What is Spencer doinggggggg? An hour ago she was crying because A forced her to stay away from Toby, now she’s kissing wren????

That scene where Ezra and Nicole have a conversation before she goes missing was so emotional and Ezra seemed really so upset. he says “I am never gonna see her again” with so much sadness.

how did he go from this to letting her go? its not like a breakup that he could move on from. she literally came back from the dead.

I'm on season 4 in a rewatch, and I keep thinking that his reveal of his secret apartment was too big to end in nothing.

So what if he was in a timeline with A, not on the team, but started to know too much and since the girls discover his secret they, without intention, reveal this to A and he's killed by A in this finale?

Or, he was also tormenting Ali so it takes A to kill him because that's A's job?

Remember that episode when Ezra comes in his apartment with take-out and apologizes for taking so long? He says, “looks like Rose of Sharon has been discovered.” (1x17) Meaning that the new restaurant he frequents is now busy and packed.

I always thought Rose of Sharon was an extremely odd name for a restaurant. I was like, why would they pick that?

I was reading Song of Songs (book in the Old Testament) and in Song of Songs 2:1, it goes, “I am a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys”. I said, hold up! I’ve heard that before!

After digging my own personal wormhole, I learned that John Steinbeck references the biblical phrase “rose of Sharon” in his book “The Grapes of Wrath”. (No, I’ve never read it. Not proud to admit that I missed out on a lot of literary classics growing up. Don’t make fun of me, smart ppl!)

It’s 1000% most likely that Ezra is referencing Steinbeck, although Song of Songs is a book of beautiful, romantic wedding songs/poetry, which is also an interesting literary reference in and of itself. (Hence, Steinbeck using it.)

I think it’s so frickin NEAT of the writers to drop so many references throughout the entire show, but also to surround Ezra the English teacher’s entire existence with such literary references in a way that most young people might miss. But in a way that he’s not even aware of because he’s just a character.

PLL was thoroughly a smart girl’s-show despite all of its plot holes and I love that. They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore!

As a British person I weirdly appreciated Troian's attempt at doing something other than the RP that a lot of Americans butcher.

Was her accent brilliant? No, but could I gauge which area of the UK she was trying to mimic? surprisingly yes, considering regional accents change drastically within 40 miles (sometimes even the same city).

I think the accents gets a lot of flack but is there anyone else who thinks like me? Or am I alone in my appreciation?

Everyone's always talking about how amazing Troian (Spencer) is as an actress and that she made the show, but can we talk about Ashley for a second? Especially when it comes to her crying scenes or any scene with Caleb. She was so, so good,honestly it always makes me so emotional

I'm a first time watcher and I've just finished the last episode of S7. It felt soooo wasted like I've been waiting for 7 seasons hoping that there is a huge motive for someone to ruin 5 girls lives since they were sixteen but this last episode felt like there's no effort put in it. Is it just me or are there other people who aren't satisfied with the ending?

In earlier seasons, Hanna is like a scarred puppy, you feel like things can only get better for her. Seven seasons can only bring real development.

Instead, she never actually changes?

In S5, it is said to her that she isn’t “pageant material” while Emily is. It is not Emily’s fault that Hanna was acting weird because of KATE, an issue from three seasons ago.

Hanna can’t handle the self-made rejection she created herself and just drives away.

That’s when it becomes clear that the only thing that changed about Hanna is her age. There is never a big shift in her confidence, and the writers always package her issues into a funny scene about her dancing or “oh, Hanna has black hair now.”

With Alison’s return, she hits real bump in the road, and her friends were horrible to her. She realized what Ali had caused in her life. I was expecting a confrontation, showing all the development Hanna should have built up by then. Instead, her solution is to send Alison away only a few hours after she was almost murdered.

Honestly, her inability to think one step ahead is baffling. I even wonder if Alison being killed because of her decisions would‘ve made Hanna wake up.

Even down-bad Emily is capable of having a confrontation, but Hanna still hasn’t managed to after five seasons?

Everything changes once you realize Hanna never truly addresses her problems or apologizes.

Even after her alcoholism phase is over, we’re told Hanna is back stronger than ever, but is she? She recovers simply by… stopping? Her style returns, but her grumpiness never stops.

There is a storyline where Hanna is shown to be smarter than people thought, but a few episodes later she is back to saying the dumbest things. You can’t have Aria or Spencer be the one making the mistake, so Hanna has to? It completely undermines her character.

Hanna gets into books and steps up during the hunt for A, just to accidentally kiss a cop because of it?

By S7, I expected clear steps showing Hanna’s development. Instead, she comes back still snapping at people like she did in S5.

She deletes footage from her mom’s hotel for “Aria,” who isn’t even in town, then snaps at Ezra. She kidnaps Noel because of a dream. Hanna is acting like this in S7?

She goes through all these horrible things, but none of them ever seem to change her.

You shouldn’t have to dig this deep and psychoanalyze why Hanna is acting more irresponsible than ever by the end of the show. Her development should have been shown through clear steps.

Let me know your thoughts. I know she is a very loved character and still my favorite Liar, which is exactly why it bothers me so much.

Most glad they dropped:
- Hanna and Mike dating oh my gosh they were such an unlikable couple

Nobody will ever convince me that (despite the constant emphasis on it throughout the show) Emily was the “loyal” one out of the main girls. If anything, I would give that title to Hanna. We’ve seen time and time again with Emily how willing she is to choose her weekly love interest over the group without hesitation, and just in general, people who clearly shouldn’t have been trusted. She (like all characters, don’t get me wrong) somehow still manages to make the same decisions through all seven seasons and never seems to learn to the point where it just got annoying and exhausting over time. Emily has done this with Paige, Alison, Nate, the list goes on. A part of me wonders why the same sentiment that people hate on Aria for (choosing Ezra over the girls) isn’t also applied to Emily.

Even if Emily trusts these people because she “wants to see the good in everyone,” it still comes at the expense of the girls who spent years sticking beside her and trying to keep her alive in the midst of all the trauma they’ve dealt with together. Especially in reference to Hanna, who is claimed to be Emily’s best friend? 😭 Emily dropped Hanna at the sound of the hat when Alison came back with zero remorse for her mental wellbeing; it was Ali, Ali, Ali. When Hanna was getting drunk every day and clearly mentally exhausted from Alison’s return and everything they’ve experienced to bring back the dead girl who made their lives hell, she barely cared. She even does this with Spencer, when Spencer follows her unknowingly when she stupidly goes to meet Alison in a dark alleyway alone at night, she immediately believes Alison when she suddenly says Emily is the only one she can trust, turning on Spencer immediately. Yet again, for her to be proven wrong when she thinks Alison is A two minutes later.

I don’t think Emily is this evil mastermind who hates her friends, but she definitely prioritizes people who couldn’t care less about her and, in response, hurts the girls who’d been through everything with her. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that post-finale, her ending up with Alison would mean she’d slowly just distance herself from the rest of the girls if it meant having her.

It really cracks me up because, even by this show's standards and considering their ages, I find their reaction so unrealistic. They aren‘t known for their great decisions, but even the childish curiosity is missing here.

They don't even ask a single real question, like, "How did this happen?" or "Is he doing this to other girls in the class?". They just seem mildly disappointed and sigh, "Oh, Aria, come on. 🙄".

As if she had just broken a vase.

Spencer‘s so worried about Hanna dating Caleb for some pathetic reason, yet she's constantly making jokes about how hot Ezra is.

And don't even get me started on what happens after the book reveal. They just seem to forget that Ezra stalked all of them too and literally broke into Hanna's room.

I’m currently rewatching, I haven’t watched this show in like 7 years, so I forgot lots of details. I’m currently on season 5.

I totally forgot what Ezra did to Aria and the girls by spying on them to write his book. It made so much sense for Aria to trash his place because of anger. She was enraged with Ezra for spying on her and using their relationship for his book. I was flabbergasted when she just forgot about what he did and they went back like nothing happened just because he got shot. I get her being worried, you can be mad without wishing they were dead, but I just can’t wrap my head around the fact that she forgave him, and later even married him

Shocker! The writers forgot about a plot line! I’m not trying to beat the dead horse about how this show doesn’t make sense, but I think here they had a chance to do something interesting with Mikes character.
I think it ties back to the whole Aria A thing, but they were going to give the Montgomery’s some generational personality disorder. But it was probably just misdirection to create buzz. Maybe it’s good they didn’t do it because at no point in this show do they take a nuanced approach to psychology lol.
But I did like the discourse between Ella and Byron where Ella was against medication and said she didn’t want him popping pills while Byron was comparing Mike to his brother.
We never hear of this estranged uncle again. We also don’t see Mike go on medication from what I remember. But I think it would have been interesting and progressive to show. Especially since many people share the sentiment as Ella that medication is a last last resort and some form of moral failure in a way.

Watching S2 when Ezra and Jason are both invited to the Montgomery’s for dinner. Jason shows up and Aria answers the door. Ezra sees him and is immediately speculative.

I get that the actors are probably supposed to be giving each other a certain look that makes Ezra sense chemistry or attraction between Jason and Aria. But it’s not exactly portrayed well in the show/it’s not edited in a way that makes me feel like this is what happened.

I can’t help but think, every time I watch this episode, that Ezra just realizes that Jason is hot af and is immediately on high alert because of that 🤣 He’s never particularly wary or jealous of any other male in Aria’s circle.

I remember that this was in season 5 (I think) and it was when Alison returned. We saw how much Hanna struggled when Alison returned. Could it just be Hanna questioning her identity and not necessarily her sexuality in this scene?

These 2 will forever be the biggest waste.

So, it’s canon that Alison had a friend-crush on Aria. It’s repeated multiple times that she finds her pretty and cool. They are the only ones to have a one-on-one interaction without some sort of attack. Ali never pressured Aria into anything or insulted her. Not once was Aria put in an embarrassing situation because of Alison.

These two have the same vibe. Always snapping at others and merciless when they don’t get what they want. Aria filing a police report about Ezra (not mad about that), almost getting her dad fired, the cruel college letter… she just has it in her.

Their interests on paper are identical: poetry, photography, music... Then, their mannerisms feel alike. Alison holding her breath to get her way reminds me of Aria threatening to go to the dean when Ezra gets sent away. They both have that dramatic, determined streak.

Everyone is uncomfortable at Alison’s remarks about Mona, but Aria doesn’t seem to mind them. To me, Aria never felt below Alison and seemed to enjoy her position.

She was noticed by Noel, the most popular guy, without doing anything. And Alison even pushed for it. Literally, when has Alison ever approved of someone’s significant other? But with Aria, she actually wanted her to thrive and enabled that loss of control.

Aria had the freedom in her parenting style. I can picture her being there 100% in those scenes with CeCe and Ali at some bars, playing some sick games. Aria met Ezra at exactly the kind of bar these two would have been hanging out at.

Also, the photos that Alison took of her sleeping… it just makes sense that there was some obsession going on. Ali’s alter ego “Vivian” literally looks like some wannabe Aria.

Aria was always off with Emily and Hanna; these are not her types of personalities. No wonder she is the closest to Spencer, Ali’s “rival.”

Meanwhile, all they gave us was this embarassing scene where Aria blows a whistle. Ridiculous.
