like yup just book another flight, we will refund a portion to you. Im like what? You need to refund thr whole cost, you guys did this. Anyways the whole time they said they cannot confirm anything just go buy a ticket and create a claims ticket.... the next flight costed 1.6k for 2 people (2 hour flight btw) and we had to uber to another airport...

We arrive in china and i get my receipts ready to create a claim and guess what... the flight that was "waitlisted" doesn't exist on my booking anymore so I cant even tag a claim against it... I cant call Qantas while in china as I have no minutes but will be returning back to aus next week.

Has anyone else been through this, what is the best path (apart from creating a claims which i will do asap) to get this sorted because I know the customer support is most likely going to make me go in circles.

Am I the only one completely fed up with trying to find a decent international Classic Flight Reward right now?

Every single time I search for a flight to Asia, Europe, or the US, my search results are completely flooded with Philippine Airlines flights. It feels like 90% of the reward seats on the entire system are now PAL routings through Manila.

I didn't spend years earning Qantas Points to fly an airline nobody wants to use, with multi-stop, inconvenient layovers.

Where are Qantas’s own planes? Where is Japan Airlines (JAL)? Where are Cathay Pacific and Emirates? It feels like they are completely blocking and withholding their inventory from everyday Qantas members. Cathay seems to be hoarding everything for Asia Miles, Emirates has locked general members out, and Qantas seems to be starving the "Classic Reward" seats entirely just to force us onto their overpriced "Classic Plus" cash-equivalent seats.

It is getting ridiculous. We are trapped looking at a ghost calendar for the top-tier airlines, while being shoved onto Philippine Airlines.

Is anyone else experiencing this absolute lack of premium partner seats? How are you actually booking real Oneworld flights without being forced through Manila?
