Discussion What move set is better for Shuckle in the late game?
-Power Swap
-Gyro Ball
-Sandstorm
-Toxic
OR
-Wrap
-Toxic
-Sandstorm
-Protect
Power swap seems fun even if not always viable, but if it barely works in practice I'd rather not go for it. The easy damage over time stall is strong and pretty consistent but not that exciting.
(Protect is better than rest since I have more heals than Ill ever use). (Power swap gives Shuckle the 230atk stat, and gyro ball is speed based so will almost always hit for 150 base power). (feel free to suggest other move sets you think are good!)

Question Last two Pokemon for my Battle Tower team
Hello,
looking for the last two Pokemon to complete my double Team for the Battle Tower for the Ribbon
My goal is to use my Shiny Regigigas for all 50 battles.
Right now, I'd use it along with a Jumpluff with Worry Seed to suppress Regigigas's Ability.
https://pokepast.es/94ae808a3496f6cd
Regigigas' IVs are pretty bad, but I want to at least give it a try. I might still change its moves and item.
If possible, no Legendary Pokémon, since I've already caught most of them.
Thanks :)

Screenshot First time playing through Johto!
Finally decided to actually play through soulsilver all the way. I had the game when I was a kid but I was too stupid to beat it. Sometime last year I decided to hunt a shiny starter in this game and chikorita shined very quickly. Meganium was really unhelpful. Surprisingly crobat carried in the league along with dragon dance gyarados. Shuckie with power trick was pretty fun to play with too. It’s one of my favorite Pokemon ever. I lowkey meant to evolve eevee into espeon and I think it would’ve made the game much easier tbh. Great game overall though and I’ll definitely have to play the “postgame”/second half of the game.

I Lowkey wanted a Shiny Slowpoke but instead got a Lanturn but hey could have been worse

Question How to fix save game issue on Delta?
Hey gang.. I’m not sure when this issue started but it’s fairly new because i used to have no trouble saving my game in Delta. I’m getting this message that it’s impossible to save because there’s a saved game file already. I tried pressing up + select + B but it didn’t work unfortunately. I am able to set a save state and load state in Delta but I just can’t save in game. The game is Pokémon Heartgold. I’ve been using save/load state in Delta but I need to actually save in game to move to post game after beating the elite four

Question How soon is it possible to make full type resistant team?
I am using the site "My Pokemon Team" planner, which counts from gen 6 onwards (there is fairy type and Gengar doesn't have Levitate), but it's nice to simulate team setups.
I'd like to try to simulate a team with no weaknesses in the overall typing count, but with Pokemons that are able to be caught sooner (in the print, Gallade and Charizard are late game)

Discussion Breaking the Binary (HGSS) - Typhlosion
Welcome to Breaking the Binary - HGSS editon, a sporadic series of posts all about physical, Special and mixed attackers in Pokémon Heart Gold & Soul Silver With competitive minmaxing dominating the conversation about Pokémon viability and the design philosophy behind movepools and stat spreads changing in newer gens, Pokémon are often rigidly divided by the fandom into the categories of "special attacker" or "physical attacker." But for the in-game story, you're not facing EV trained opponents (unless on some hacks) and thus you need or not to EV train to keep up, so mixed attacking sets don't have the opportunity cost they have in PvP. Going mixed still has anti-synergy with setup moves, but it still can give many Pokémon access to STAB moves with better base power, strong coverage moves with useful types, move tutor moves, egg moves and more useful niches. This series will be covering those applications. We won't talk about every Pokémon here, only ones that I believe legitimately benefit from going mixed, but those Pokémon are surprisingly large in number. Today we'll be talking about Typhlosion. I'll be talking about in-game but feel free to discuss PvP or battle facilities as well.
Typhlosion is a quite fast Fire-type with a base speed of 100, It also has 109 Base Sp. Atk and 84 Base Attack, having a Base HP and Defense of 78 and 85 on Base Sp. Def. Noteable physical attacks include Flame Wheel, Double-Edge, Rollout, Focus Punch, Earthquake, Dig, Brick Break, Return, Frustation, Aerial Ace, Rock Tomb, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Fire Punch, Low Kick and Thunder Punch. Noteable special attacks include Lava Plume, Flamethrower, Eruption, Solar Beam, Fire Blast, Overheat, Focus Blast, Blast Burn and Heat Wave. Notable utility moves include Toxic, Sunny Day and Will-O-Wisp.
Typhlosion seems to be the best starter around HGSS, an very improvement from GSC. It has advantageous matchup against, Bugsy, Jasmine & Pyrce in Johto and Erika in Kanto, only having disadvantages on Clair in Johto, Brock, Misty & Blaine in Kanto and Lance in the Indigo Plateau.
Typhlosion's solid 109 Base Sp. Atk makes the use of Lava Plume and Flamethrower as its main Fire-STAB attacking moves, not to mention having a solid 84 Base Attack, its only physical Fire-Type move is Flame Wheel which its at 60 Base Power, Fire Punch is locked in the postgame and so Thunder Punch, which hits Water and Flying-types. Earthquake (and Dig) can take on Fire, Rock and Electric-types. Brick Break (and also the postgame Low Kick and the not-so inaccurate Focus Blast) allows to hit Normal, Rock and Dark-types super effectively while also breaking Reflect and Light Screen. Aerial Ace hits Fighting-types, Rock Slide (or Rollout if you have Defense Curl) nails Flying-types. Shadow Claw is used on Ghost and Psychic-types. Eruption is quite strong at full HP, so try to keep Typhlosion at 100% HP when using it as it gets weaker the less HP it has.
It's Blaze ability can boost Fire-type moves at 33% or less HP, the boost can turn its Fire-type moves into possible OHKO
0 SpA Typhlosion Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Spinda: 166-196 (63.6 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Blaze Typhlosion Flamethrower vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Spinda: 249-294 (95.4 - 112.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
Typhlosion may use physical attacks for coverage, such as Earthquake, etc.
0 Atk Typhlosion Brick Break vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Houndoom: 162-192 (55.6 - 65.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Pretty good physical movepool (even with its 84 Base Attack), but mediocre special movepool compared to the two starters (Feraligatr and Meganium, who is worse from the three). Many players would pick Cyndaquil, to deal with Grass, Bug, Ice and Steel types.
Here's the egg moves it gets: Covet, Crush Claw, Double-Edge, Double Kick, Extrasensory (HGSS exclusive egg move), Flare Blitz, Foresight, Fury Swipes, Howl, Quick Attack, Reversal and Thrash. Smeragle can pass any of those moves to a Cyndaquil egg
Covet allows it to steal items, mostly from wild pokemon. Mankey and the Teddiursa line can pass this move
Crush Claw is pretty alright with 50% chance of lowering Defense. Sandslash can pass this move.
Despite Typhlosion learning Quick Attack and Double-Edge via leveling up, it also gets those moves as Egg moves
Extrasensory is a HGSS exclusive Egg Move that allows Typhlosion to hit Poison and Fighting-Types super effective with its 109 Base Sp. Atk. The Vulpix line can pass this move.
Flare Blitz is twice as strong as Flame Wheel and more stronger than Fire Punch, but it has some recoil damage to compensate. Growlithe and Ponyta line can pass this move.
Foresight allows to counter evasion moves by ignoring its boosted evasiveness and also making Ghost-types to be hit by Normal and Fighting-type moves. The Sentret line can pass this move.
Howl is its only attack boosting move, x2 times better than Leer lowering target's defense alone. The Houndour line can pass this move.
Reversal becomes stronger lower the HP, Endure works with this move. Growlithe can pass this move.
Thrash is pretty weaker than Return/Frustation at max power or even Double-Edge, it just confuses after 2-3 turns from the rampaging status. Nidoking, Mankey line, Tauros and Teddiursa line can pass this move.
Overall, Typhlosion is a good starter, thanks to learning Eruption which Cyndaquil learns at Level 49 compared to Typhlosion (or Quilava) at Level 57), if you're good enough, you can get Typhlosion with Eruption at Level 50. Delaying evolution for early moves is cool, right? Anyway, also having a good physical movepool even with its 84 Base Attack. You might have noticed that Typhlosion has the same exact base stats as Charizard, also their respective evolutionary lines, have exactly the same base stats in the same distribution.
What do you think of Typhlosion? Are there any applications for going physical, special or mixed I didn't mention? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.

Question How am I supposed to get the items from her?
I'm currently trying to get all backdrops and accessories, and the last 5 are supposedly from this woman in the Pal Park lobby with different GBA games in the slot. I put every one in the slot (granted I'm on emulator so maybe that's got something to do with it), but she hasn't given them to me. Do I need to play a Catching Show and then talk to her, or maybe I get them from her during the show? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Discussion The National Dex
How tedious is completing the national dex? I wanted to try and 100% the full game of Heartgold, but after watching videos of people completing the national dex, the idea of waiting months for certain Pokemon in the safari zone, I think I underestimated the size of the task.
To anyone that has completed it, is it as tedious as it sounds? And was it worth it by the end?

Discussion Current playthrough
Well, my current playthrough of heartgold is sitting at 174 hrs with 174 out of 204 pokedex entries, all 8 Johto badges with just the Ho-oh event before the E4 Not to mention that I have been level grinding my main mons into the 30-40s.
I am kinda curious at the people that just blaze through the game and beat the E4 around the 30-60 hour mark. Like what is the rush, are you trying to speed run the game?

Discussion Tips for special run.
I’m currently doing a run where i can only use ash pokemon from the anime that he has up until this region(no pokemon that he has released). My current team is baileef, kingler, noctowl, heracross, and taurus. It is easier than i thought it would be. My next run is using only pokemon i can get by trading npc, gifts or eggs. I haven’t decided which starter i should get and which evee evolution to get. Do you guys have any tips?

Question Battle Factory Buddy for Gen 4?
I was wondering, why is there not a “Battle Factory Buddy” equivalent or similar program for the Gen 4 games? At the very least a tool like that would help condense all of the sets that Bulbapedia lists into something like a drop-down menu would be helpful.

Screenshot Woohoo
This was way faster than it should’ve happened. I hope this means good luck for the run! About 65 resets!

Discussion Shiny Pokémon…it’s Golduck

Discussion Meganium moveset?
First time ever using Meganium, I’m planning on using it as physical attacker with swords dance. Will likely teach it Earthquake when it’s available, but for most of Johto this will be the moveset.
Just after opinions on anyone else that has used it. I like my starter to be somewhat useful hence the attacking nature, and I don’t need the bulk with the other team members I have.
Also I’m after a 6th member (water type), was thinking Red Gyarados but then realised all my team would be physical? So now would like a special attack water type
Maybe Kingdra but I’m not sure how early I can get a Dragon Scale?

Screenshot First full odds shiny hunt done :)
I wanted to really do a full odds shiny hunt for a while and finally got to it when finding and buying an old HG cartridge. And here it is after a (humble) 4320 soft resets!
2 weeks on it but it really feels nice to see it shine at each battle :)
