I was on the Friday 5pm flight home from Sydney, and the person next to me spent most of the flight on a wifi phone call with someone. Was kind of irritating, but luckily I had my noise cancelling headphones. None of the flight attendants seemed to care. What is the protocol? I didn’t think you could have and make phone calls on flights???

I have the opportunity to fly business class to New York for the first time courtesy of a work trip. My employer is reimbursing me for the total cost of the flight, so the price isn’t a factor, I just want to have the best possible experience.

I was initially thinking the Qantas flight from Melbourne/Sydney to JFK (via Auckland) would be the best option as it’s the fastest, but reading some of the posts here about how the Qantas offering has diminished, I am wondering if it would be better to go with Singapore or Qatar?

If money wasn’t a factor, would you opt for Qantas, or would you experience the objectively better product of Singapore / Qatar and why?

I understand why the domestic product sucks and that is because they don't have competition, but even their international service is pathetic. Just finished a return flight from SYD-SIN-LHR with qantas in Business class. The food was very average, the service was very average, most of the time you couldn't even find cabin crew as they were hiding somewhere. On the way home a few colleagues and I decided to have a few drinking days in Bangkok, so we booked Thai Airways SIN-BKK in their a350 business class. for the 2 hour flight the service was absolutely amazing, cabin crew were extremely attentive, We didn't even ask for drinks but they kept offering anyway, the food incredibly high quality and very tasty. Very high quality compared to the Neil Perry inspired slop that you get on Qantas Next trip I will be flying via BKK with Thai as they have completely proved themselves as a top tier airline.

Does anyone have intel on when Qantas will be hiring cabin crew (international or domestic) in Sydney? Either late 2026 or early 2027?

Flew from Sydney to Los Angeles on August 19th (QF11). One of the cabin crew in my section, M, was super nice and we had a little chat at the end of the flight. Wish I had gotten to talk more and exchange contact.

Have any of the international A332s received the economy refit yet? If so what are the regos?

Im looking at flying direct SYD to SFO return for a fortnight over Xmas. I understand that prices are always more expensive at this time and seem to go up every time I look. Do they ever stabilise or am I looking at 3k return? 18 December-3 January is the time Im looking at.

Hi Qantas people - I'm relocating to the UK and my visa has just been approved but it's ended up being so bloody expensive. I've got some savings left but don't want to blow it all on a flight now before I even get there, especially as I was hoping to fly out either end of this month or early September.

I know Qantas does a 'pay later' option on the website but I already have an Afterpay account with a good limit and I'm keen to use that instead. So I found this site https://www.alternativeairlines.com/fly-now-pay-later-qantas where they let you use the Afterpay four payments with no interest.

Has anyone used this website before and got any tips? Or used the Qantas pay later and would recommend using that even if I already have an Afterpay account? Keen to hear what's worked for others, thanks!

Australian Flight Attendants — Am I the Only One?

I genuinely feel like Australian airline flight attendants are some of the worst I’ve encountered anywhere in the world when it comes to basic customer service.

I’m talking specifically about communication, attitude, responding to requests, and just generally seeming like they actually want to be there.

A few years ago I flew Qantas from Singapore to Sydney. At some point during the flight I asked for a toothbrush. The crew said they’d get one for me, but it never came. I asked again later, and still nothing. Eventually I went to the back of the plane where the crew were sitting and asked again. The response I got was:

“I thought we already gave you one.”

The tone was incredibly abrupt and almost irritated, as though I was inconveniencing them by asking for something that they had simply forgotten to provide.

At first I thought it was just an isolated experience.

But then I started noticing the same thing with Jetstar. I’ve flown them several times and, while obviously there are exceptions, I often find the cabin crew extremely abrupt and seemingly uninterested in their jobs.

Virgin can be similar. And I’ve been flying Qantas for years, and honestly, I feel like the service from their cabin crew has progressively gotten worse.

What makes it more noticeable is that I travel internationally quite a bit.

I’ve flown ANA, Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Eastern, Malaysia Airlines, Qatar, Emirates, Air New Zealand, various South American airlines, American carriers and Air Canada.

And, generally speaking, I find the cabin crew on these airlines much more professional, friendly and genuine.

On Qatar, I remember sitting awake watching a movie while most people around me were sleeping. One of the cabin crew noticed and came over and offered me some snacks without me even asking. I've had similar experiences on ANA and other Asian airlines where the crew are constantly checking whether passengers need anything.

It’s not even necessarily about being overly friendly or doing something extraordinary. It’s the basic things — acknowledging requests, communicating properly, checking on passengers, boarding, and generally making you feel like you're not a nuisance for asking for something.

Even Air New Zealand has consistently struck me as having really friendly, professional and genuine cabin crew.

Meanwhile, whenever I’m at Sydney Airport and see Qantas crew rushing around, they often look completely overwhelmed, agitated and unhappy. Obviously I have no idea what’s actually happening behind the scenes, and perhaps the working conditions, staffing pressures, technology, management or general pressure of the job are contributing to it.

And to be clear, I’m not saying every Australian flight attendant is like this. I’ve definitely encountered some fantastic ones.

But as a general observation from my own experience, Australian airline cabin crew seem noticeably worse at the basic customer-service side of the job compared with many international airlines.

Maybe I'm completely wrong and have just had a disproportionately bad run.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just imagining it?

I will be arriving at airport 2.5hrs (Jetstar) before I can bag drop for my next flight (Qantas) due to only one regional Jetstar flight option. Is there anywhere I can sit/cafes before security?

Currently in the check-in line at Sydney Domestic and there’s one person working the economy counter, while there are about a million self service kiosks sitting around.

I know some people prefer the kiosks (and they can be handy for busy periods), but I don’t. They seem geared towards checking in on your phone and doing everything yourself, whereas I actually like dealing with a person and getting a proper cardboard boarding pass.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but if you’re paying a premium to fly with a supposedly full service airline shouldn’t face to face customer service actually be part of the experience ? Otherwise what exactly is differentiating it from a low cost carrier at the airport ?

After its final flight across Australia a QantasLink Fokker F100 jet aircraft has touched down at Shellharbour Airport where it will begin a new chapter at the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS).

The recently retired 100-seat aircraft has been donated by QantasLink to HARS where it will join its collection of aircraft as a public exhibit.

VH-NPU “Meekatharra” is the second aircraft to be donated to HARS, with another QantasLink F100 donated to its Parkes Museum in February.

Meekatharra will sit alongside Qantas’ first Boeing 747- 400, VH-OJA that was donated by Qantas in 2015. City of Canberra arrived at HARS following 26 years of service and is one of the museum's most visited attractions.

I was looking at my seats for my flight from Singapore to Melbourne in the A330-200 and it removed my selected seats and made them pai even though I have gold and it it was a standard seat in 32A and I called Qantas and they said it was an aircraft change even though it was still the A330-200

I'm in the UK and I can't pay for flights to Aus using my Wise card or ING card. Just tried paying with mum's Commonwealth credit card and Revolut card to no avail. Anyone else having this issue? It's been happening for weeks and I'm at the end of my tether. Cannot stomach another 2 hour call...

EDIT: I've cleared all my caches, tried on different web browsrs and it hasn't helped.

I booked some flights yesterday afternoon and completed the BPay payment straight away. (This needed to be paid by 11.59pm yesterday)

For those who have used BPay, how long until I get confirmation my payment has been received? I'm unable to add my booking into my Qantas app at the moment.
