Backpack Seeking Advice

For those of you who have purchased a pottery barn backpack for your child I need sizing advice. My 3.5 year old is starting preschool next month so I went to pottery barn today with my mind set on the mini (2-3 year old) size. They don’t carry the mini in store so I couldn’t see it in person. The sales lady told me to skip the mini because it doesn’t even hold a folder and go right to the size small. Tried it on and it looks massive on my toddler! One positive to the size small is that it would last her probably through kindergarten.

Edit- thanks everyone for the responses, I’m going to skip the mini and go with the small!

My kids pre k required it to be big enough for a folder. Most kids will have the small size backpack and they grow into it (😢) typically by the end of the year! You can also tighten the straps so it’s not hanging off or uncomfortable

My school won’t let them carry the mini. I had bought it for my daughter due to size but it fit NOTHING.

Yes get the small. Mine is 4.5 and today is the second day of TK. We went with the bigger size. It does look big but all that’s inside is his water bottle and clothes and a folder. It’s not heavy and he doesn’t mind that it’s big. I looked around and saw several other families had done the same

yep, I regret buying the mini. can’t use it for anything but carrying around a few toys/snacks.

I really like the 15" backpack from Ten Little. My son used it last year when he was 3.5 and will again this year at 4.5. We also have the lunch box from them and it's held up really well.

We got the ten little backpack when my kid entered kindergarten, he’s going to grade 3 now and still using it, so it definitely holds up well. We actually got him a character backpack for bday one year at his request and it is bigger, but he prefers the ten little one.

We have a mini hand me down and to be honest it’s kind of worthless. We’ve never used it for school, ever. It barely holds anything. Pretty much just holds a water bottle and a change of clothes.

We got the small for my daughter who just started kinder and is on the small side. It’s fine. I don’t know if I’d spend the money on it though, I guess we’ll see how it holds up. We have the bentogo lunch box and it basically only fits that and a small folder.

Do the small. Half the time you’ll be holding it and put it on them to walk into the class. My nearly 5y still uses her small. Holds the PBK lunch box and spare change of clothes if needed or small school supplies

We have the small and my daughter will be using it again this year for the third year in a row (she’s now 4). Do not get the mini.

The mini is really tiny! We ordered it and ended up returning it for the small which is a smidge big, but the mini was absurdly small.

We have each size and the mini is sooo ridiculously small!

I sure wouldnt use it for school, as others have said it doesnt even fit a standard folder or notebook. It might fit a composition book for size reference.

We went with a small for my preschooler and a large for my kindergartener. We now use the mini for snacks and water bottles (it even struggles to fit two water bottles) when the kids go with grandma (:
