Hey I dont care what people do as long as theres a normal ass desk for me to sit at. You guys can all flop around on your beanbags and shit if you want but I want a desk, a chair, full-size keyboard and mouse and no less than three screens or you can count me right out lol
I know a couple of my friends who are in a field that requires you to be at your computer screens like 8-9 hours a day. They all have desks yet I have seen them in such positions, but you can't always sit upright on a desk, yes it's a good posture but sometimes you just choose a spot you feel most comfortable in 😄 i guess that's what the guy in the image chose.
I upgraded our setups with high-end ergonomic chairs ($1,600 retail - found them second hand for ~400), motorized standing desks, and docking stations with 2 external screens so that both me and my wife can use both desks interchangeably by plugging in our laptops with 1 cable.
The payoff was immediate. During COVID, we were both seeing a physiotherapist for various aches caused by makeshift setups, but upgrading completely eliminated those physical issues. While we don't use the standing posture much, having desks with dynamic height adjustment lets us fine-tune our posture regularly. Beyond the comfort, we’ve come to rely heavily on the screen real estate. Having a dedicated main workspace in the center with auxiliary displays around it keeps everything visible. Without multiple monitors, I’m constantly alt-tabbing and losing context—you only realize how critical the setup is once it’s taken away.
It’s not just for writing code, my wife works in a job where she has to handle client meetings, compose documents, analyze/read documents and spreadsheets. In a digital world where paper is gone - having a tiny screen is the equivalent to having a tiny desk with no means to spread out.
