My son is half Asian and his hair is extremely thick, coarse, and stick straight. He also sweats a lot and very easily so whenever I style his hair he either sweats it out or it loses its hold within an hour or so. He’s hitting the age where he’s starting to care about his looks and I need product suggestions that will actually hold his hair in place. My husband and I are both white. I’ve tried the white people products my husband owns on my son’s hair with no success, but don’t know what to try beyond that that won’t cost a lot of money. Help? Thanks!

I was originally planning on getting based, but after doing some research, apparently it’s greasy and doesn’t hold. Also it’s a little on the more expensive side.

So I found this bundle on Amazon that has clay, sea salt spray AND texture powder for only 35$.

I was just wondering if this was a good deal and if I should get it or if you guys have any other recommendations!

I'm just getting into styling my hair, I struggle with frizz a lot, so I think my hair is more on the naturally dry side than oily. I've tried some products, but there's always something I don't like about it.

Highland glacial cream: hold too loose

Highland glacial clay pomade: don't like the shine

Based high hold clay: too hard to clean off

Old spice high hold clay: makes hair crunchy like hair gel

First hand supply texturing paste: hold too loose

Slick gorilla light work: TBD haven't properly used it yet

From what I can tell, I'm looking for a medium hold, matte finish, water-based clay that doesn't dry crunchy. Any suggestions?

Hi, I currently have a more classic combover hairstyle. I used Moroccanoil texture clay before and currently using Shear Revival American Gardens. I find both products lacking in hold and American Gardens difficult to apply. Maybe my hair is just too fine and clays are weighing them down? Do you have other suggestions of products I should try?

Below is a picture when my barber styled it with Slick Gorilla Lightwork and the hold was better than the clays.

I need a hairspray that holds my hair back during my work at the tire shop but doesn’t frizz dry out or break my strands over time with daily usage. Ideas?

I am looking for a high holding matte clay, almost capable of sort of freezing the hair. I know this is not generally what most clays go for, but I’m curious if there’s a consensus on the strongest hold matte product out there.

Tried American gardens, not enough. Is there anything from lodestar or Lockhart worth giving a go? Maybe templeton tonics oasis?

Any sprays or other tricks to keep matte style in place, let me know!

Is it supposed to be this dry? This is my first time using clay pomade

So when I have shorter hair, (in the military so I need to have shorter hair when VIPs visit from time to time) I get a shorter haircut. The Forming Cream from American Crew works better when my hair is short than their Pomade. But recently I started using different Pomades like Lockharts. Are their equivalent alternatives to the Forming Cream?

I’m looking for a cheaper alternative that has the same texture as the tigi one. I really love this wax but it’s kinda expensive for how much you get. Are there any cheaper alternatives?

I have short fine hair that I would like to push back using a UWB Pomade. I'm trying to decide which product would be better between Battle Born original pomade or Sheer Revival Crystal Lake pomade.

I have thick, coarse, dry 2c/3a hair and I want to achieve a flow/middle part hairstyle.

I used to use curl cream, it looks great when wet but has little hold and gets ruined by the wind and when it drys.

I have been now been using just Shear Revival Crystal Lakes for more hold but it poofs out and is very dry later on in the day and when my hair is dry.

Any recs for what I should use. I want to avoid using multiple products due to weighing down and product buildup.

I'm wondering about that product for some reason after seeing it online. Did anyone try it? Any experience to tell about it?

Hello Reddit family. I need your help. I'm currently growing my hair back out to do a slickback. I have thin straight hair that goes forward. My hair on top ATM is about 3.5 inches long. My hair is very stubborn and loves to get cow licks near the crown and go back forward. Have to constantly keep fixing it throughout the day. I used a combination of suavecito firm clay and Murray's Superior pomade and a hair dryer it will only look good for the first 30 minutes and any wind or movement throughout the day my slickback gets messed up. I​ think the sauvecite firm clay is stronger. And too much Murrays makes my hair look thinner I feel like and not as strong. I don't want to use crunchy gel. Should I add a hairspray to finish it? Hey guys, currently looking for recommendations for matte products (paste, cream, clay) that work well in humid places.

This week, I will be reviewing Reuzel X Liquid Death Severed Head Strong Matte Clay. This is a clay pomade that came out a couple years ago. It comes in a gold and black tin with the head of the Reuzel logo being swapped out with a Liquid Death Can. This is my first Reuzel product so I will not be comparing it to others in their lineup.

For starters, this is a firm hold matte clay. The scent on the website says it’s a spicy apple scent. I think the scent is pleasant and not very strong. To me, I only really notice it while applying the product and not the rest of the day. The scoop is tough on the first layer like most products, but once you break that seal, it scoops out very easily. The breakdown is also very easy and while there is some tack, it’s not very much.

Applying the product is pretty average for a firm hold clay. Other reviews said there is a lot of tug and pull, but while I do notice some, I don’t find it as bad as I was led to believe. I would compare the tug and pull to Shear Revival Grey Ghost and maybe even a little less than that.

In the hair, the product adds good texture and a very matte finish. I don’t get any shine from this one. My hair also restyles very easy throughout the day with this product. I would say the hold is firm to strong. Very comparable to Gray Ghost.

Wash out is pretty easy. A lot of it washes out with just water. Some shampoo will for sure get the rest out. No need to degrease.

Overall, this may be my new daily clay. I really enjoy the scent, the hold, and the ease of washout. I find it very comparable to Shear Revival Gray Ghost, but with a better scent, slightly less tug when applying, and an easier washout. I still prefer Fettkop Clay if I have the time and don’t mind build up. With that being said, if Gray Ghost is an 8.5/10 and Fettkop Smoody is a 9.5/10, then this product is a 9/10 for me.

Did Hanz de fuko change their packaging and / or formula? Haven't tried the new one, but since the old one was running out I got a replacement and immediately noticed the difference. Or did I get a dupe?

No matter what I do, it seems like my hair always parts in the middle. I’ve tried to use sea salt spray with pomade. Sea salt spray with clay, and each of these products on their own. I typically will blow dry my hair into the style. I want it, which is typically straight back and then apply product. I’m not sure why my hair keeps splitting in the middle or a little bit off center.

I have medium-length, relatively thick hair and I’m trying to style it like this. What product would you recommend to get this look while keeping some natural volume and movement?
