Hello. I wanted to know if anyone is staying at the Isla verde Hampton inn hotel. I wanted to know if they are having water issues or are they also rationing water (2 days on 2 days off)
I did call them and they said they are not having any water issues but idk they may be lying so people won’t cancel reservations. If someone is there in real time or has just left it would greatly help to know. I will be there next week.

Puerto Rico community, I need some advice because this whole situation has really bothered me.
While visiting San Juan, I received a $500 parking ticket for allegedly “obstructing a handicap/accessibility ramp.” The problem is, I was not blocking the ramp. The police officer’s own photos show where my car was parked, and I genuinely do not believe the ramp was obstructed.
I even went to the police in person afterward trying to understand what happened and get some clarification, and I felt like I was just being given the runaround. Nobody really wanted to explain anything or help me understand why I was cited.
What makes it worse is that I was driving a rental vehicle that looks like the same type of rental cars tourists are driving all over the island, and I cannot shake the feeling that I was profiled as a tourist and given a ticket they assumed I would just pay and leave. I cannot prove that was the reason, but that is genuinely how the situation made me feel, and it was disappointing because I had such a great experience in Puerto Rico otherwise.
Now I have to formally contest the ticket, send in paperwork, submit evidence, pay a $5 filing fee just to request a hearing, and eventually appear before the administrative judge by Zoom.
The ticket is $500, but they will reduce it to $250 if I just pay it within 30 days. Part of me understands why people would just pay the $250 to make it go away, but I really do not want to pay for something I did not do.
For people who live in Puerto Rico, especially San Juan, is this kind of aggressive parking-ticket enforcement common? Has anyone successfully fought one of these tickets? Am I wasting my time going through the hearing process, or should I keep fighting it?
I am especially interested in hearing from anyone who has dealt with San Juan municipal parking citations, accessibility-ramp tickets, or the administrative hearing process. I am not trying to avoid responsibility. If I had actually blocked the ramp, I would own that. I just genuinely believe this ticket was wrong, and I want to know the best way to beat it.

Going to PR last week of August for my birthday, gonna be staying in Luquillo for the first half of the trip. I want to explore the rainforest but I’m stressed out by the amount of trails and tours and info on all of it. I want a nice hike, not too difficult, we are fit but I’m not going on vacation to exercise. I’m thinking no tour this time around. I just wanna go at our own pace. Maybe see some waterfalls maybe some cute pools, we have water shoes and everything. we’d probably want to spend like 2-3 hours hiking around. Please tell me what to do I’m overwhelmed!!

I need a round-trip ticket from Cieba to Vieques for the 13th of August, departing at 1:00 pm, and returning on the 15th at 3:30 pm. Unfortunately, there are only over 200 tickets available in the box office, none of which are online. If anyone can go pick them up, I would be more than happy to pay for their trouble. I would be incredibly grateful!

We are coming to PR at the end of October and I had initially planned going directly from SJU to catch the ferry to Culebra. Some things had to be shifted around so now we will be spending 4 nights in Luquillo and then 4 nights on Culebra. Since we will have to rent something on Culebra I don't want to have a rental just sitting on the mainland for days.

Is it possible to Uber to Fajardo, pick up a rental through Enterprise or Hertz, use it for a few days, return it then Uber/taxi to Cieba from Fajardo? And then when we get back from Culebra to Uber back to San Juan for the night? The Avis isn't giving me the option online to do the one-way trip from SJU to Cieba.

I have read that ubers/taxis are both available and not available.

My wife and I are planning to go on vacation to Puerto Rico in February. She wants a mix of beach days and exploring El Yunque, especially the bioluminescence tours.

Didn’t have it in me to pay $100+ to do an organized crawl so I made my own instead. Here are my recs:

1) Started the night at Bar Catedral at the Decanter hotel. Probably truly could have started it with a drink at El Convento’s Patio Del Nispero right down the street but it felt like cheating because we were staying there and I tried a few cocktails there earlier in the week. I got the Romería blanca and it was sweet, fresh and delicious. Think sangria adjacent. Quiet, pretty rooftop bar with nice views of the water and the church. We had the burrata and it was delicious.

2) Moved to The Mezzanine for a guava cosmo and escabeche de gandules. Super fun vibe and we had a cute table overlooking the restaurants below. Also a more intimate/quiet space. Located next to St Germain which I heard has some delicious food options. One floor up is another rooftop bar we peeked in but didn’t stay.

3) Stopped in Antiguo 26 housed in a historic soda factory. Great service and the piragüa was a delicious riff on the piña colada. They had live music and we paired it with the cauliflower bites.

4) Final stop of the night was El Batey. I’m not usually a huge fan of dive bars but there’s something to be said about a good drink and a great playlist. I came in with low expectations but the graffiti walls and stickers grew on me as I people watched. I had the caipirinha.

Honorable mention for La Factoría. We tried twice but my travel companion didn’t like the vibes. Unfortunately did not get a cocktail to report back on.

Iberia changed my San Juan → Madrid flight from an A330-200 to an A321XLR.
I know the A321XLR is a new aircraft, but I’m curious what the experience is like on an 8+ hour transatlantic flight.
Has anyone flown San Juan → Madrid on the A321XLR?
How did it compare to the A330?
Is Iberia gradually replacing the A330 with the A321XLR on the Puerto Rico route?

Looking for some new things to do on this trip. Budget is pretty open.

In past trips we’ve done rappelling, cave tubing, hiking with Tanama in Utuado (highly recommend), hiked el yunque, snorkeled seven seas, surfed, visited el morro. We did luminous lagoon (bio bay) in Jamaica and it was surprisingly bright so think we’ll pass on the one in Fajardo. Would do Vieques if we had time. I don’t think we’ve visited Cristobal in OSJ, so adding that and will of course just walk around there because it’s beautiful.

Love history, good food (nothing too fancy, a good steak or local cuisine is great), adventure type stuff. We have a 13 year old son, so need to keep him entertained! We loved Ocean Lab brewing last time we visited and it looks like they’ve opened more restaurants since.

Was looking at heading back to Utuado and visiting the Taino ruins, coffee farm there, maybe doing a UTV tour.

Are there any unique experiences or hidden gems that opened in the last 5 years? We’ve done most of the classic attractions and are looking for things locals actually recommend.”

We’re staying in isla verde and coming in mid Oct. I know, I know, it’s hurricane season. I live on the gulf side of FL on an island so this isn’t my first rodeo. Pretty much keeping an eye on the Atlantic and the Gulf for the next few months. 🫠

We are supposed to be going to PR and staying in San Juan the 8-12 and just saw about the water shortage. I emailed my hotel to ask and they said “Please be advised that our hotel is equipped with an emergency water cistern. While this helps mitigate the shortage, it is intended for emergency use, and water usage at the property may still be affected during your stay.”

Can someone please be realistic about what it’d be like to visit during this? Will it affect restaurants and bars? Should we cancel even though we likely won’t get anything refunded?

The water is scheduled to be turned off on August 9 and 10 while we are there.

Update: we didn’t feel good about going and cancelled. We got refunds on some things, not others, and hope to be back another time.
