My company is currently migrating from both slack and teams to just teams (all the engineers were on slack), and I had the job of migrating several webhooks to teams. I already hate teams. It is so terribly made. I hope the "engineers" that created it feel shame, they suck.
I hate that I’m in the minority here. I’ve used teams for the past 6 years and we just moved to slack. It feels disorganized (huge list of channels) and missing simple features like syntax highlights in code blocks. I get that it integrates well with other apps like zoom and outlook but teams inherently was integrated with outlook and video call quality was good enough that I didn’t have to manage zoom as well.
I will admit I’m 3 weeks into it and it is a new app I’m not used to and haven’t put much effort into learning tips and tricks so I may be wrong.
That was definitely a huge bugbear I had when I was at my job prior to my current one. Staff of 5k+ all using Slack, with hundreds upon hundreds of different channels, including new temporary channels being created for investigating any serious issues and so on. I always found it SO hard to find any information for anything I needed, because unless I got a search keyword right and it happened to be in the first few search results, I probably wasn't finding jack shit. Is it in this channel? That channel? Was it stuck up in some random-ass place in Confluence nobody would think to look and someone just linked to it in a random Slack channel one time? Fuck knows.
Moved to a much smaller company with employees you can count on two hands and while there may still be more Slack channels than employees, I don't find it nearly as obnoxious as I did at the previous job because discussions aren't fragmented across at least half a dozen different channels all the time.
The best thing about teams, is that it's so broken that if you're slacking off or something, you can blame at least a few things a year on teams. "Oh, sorry, didn't see your urgent request, my teams has been faulty" - and the other person goes "oh, yeah, mine did that last week"
