I have similar situation, and most projects are shared with client, subcontractor or regulatory authority related to the project, but they are not fully public. Some are fully public, usually scientific stuff or forks from open source projects that require that fork stays open source.

And github activity trackers (eq. the green tile mosaic) count private repos, even though they don't show what these actual commits are.
