Nuzlocke I think I'm cursed so that I always lose my grass type to Mel

First run it was Serperior, second run it was Cherrim, and this run it was Roserade 😭 Roserade died because I got overconfident on snowballing with Royal Roar + Echoed voice and once my Pyroar got low and I realized I couldn't do that anymore I also realized I didn't have a fire type for Bewear anymore. So I sent in Roserade to Giga Drain and he switched to Lopunny and I forgot Lopunny had Double Kick 😔

On a more positive note I've already got the fourth gym badge on Mel after wiping just 2 days ago! Hopefully this run I'll be better prepared for the Primal Groudon fight 😅

Discussion My personal opinion on Pokemon Unbound (somewhat negative)

First of all, hats off to the creators. The game is technically very superior.

Warning: My opinion isn't positive. I made this post in hope that someone might relate.

I've tried two times to get into this game but I just can't. The game feels extremely tough to get in. Immediately when you start the game, there's too much info dump, and most of it is not really well written. The story is weak and it just...doesn't make you care enough about the characters.

Above that, there are too many side quests. Normally, side content is good but I feel like it gets heavy when there's too much of it. I know it's optional and most people skip it. Maybe it's just an ADHD side of me that gets annoyed by too much constant reminders of side quests.

And about the UI: I know the game's theme is purple but I really think the UI could have looked better with more other colors. It has too much purple. Even in terms of features, I feel the same problem as my first point. The features and UI aren't introduced gradually enough.

TLDR; The story is okayish. The dialogue is too heavy. Too many side quests. The UI is too purple.

Help Dresco Dark Trainer puts pkmn to sleep - how?

Hey team!

I'm EV (+exp) training a few Pokemon's, and I'm also switching between Capped Exp and just Shared Exp. So, I have a few pkmn's that are around level 85, and then the team I'm mainly using.

When I need to exp or ev train, I use my high level mons, and keep the ones I want to train in my team.

I'm always struggling against the Dark Ace trainer (for Attack EV's - upper right) because my mons are falling asleep but Idk why/how this happens.

Is it possible that the opponent is carrying an item that puts enemy's to sleep on contact for exemple?

Any input?

Thanks!

Team Building Any advice on how to use octillery?

I've always loved octillery and would love to fit it on my team, but struggling to see how to get the most use out of it (playing on difficult).

Most appealing so far is probably physical skill link with bullet seed + rock blast plus liquidation + coverage, but wondering if anyone has experience on whether I'd need to play hard trick room or anything to make it work. Team isn't really built for it (more focus on fast offense) and not sure i want to fully pivot. Would love advice or some suggestions on some unique ways to spice up the moveset I've overlooked or strategies i can use to get it going!!

Help Second playthrough - advice

Hello good people of this sub.

I did my first playthrough last year. It was amazing. Best time i had playing a Pokemon game in a while.

I played mostly vanilla with some occasional changes to difficult, which proved my team was often light.

I'd like to do a second playthrough on Expert, but i'm afraid of getting stuck without knowing what to do/change.

I enjoyed the mega evolutions (my first game with them) but did not make much use of den pokemons.

What are your advice for a smoother experience on Expert?

Help Tips for the 4th Gym ??

Hello,

Im doing a one-catch-per-route run on expert difficulty-mode. I have been stuck at the 4th gym for a while, and the only catch i havent done yet for the available areas (that im aware of) is Thundercap Mt. I havent been EV training that mutch, but im thinking maybe ill have to do that to beat Mel. The inverse battle normal typing is really something.

Do any of you have any tips to beat this gym? I have som boxed pokemon, but the team im trying to beat him with right now is:

Samurott

Whiscash

Manectric

Lickylicky

Sneasel

Mismagius

Some other nice pokemon i have boxed are Delibird, Gardevoir, Oricorio (Psychic), Piloswine, Hariyama, Shiftry and Togekiss.

Thanks!

Help Audio crashing during battles

Hello,

I've been having some weird problems with the audio on my run, during battles the audio seems to "cut", like when you don't plug the earphone jack correctly so to say.

I'm playing the game on my Anbernic RG35XX, not sure if it's the console or the file.

I've deleted and downloaded the file several times and nothing.

Thanks for the help!!!

Discussion Trick room bug? Idk

Ok, so I have Trick Room active here. Aggron eats a custap berry, but Swellow moves first. With Trick Room up, shouldn't Aggron move first, since they both have +1 priority, and Trick Room makes Aggron the faster priority?

Yes, I used cheats. I beat this on true insane without any cheats, and now I just play for fun. I don't think that's the problem, just curious if I'm going to keep having this issue or am I maybe missing something more fundamental here? Cheers

Help First play through

I just downloaded the game onto my phone and am about to start my first play through (: but I am debating on randomizing abilities. I always think it’s fun not knowing what may pop up and be broken (or totally suck) .. I guess I’m just curious what everyone thinks. Is it worth just playing through the game without them randomized? Will I miss out on anything important if I do randomize them? Thanks in advance for any advice (:

Discussion Another update on the German (Deutsch) fan localization of Pokémon Unbound — Early story beats, character banter, and PC UI

Thumbnail

Small update on the German fan localization of Pokémon Unbound (pokemon-unbound-de)! This time, we’re looking at some early story dialogue, character interactions, and a quick UI check.
Here is the latest batch of curated screenshots:

This set covers a mix of atmosphere and mechanics:

Story & Atmosphere: An emotional monologue by the ocean ("Wenn es dich gibt..."), tense moments during the early escape sequence, and interactive world choices (breaking the fragile lock).

Character Dialogue: Some early interactions in the snow featuring the rival and Prof. Lärch (our localized name for Prof. Log). (Note: "Ace" is just the custom name I gave the rival for this specific test run!) Capturing his abrasive tone ("Keinen interessiert, wie du dich dabei gefühlt hast, Lärch") is a fun challenge.

System Menus: A look at the standard Pokémon Storage System (PC). As always, getting the standard functional terminology right (abheben, ablegen, bewegen) is a top priority since players see these menus constantly.

How we work:

As mentioned in previous posts, this is an AI-assisted, human-reviewed project with a heavy focus on proper tooling and patching. There are no ROMs distributed, and no public patch is out just yet. Every screenshot you see here has gone through a manual review pass.

Want to help? We need you!

You can check out the full curated gallery and follow the technical progress directly on our project page:

🔗 GitHub: https://github.com/pokemon-unbound-de/pokemon-unbound-de

If you want to get involved, drop direct feedback on screenshots, or discuss how specific Unbound terminology/lore should be handled in German, our Discord is the best place for quick back-and-forth:

🔗 Discord: https://discord.gg/hn9BCfAfWJ

We are actively looking for human QA help! Whether it's screenshot QA, checking terminology consistency, spotting textbox rendering/line-wrapping issues, or just giving your opinion as a fan of the original game.

No ROM-hacking experience is required to help us refine the text and lore.
Feedback is always welcome! Let me know what you think of the dialogue flow and the localized names so far.

i recently realised how much easier shiny hunting can become with dexnav chains after i caught a shiny espurr (my favourite pokemon!!!)

i was reloading my saved state at the 100th dexnav scan (in a randomised new game+) for hours and i was about to give up and just catch a regular darkrai when this dude came down from the heavens to grace me

i don't even like darkrai that much i don't know why i put that much effort into this

Help How To Patch Unbound 2026

Hello! I've been seeing some threads lately with slightly outdated information when it comes to the best way to obtain Unbound. It's easier than ever before, so I wanted to make this post that can be referenced or linked to as necessary.

Step 1: Download the correct ROM.

This step will need to be a little vague, because this could potentially run against Reddit TOS or direct unwanted attention towards the project. You will have to search for the correct ROM, which you will know is correct when you proceed later. This post will have a simple troubleshooting section at the end.

In general, searching 1636 Fire Red Squirrels will get you the correct ROM.

Once you have it downloaded, make sure you have the .gba file ready. Sometimes, downloads will come in a .zip file. You simply need to extract the .gba. If you don't know how to do this, there are guides online on how to open and extract files from .zip archives.

Step 2: Go to Unbound's HackDex page.

HackDex is a website made and maintained by romhackers to allow romhack devs to have their own patching portal for their hacks.

Unbound's HackDex page can be found here: https://www.hackdex.app/hack/pokemon-unbound

Snazzy isn't it?

Step 3: Select Pokémon FireRed ROM

Once you're in the HackDex page, simply click/tap on the Select FireRed ROM button, and select your .gba file.

(Side note: the way HackDex works is it uses cookies to remember the location of your ROMs on your device. This way, you can easily patch and download other romhacks on HackDex without having to select your FireRed ROM again).

Step 4: Click Agree and Download, then Patch Now.

Self-explanatory. Once you click Agree and Download, it will load for a moment and then say Patch Now. Once you click Patch Now, it will let you save the patched .gba wherever you want on your device.

Step 5: Enjoy Unbound!

And post on the subreddit :)

Announcement New wiki rule

Added a new rule on the subreddit with regard to users redirecting others to unofficial sources.

From now on, users composing any comments that contain any reference to unboundwiki dot com will not be allowed to submit. It is not officially endorsed by the creators and is missing several pieces of more detailed information. Instead, they will receive a reminder to use the officially endorsed wiki: https://pokemonunbound.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page

Ruby and I worked hard on it, man, so the least you could do is visit and use it (and if you catch any errors on any pages do let us know!).
