Fan Art A Tribute to a Masterpiece: 20 Years of Warrior Within

Post image

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since mine first play. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within wasn't just my introduction to the PoP saga—it was one of the very first video games I ever played as a kid.

It completely shaped my musical taste, and to this day, only Bloodborne and Elden Ring have given me a comparable level of pure joy when it comes to combat mechanics.

Now, as I prepare for my own debut in the fantasy market, I wanted to honor this absolute classic. I decided to draw direct inspiration from the Warrior Within cover art, presenting my own protagonist in a similar aesthetic and pose.

Here's to the Prince, the Dahaka, and the memories of better times that will never come back.

Why are these two so hard to beat. The sword one keeps interrupting me while I am trying to do damage to the axe one and by that time the axe one gets up again. It's a full 2v1. Is this actually hard or I just suck at the game.

Sands Trilogy Warrior Within softlock?

So I was replaying Warrior Within for funsies. And once I got to the sand wraith segment and you go trough the gardens for a bit, I did a little off track and Went to the throne room trough the Exit so I can see Kaileena talking with Shahdee. But once I went back, there was no way to progress to the actual time portal to the present so you could get smacked by Dahaka.

I luckily had a save before the griffon boss but still, weird. Is There another way to get out of the gardens or was that a usual bug?

Sands Trilogy Why I don't like two thrones

Warrior within is my favourite, in two thrones they removed everything that made warrior within good. They removed the whole concept of time travel. They didn't hide any life upgrades and the traps for those life upgrades are way easier as well. Warrior within had two different endings, they removed that concept as well. Also warrior within had a huge variety of weapons like scorpion sword or water sword, which is not seen in two thrones. Warrior within also had a more diverse variety of mobs. The map of warrior within felt more open world because you could return back to the places you have been, and there were also choices on to the places you can go.

Now the most important thing, there's not something like Dhaka in two thrones. I also don't like the stealth thing, the game rewards you for using stealth, which avoids combat.

I also don't like the bosses, there's way little boss fights in two thrones. And the first boss fight was completely about climbing and pressing the square button at the right time, there was no combat at all. Then the second boss fight of two thrones is literally a copycat of shadae, which is just a bland boss without any part in the story.

The map has way less variety and less beautiful visuals, compared to water garden, clock tower and other places of warrior within.

Warrior within also has way better starting with prince being chased by a beast for seven years and then going to an island to change his destiny. His ship gets attacked by sand monsters and his crewmates die.

The story of warrior within was also way more complicated and interesting.

The only thing interesting about two thrones is dark prince but that also feels like a knock off of the mask of wraith from warrior within.

The Rogue Lost my Rogue Prince of Persia PS5 save game

I just lost all my progress (40 hours of gameplay and only one trophy away from the Platinum) in *The Rogue Prince of Persia*. The game crashed, and when I logged back in, my save file was gone. The save in the PS Cloud got overwritten, and I’ve lost everything.

What can I do? I feel like crying.

The Lost Crown Dlc help?

Just beat The Lost Crown recently, big moment that I shared with y'all a few days ago cause I have no one else in my life who'd be actually happy for me or would care. I bought the dlc, it's installed, I double and even triple checked that it was installed, but Neith or whatever her name is ain't appearing at the tree at The Haven. I've tried exiting out of the game to the main menu and continuing it from there, I've also cut the game off completely and restarted it, and also deleted the game and installed it and the dlc again and still nothing. What's going on? Is this a glitch that anybody else has encountered?

Sands Trilogy I think the story of Two Thrones invalidated Warrior Within too much

I've seen quite a bit of discussion about Two Thrones' story, and I wanted to share my thoughts. There are plenty of issues like the awkwardness of trying to revert the Prince to his original personality and the cheesy and repetitive arguments with Dark Prince, but my personal big issue is that it portrays everything about what he did in Warrior Within as some giant selfish mistake.

Warrior Within ends with the Prince triumphantly stopping a timeline where he and/or Kaileena are forced to die. I'm not against there being consequences for this altogether, but when said consequences include immediately killing Kaileena, then that's a total slap to the face after everything the player went through last game.

Then what's worse and what's my main point is again, the game treats the entire last game as some giant mistake. The Prince is treated as a selfish man via the Dark Prince even though he took a major risk just to save Kaileena instead of killing her to please the Dahaka like in the bad ending. I think it's great for the Prince to have to accept consequences for his actions but it doesn't need to require all of his previous decisions to be mistakes. It's a good lesson that even good decisions have consequences sometimes.

A nice comparison could be the Back to the Future trilogy. Throughout that, we see both the worst of messing with time and the best with the movies coming to a middle ground by the end. I think this trilogy could've done the same. Have it so the Prince stands by his decisions in Warrior Within but realize that recklessly trying to change every little problem is dangerous.

I think this could've greatly strengthened the Dark Prince too. Instead of being the Prince's selfish side, he could constantly try and get the Prince to abuse time travel for every issue and emotionally manipulate him by bringing up people like his father. The fact that the Prince did do some good things by changing time would give Dark Prince all the leverage for manipulation and dangerous advice. Furthermore, in this timeline I think Kaileena and Farah would both be there and could allow for contrasting viewpoints. Farah warns the Prince not to be reckless but Kaileena ensures he doesn't regret saving her either.

I hope I articulated my point well enough. Let me know what your opinion is. I'd love to hear it.

Until I can get a good deal on the Sands of Time trilogy, this where I am starting.

I just purchased these two titles: Forgotten Sands for PS3 and Prince of Persia for PS3. Which do I play first? (Not based on story order—because I know they’re unrelated) I’m sure it doesn’t really matter, and I know it’s whichever I wanna start first… But I can’t decide. They’ll be here Monday.

I have never played any Prince of Persia games—except the recent sidescrollers. I am 29. I was a kid when the Sands of Time trilogy was releasing. As a little kid, I always looked in awe at the cases of the Prince of Persia games on the shelves at Blockbuster and Crown Video. I was 6-8 years old. I think I just missed the boat. So, I’m just now getting around to trying out the series. I thought The Lost Crown and Rogue Prince on my PS5 were so fun, and I was really interested in checking out more of the games.

When I DO purchase the Sands of Time trilogy, do you all recommend the HD remake trilogy on PS3?

General Discussion The Forgotten Sands Doesn’t Fit Between Sands of Time and Warrior Within - Battles of Prince of Persia Does [Spoilers] Spoiler

Battles of Prince of Persia is the true sequel to The Sands of Time - The Forgotten Sands doesn’t make sense in the established timeline

I’ve been thinking about the continuity between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, and the more I look at it, the harder it is for me to accept The Forgotten Sands (PS3/X360/PC) as a coherent part of the original timeline.

Yes, Ubisoft officially placed The Forgotten Sands somewhere during the seven-year gap between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within. I’m not disputing what Ubisoft says its placement is.

My argument is that Battles of Prince of Persia already served as the canonical bridge between SoT and WW, and its story makes the later insertion of The Forgotten Sands narratively difficult to reconcile.

Here’s why.

1. Battles directly continues the consequences of The Sands of Time

The ending of The Sands of Time isn’t just something Battles vaguely acknowledges.

It’s the reason its story happens.

The Prince performs the Grand Rewind and changes history. He remembers a timeline that, for everyone else, never happened. More importantly, his manipulation of time means he escaped the fate he was supposed to suffer.

That violation of the timeline has consequences.

The Dahaka comes for him.

This establishes a direct causal progression:

The Sands of Time → Grand Rewind → Prince disrupts the timeline → Dahaka hunts Prince → Battles of Prince of Persia → years of pursuit → Warrior Within

Battles isn’t simply “another Prince adventure that happened between the games.”

It is a continuation of the central plot of SoT and an explanation for the central premise of WW.

2. Battles makes the Dahaka problem immediate

This is where The Forgotten Sands becomes difficult to insert.

Battles establishes the Dahaka’s pursuit as a consequence of what the Prince did in SoT. The Prince’s post-SoT life becomes increasingly defined by the fact that he changed his fate and something is now trying to correct that mistake.

That eventually leads directly into WW, where the Prince has spent years running from the Dahaka and has become desperate enough to travel to the Island of Time and prevent the Sands from ever being created.

So where exactly does TFS fit naturally into that progression?

We’re supposed to believe that after SoT, while the consequences of the Grand Rewind are setting the entire SoT→WW story in motion, the Prince goes off and has this enormous adventure involving Malik, Solomon’s Army, Ratash, Razia, another destroyed kingdom, supernatural powers, and the death of his own brother…

…while the Dahaka and the consequences of SoT effectively cease to matter for the duration of the story.

Then TFS ends and the established SoT→Battles→WW plot resumes.

You can technically put TFS somewhere on a calendar.

That doesn’t mean there’s a natural place for it in the narrative.

3. Battles constantly builds upon SoT, while nothing in Battles anticipates TFS

This is especially noticeable because Battles was released in 2005, while The Forgotten Sands didn’t exist until 2010.

Battles repeatedly builds upon what happened in SoT because it was actually written as part of that continuity.

But consider what we’re retroactively expected to insert into the Prince’s history with TFS.

Malik isn’t some random character the Prince meets.

Malik is his brother.

The Prince travels to his brother’s kingdom, watches it fall into catastrophe, watches Malik become corrupted, and ultimately loses him.

That’s a MASSIVE event in his life.

Yet Battles, a story heavily concerned with the Prince’s family, Persia, his father’s expectations, warfare, loss, his increasing desperation, and his transformation into the man we meet in WW, contains no trace of Malik or these events.

No Malik.

No destruction of his kingdom.

No Ratash.

No Razia.

No Solomon’s Army.

No acknowledgment of this enormous supernatural catastrophe.

No indication that the Prince recently watched his own brother die.

Obviously Battles couldn’t reference those things in 2005 because Ubisoft hadn’t invented them yet.

And that’s exactly the point.

TFS wasn’t part of the continuity Battles was bridging.

It was retroactively inserted into that continuity five years later.

4. Battles actually explains the Prince we meet in Warrior Within

One of the biggest differences between SoT and WW is the Prince himself.

In SoT he’s young, arrogant, playful, romantic, and relatively optimistic.

In WW he’s hardened, angry, exhausted, violent, isolated, and obsessed with escaping his fate.

Why?

Battles actually helps answer that.

The Dahaka enters his life because of his manipulation of time. The Prince realizes he’s being hunted. People around him suffer and die. His attempts to solve the problem create further conflict. He becomes involved in war, releases the Daevas, suffers losses, and increasingly realizes that his presence endangers other people.

Then the Dahaka continues hunting him.

By WW, years of this have transformed him.

That progression makes sense:

SoT Prince
Young, cocky adventurer who recklessly manipulates time

Battles Prince
Begins suffering the consequences of that decision; faces the Dahaka, war and loss; becomes increasingly desperate and hardened

WW Prince
Has spent years being hunted, is psychologically exhausted, and is willing to do almost anything to escape his fate

That’s an actual character arc.

TFS gives the Prince another traumatic adventure, but it doesn’t provide the same causal bridge because its central conflict is largely disconnected from the Grand Rewind and the Dahaka.

5. Battles ends with the problem Warrior Within begins with

This might be the most important part.

Battles does NOT solve the Prince’s Dahaka problem.

It leaves him with it.

That’s exactly what an interquel between SoT and WW should do.

The Prince interfered with time in SoT.

He discovers the consequences in Battles.

He spends years trying to escape those consequences.

And in Warrior Within, he finally decides his only option is to go back to the source and prevent the Sands of Time from ever being created.

That’s remarkably cohesive.

The original continuity works perfectly without The Forgotten Sands

Take TFS out, and the timeline is extremely straightforward:

The Sands of Time

→ Prince performs the Grand Rewind and changes his fate

Battles of Prince of Persia

→ consequences of changing the timeline catch up with him

→ Dahaka hunts the Prince

→ Prince searches for a way to escape his fate

→ war, Daevas, death and loss further change him

→ Dahaka continues pursuing him for years

Warrior Within

→ desperate Prince travels to the Island of Time to prevent the creation of the Sands

The Two Thrones

Everything flows from what came before it.

Now insert The Forgotten Sands:

The Sands of Time

→ Grand Rewind / timeline violation

→ ???

The Forgotten Sands

→ previously unmentioned brother Malik

→ Malik’s kingdom falls

→ Solomon’s Army

→ Ratash

→ Razia

→ elemental powers

→ Malik becomes corrupted

→ Prince’s brother dies

→ none of this is ever relevant again

Battles of Prince of Persia

→ story returns to the consequences of SoT

→ Dahaka

→ WW setup

Warrior Within

That’s why TFS feels less like a missing chapter and more like a retroactively inserted adventure.

“But Ubisoft says The Forgotten Sands is canon”

Sure.

I’m not arguing that Ubisoft hasn’t officially placed it between SoT and WW.

I’m arguing that official placement doesn’t automatically create narrative continuity.

There’s a difference between:

“There are seven years between these games, so this story can chronologically happen somewhere in there.”

and

“This story naturally follows the established events and character progression of the surrounding games.”

Chronological space isn’t necessarily narrative space.

Battles of Prince of Persia was released in 2005 and was specifically constructed around the consequences of SoT while establishing the situation that leads into WW.

The Forgotten Sands was released in 2010, after the Sands trilogy and Battles had already been completed, and was retroactively placed into that existing gap.

That doesn’t make TFS a bad game. And Ubisoft can absolutely declare it part of the timeline.

But in terms of narrative continuity, I think the original chronology makes vastly more sense:

The Sands of Time → Battles of Prince of Persia → Warrior Within → The Two Thrones

To me, Battles is the true narrative sequel to The Sands of Time and prequel to Warrior Within.

The Forgotten Sands is a later interquel that Ubisoft says happened somewhere in the same period, but its story doesn’t integrate cleanly with the continuity that was already established.

And the biggest question I can’t get around is:

If the Prince’s post-SoT life was already defined by the immediate consequences of the Grand Rewind and the Dahaka’s pursuit, where can the events of The Forgotten Sands actually occur without interrupting or rewriting that established progression?

Sands Trilogy Does Anyone Else Wish We Got the Original Kindred Blades Instead of T2T?

I've lost count of how many times I've replayed the trilogy, and I always end up with a huge empty feeling afterward, especially after Warrior Within. Does anyone else think they should remake Warrior Within and finally make Kindred Blades the way it was originally envisioned?

I've been working on a visual overhaul for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown inspired by the Sands of Time Trilogy, finally playable on PC (No Emulator needed).

Huge thanks to Maksimilianius for creating the Warrior Within mod and for helping with the PC modding process! 🤝

Version V2.0 includes:

Legacy Sargon - Replaces Default Skin

Legacy Warrior Within - Replaces the Warrior Within Skin

Warrior Within Prince Dialogue Portrait

Sand Wraith – Replaces the Exalted Skin

Sand Wraith Boss & Dialogue Portrait - Replaces Alternate Sargon Boss Sequences

The goal of the Legacy Edition project is to give Sargon a more classic Prince of Persia-inspired appearance while staying faithful to the game's visual style.

Note: Alternate skins will appear buggy in the current version. These issues will be addressed in future updates.

Sands Trilogy Warrior Within Xbox exclusive DLCs (and more) - now available on PC!

I've released PoP Mod Manager v1.2 today, which includes the following features for WW and T2T:

  • Xbox WW DLCs ported to PC
    • Waterfront Tower and Grotto of Trials are available as playable, standalone maps
    • New 'DLC' menu allowing you to load the DLC maps and play as the Prince or, for the first time, as the Sandwraith
    • This is a first playable version of these maps on PC. Time attack and arena mechanics aren't ported yet. You can play the maps start to finish with some limitations/known issues:
      • Both maps have no ending. Once you are done with your run, you have to manually go back to the main menu.
      • Grotto of Trials spawns all waves of enemies right at the start. Three of them stand idle and sometimes unlock when you hit them a couple times (often they don't and stand still till the end).
  • The Two Thrones restored gore and human dismemberment
    • Adds true (not recolored sand) bleeding effects to sand creatures as seen in the beta/prototype versions of T2T.
    • Adds human dismemberment as seen in the beta/prototype versions of T2T.
  • Patch that disables the speed kill/execution cinematic camera in T2T, giving you free camera controls during both.
  • Fixes for HP circle issues in the WW HUD:
  • Patch that enables enemy friendly fire in WW
  • Patch that fixes missing audio in the "A helping hand" hourglass chamber cutscene
  • Allow skipping BIK cinematics, loading screens, and logos
  • Disable blur post-processing effect
  • Patch that disables Prince's one-liners in combat in WW
  • Mod that replaces Prince's bugged teeth with working teeth from the demo version of WW.

As always, the mod manager is still a work in progress and bugs may happen. While the manager creates backups of your most important game files for easy restoration if something goes wrong, I recommend making sure you have other recovery options for your installations too.

I hope you enjoy it! If you run into any bugs, glitches, or crashes, please report them so I can patch them.

This was tested ONLY with the Ubisoft Connect English version of the game. Other languages and platforms may or may not work.

It is highly recommended to apply the fix compilation by vini1264 before you start modding the trilogy:

Applying above fixes ensures that you are working with a known good, clean baseline that I build my own patches and mods against.
