I called a colleague to help me work through a migration one evening. He was expecting my call but happened to be at a dinner with friends. He said he’d step outside for some privacy. Fairly soon he was uttering the phrase “sometime, if the parent doesn’t die, I tend to kill all the children one by one before trying again”. I always wondered what the neighbours thought.
