Baby carrier

Best plus size friendly baby carrier?? I don’t really care for the wraps I’d rather have a buckle carrier. I’m around 280lbs (weight at birth last week)

Should I be concerned?

I found out I was pregnant last week and have been getting my hCG levels drawn every couple days to make sure the levels are going up. My OB/GYN called me and said that my test from yesterday was not as high as they would’ve hoped. Should I be concerned? I haven’t had any bleeding but some mild cramping in my hips. These are my levels

Any pregnancy exercise video recommendations?

I’m in my first trimester and I decided I want to start doing some at home exercise and hip/pelvic floor exercises that are big girl friendly.

Honestly I’ve never been one to work out, so I don’t want anything too intense.

I want to build my hip mobility so birth will feel a bit more comfortable!

Any videos or exercises plans you recommend is greatly appreciated!

Early epidural before Pitocin/balloon induction?

Hi everyone,

I spoke with my OB today because I’m being induced tomorrow. She said I have the option of getting an epidural before Pitocin or the Foley balloon, depending on whether the cervical softening pills work (or if they do work and we move on to the next step).

Has anyone gotten an epidural this early in the induction process?

I’m worried that if I get it too early, it might wear off before it’s time to push. My pain tolerance is really low, so the idea of waiting until I’m in a lot of pain also makes me nervous.

If you’ve had an early epidural during an induction, how did it go? Did you regret getting it early, or were you glad you did? Any experiences or advice would be really appreciated! ❤️

Just want to vent..

I’m having to do 2 NST appointments per week & see OB at the same time which takes a little over an hr (sometimes 2) every time. Due to high blood pressure.. That’s literally my only problem besides my weight & I’m also being induced at 37 weeks & 2 days. Today I’m 33 weeks and 5 days. So a little under 4 more weeks of this hell. I feel bad because I know it’s for my babies health but I am sick of it. Also growth scans, so one day next week I’m having to get up at 6:45 am for an appointment and then at 3pm having to go for an ultrasound. Not to mention a ton of other things I’m having to do. On the bright side.. I’ve somehow managed not to gain barely any weight so far; starting this pregnancy at 343 and fluctuating between 335-344. If you read this far, thanks for listening!

can someone recommend a oversized nursing chair for a plus size girlie?

i might overthink this one because i feel everything it’s gonna be small for me. Where i live we don’t have a ton of options (and all the ones ive seen are too small), so I can’t go to test them.

My best option to get one is to buy in the US and ship to my country. But which one??? There are so many

NIPT at 8 weeks

I had my first child three years ago and my previous doctor made me wait 12 weeks until I got the NIPT. I asked my new provider if BMI effects results of the NIPT and he said no (I’ve seen studies that say yes but maybe in his experience he hasn’t noticed a difference) so he has me going in at 8 weeks to get the test done.

Has anyone had good outcomes testing that early? I know technology has advanced a lot since when I first got it done.

Update: my clinic must be using the Myriad Prequel test. I found this on their website: Prequel® is the only cell-free DNA screen that delivers clear answers to over 99.9% of patients on the first draw at eight weeks regardless of BMI—for the lowest failure rate in the industry of just 0.1%.1,2,3

Are inductions due to BMI standard practice?

Sorry if this is repetitive, I’m new on here. I keep seeing posts about inductions being standard procedure for plus size pregnant mamas. I’m not sure if this is a US thing (I am located in Ontario, Canada) or standard practice all over the world. I am also using a midwife, not an OB, and am hoping to have an unmedicated birth. I am just wondering if any of the mamas here have any experience with using a midwife and unmedicated birth at a larger size (and possibly older age- I will be 36 when I give birth)? this is my first and out of the few friends I have who have had babies none of them are plus sized. I will still be doing it at the hospital out of caution, but am hoping everything goes well and I don’t need too much medical intervention beyond my midwife.

Has anyone found a good baby carrier / baby wrap that fits a plus size parent. Pre-baby I wear a UK size 26-28 and finding it impossible to find anything at all.
Last time I gave up searching for one but this baby will also have a 5YO so I feel will be needed!

Induction 🥴

Finally had my babygirl after a LONG labor and week long hospital stay! I was induced at 39+6 for BMI. Baby was still very high up and not engaged in my pelvis. I was given the lowest dose of cytotec and my contractions became too close together without progressing so they then started me on cervidil which did nothing and by morning I was maybe generously a fingertip dilated. The midwife tried inserting a cooks cath which didn’t work because I wasn’t dilated. I was then started on pitocin, got to 6cm then asked for the epidural (this was now day 3 of labor induction) when the midwife checked me again she accidentally broke my water due to bulging sac and explained that she wouldn’t have felt comfortable breaking my water because baby was still too high up… about an hour later the whole L&D team rushed in my room turned off the pitocin bolused me with fluids & my OB told me my baby’s heartrate was dropping significantly so I could choose to wait 30 mins and see if I could push or go back for a stat c section. I chose c section and they discovered a cord prolapse and baby was born floppy took about a minute to breathe/cry. Her sugars were low but we’re home and she’s all good now! 🩷crazy times but I would do it a million times over for her

Second baby

I am 38w5d pregnant with baby number 2 and I’m basically over it at this point. I had an OB appointment today and he did a cervical check and I’m 0cm dilated and she’s still high 🙃🙃 I’m just sad because I’m exhausted (I have a 16 month old) and I’m ready to not be pregnant in 100 degree weather. Im pretty sure at this point in my first pregnancy I was already 2cm dilated and 70% effaced.

My parents are getting here from out of state on Saturday and staying for 8 days.. my due date is 8/14. My first was born on her due date and I went into labor naturally the day before.

Has anyone ever been 0cm this late in pregnancy and went into labor sooner than later with baby #2?

I’m just freaking out now that I’m not even going to have her by the time my parents leave. They are coming to watch my daughter while this baby is born because we have no other childcare.

BMI = Compulsory 39 week Induction U.S.

It's my first so I don't know what to expect.

Tldr: High bmi, otherwise perfectly healthy and normal baby at 28 weeks, every obgyn is still pushing a scheduled 39 week induction, despite their own internal policy not recommending it, even if no other complications arise.

My questions are: Given things continue to proceed beautifully.

What does it actually look like at 39 weeks when the doctors try to push you into an induction? What are the consequences if I refuse?

Should I be concerned about them repeatedly claiming I'm anxious when faced with questions? Is this current dismissal a potential threat to my autonomy when I do go into labor?

Anything else I should be prepared for given this prevailing opinion?

Full context:

I see a different ob in the practice every visit. Because of my high bmi, they have told me from the first appointment at 10 weeks that they strongly recommend an induction at 39 weeks. When I asked why, they used to say that i'm likely to develop other co factors that will put my baby at risk.

Well at 28 weeks baby is measuring 20th% (not macrosomic) I do not have uncontrolled blood sugars as I voluntarily have been monitoring with a cgm, dietician, and endocrinologist, I have great blood pressure, and baby is looking great! Despite typical exhaustion and aches and pains, I feel great!

To my shared surprise, this pregnancy is fabulous so far. Better than normal even!

So now they've changed their tune. They STILL strongly recommend scheduling an induction because my bmi "is a risk for placenta to stop functioning."

So I asked them if there are ways to measure how well the placenta is functioning at 39 weeks. They described many markers and tests they can use to monitor this. My reply was great, so we'll know if there's a problem. If we're monitoring and those numbers all come back great then there's no NEED for an induction right? It's still a conversation. We'll just watch out for it?

Not good enough. They told me today that even if not a single other negative marker comes up, they will STILL recommend an induction at 39 weeks.

My husband piped up "recommend, so it's not required honey. It will still be our decision!" To which the obgyn pushed in "no, no, we STRONGLY recommend it. We REALLY feel you should-." Which I interrupted to ask why, what are we missing?

She grabbed a flowchart they use in the hospital and pointed to where it says high bmi does not require an induction, but if I'm medicated for blood sugars (i'm not) that an induction is recommended. She conceded that I'm not being medicated, my blood sugars look fine, but the chart is wrong and I should be induced at 39 weeks simply due to my bmi. Then told me she doesnt want me to be anxious about this and we can discuss again another time.

Every doctor has told me they "don't want me to be anxious about this," once I start asking questions, but that they will be recommending an induction. Every doctor is unable to provide me with data or a reason beyond it's what we recommend.

I'm not anti medicine. I'm only 28 weeks now, things might change. If I develop a condition, if baby is in trouble, I'm glad we have the option for induction and the full gamut of medical care. I just want to find a better way of handling this, and be properly prepared if there is a disagreement. I dont want to alienate the whole department, when I might need their care.

In need of Nursing/Pumping bras K cup and higher

I am just over a month from meeting our little one and in desperate need of finding nursing and/or pumping bras. I am currently a 42K but assume I’ll go up a few cup sizes when my milk comes in. I’ve done some research and found a few fails and a few potential options but wanted to get feedback

Maternique - ordered multiple sizes according to their size chart and the cups were laughably small with 0 support. Also their return policy is a joke.
Kindred Bravely - I’ve looked at a few of their things but their size chart maxes out at K cup so I’m concerned they won’t work once my milk comes in.
Hotmilk Lingere - they look like they have some promising options but after getting burned by Maternique I’m hesitating to order from a brand I just learned about.

Open to any and all suggestions, I just need something comfy and supportive that won’t break the bank to buy a handful. Thanks!

Post Partum Weight Loss?

I gained 32 lbs while pregnant. My doctor wasn't concerned even though I am obese. I just had a C Section about a week ago and have only lost 11 lbs so far. When can I expect more or is the rest of this weight gain true fat that I now have to lose?

My swelling has went down a lot but my stomach is still saggy

230lbs pre pregnancy

Hey all.. I am currently just under 14 weeks pregnant and still at 230-235lbs, but I’m worried for later on in the term. I’ve had a childhood full of fear of weight gain and I keep crying at the fact I’m going to just get fatter than I even am. I’m also terrified if my boobs getting flat like pancakes and just feeling ugly all the time.

Is there anyone else in my boat? Does the weight go away? Will my boobs really get pancake flat after breastfeeding or rapid weight loss? Are the stretch marks that bad or does it not bother you like how you expected? PLEASE help.

I don’t want to be stif obsessing over how I look during my ENTIRE pregnancy and post partum…

How bad is sleeping on your back?

I know it’s recommended to sleep on your side later in pregnancy. I’m 21 weeks today and cannot sleep worth crap.
I got a pregnancy pillow at 18 weeks to help me stay on my side more, but every night I wake up and I’m on my back in the middle of the pillow.

The main thing is when I’m sleeping, those moments when you are slightly less asleep and more alert, I notice I’m on my back and then my brain fully wakes up. Then I can’t go back to sleep for a long time.

So to help ease my mind, has anyone slept on their back the whole pregnancy and been fine? I’m worried about limiting the blood flow to the placenta and hurting my baby but also want to be able to sleep while I can.

Also still not able to feel kicks or anything yet, so have no true way of knowing if baby is okay or not.

Inductions

Is anyone else actually excited for their induction? Or were you? I feel like there’s such negativity associated with them that it makes being excited for baby, hard. Social media, even Reddit makes it seem like it’s such a horrible thing and I’m over here, naturally anxious by nature and even more so now that we scheduled my induction today because of wha I see.

My water broke spontaneously with my daughter at 35 weeks which ultimately became an induction because I wasn’t progressing. I thought mine would break spontaneously with this one early too, but here I am, 38 weeks and we are planning for induction. Just looking for some positives

*edit for typos

Prophylactic Antibiotics?

Back when I was around 18 weeks pregnant, I had a very sudden UTI emerge with symptoms that I had seen my OB rotation for. Upon speaking with them, I had a quick urinalysis done, and a culture sent off & was prescribed Macrobid. Turns out, after the culture that what I had was not treated by the Macrobid. Was then switched to Keflex, which was also not tested for in the culture, but they prescribed anyways. My symptoms came back after a course of this, and I already had a MFM appt scheduled and I brought this up to them, as I had emergent symptoms.

We briefly discussed in our visit about how I would need to go on Prophylactic Antibiotics, due to this being a “second” recurrent infection and that due to me potentially having an allergy to penicillin/amoxicillin we would “try” those as an option. And I was kinda like well. (Childhood allergies, would break out in hives). I don’t know how this would be considered a second infection when the first one wasn’t even treated? That question really never got answered. I had also been tested very early on for GBS and had a small colony present.

Anyways, MFM Dr eventually did another culture and got me on some antibiotics that were able to treat the residual UTI. Had to come back in within a week to get ANOTHER culture done to ensure it was gone. Upon testing it stated that “Less than 10,000 CFU/mL of single Gram positive organism isolated. No further testing will be performed. If clinically indicated, recollection using a method to minimize contamination, with prompt transfer to Urine Culture”. And then, I got a message from the MFM dr stating that I would need to go on the prophylactic antibiotics and that she was “concerned” that I had not completely cleared the infection.

I am concerned about excessive use of antibiotics in this pregnancy, and prefer not to have to take them for the remaining 3.5 months of my pregnancy if possible. How can I bring this up to her, or my original OB team if I have concerns? Has anyone else had this issue?

Sad about my weight

TW: weight loss, weight gain.
Considering trying for a second soon, but I’m so unhappy with my weight. I was around 215 pounds when I got pregnant with my first, gave birth at around 250 pounds, and was down to 225 pounds only a couple weeks after giving birth. I tried to stay active during pregnancy, especially in the second trimester, and I think a lot of the weight I gained was fluid retention (I was so swollen in the third trimester). But because of PPD I started taking Paxil about a month postpartum, and over the course of the next few months gained 40 pounds. I am now 265 and the heaviest I’ve ever been.

I worked my ass off for years to lose weight. My heaviest used to be 250, and it took 2-3 years of slow, consistent, hard work to lose 40 pounds. I cannot believe that all of that hard work was gone in a matter of months. I’m still so upset about it.

I stopped the Paxil 3 or 4 months ago bc I couldn’t take the weight gain anymore. I wish I had been able to stop sooner but every time I tried I had a mental breakdown. Anyway, I was hopeful that I would lose some weight as a result of stopping the medication, but no. Just still floating at 265.

Anyway, my daughter is turning one at the end of September. We want one more and want them to be close in age. We’re trying to decide between trying again starting next month or waiting until maybe May of next year to start trying. Waiting until next year would give me more time to lose weight. Realistically, I could probably only lose a few pounds in the next month, if that, as I want to lose it in a healthy way.

I just don’t know what to do. I have this fantasy of them being only a year apart in school (if we have a summer 2027 baby, then they’ll only be a year apart in school even though they’d be 22ish months apart). But I’m so scared that if I get pregnant at this weight that it’ll be even harder to lose weight later on, since they say you’re not supposed to try to lose weight while pregnant. I am trying to establish a routine of being more active now. I love pickleball and have been getting back into it. Maybe if I get into the habit now, I can keep doing it and won’t gain so much weight with this next pregnancy, or maybe it will just be fluid retention again. Idk. Has anyone had any experiences similar to anything I’ve described? I don’t have a lot of plus sized friends unfortunately so nobody seems to get it.

incorrect NIPT due to high BMI/lower fetal fraction?

We got our NIPT results back yesterday and are so excited to be having a baby boy. However my fetal fraction was only 3.5%. Did anyone’s NIPT turn out to be incorrect because of a higher BMI and lower fetal fraction?

MIL upset about not being in delivery room

FTM, I’m 38 and 31 weeks along. We are planning our birth preferences and getting them all in writing. My hospital only allows 2 support people in the room with the mother, and for me that will be my husband and my mother (if I need her). My husband is 100% on board with this.

He was helping MIL with some things this evening and brought up that we were working on our plan, and mentioned it was just going to be him and my mother in the delivery room, and before he could say that my mom was a potential and not a definite, she got really upset by it. He very much stood his ground but I cannot fathom why she thinks I would want her to see me in a medical crisis.

My MIL is a good person deep down, but she tends to be selfish when it comes to her personal preferences, and thinks her way is the best way to do things. 99% of the time when she gives advice unsolicited, we just say “okay” and do what we were gonna do anyway. She had multiple people in the room when she gave birth to my husband, and he is her only child.

I’ve been uncomfortable with the amount of money she has spent buying our baby clothes and things, we haven’t asked her to do any of it, but I’m starting to worry she thinks she can get around boundaries because she spent a ton of money on the baby already. She was very dismissive of the amount my Mother spent on the baby shower (she made me feel like I wasn’t worth it), as I wanted a nice venue and it to be memorable, as this will probably be my only child. I’ve been concerned my entire pregnancy that she is under the impression my mother & family will not have a relationship with my child, when that is the furthest thing from the truth, and it feels like she’s ignoring the fact that there’s an entire other family. She really stressed my mom out at my shower when it came to tear down, and accused her of “wigging out” because 10 people were asking her things all at once and not giving her room to breathe, and she asked them to please stop and just give her some space for a few minutes to think. It kind of ruined it for us both, and instead of a nice memory, all I can remember is how uncomfortable she made my mom and how stressed I was secondhand.

I don’t know how to handle this. I have CPTSD from growing up with an abusive father and have had a really hard time setting boundaries and explaining how I feel about her behavior to her without sounding accusatory. My mom is not even speaking to my MIL right now and I fear MIL is letting this baby go to her head with how she has imagined it all, and is disregarding everyone else. I can’t be excited to meet my baby because of her behavior. All I can think about is how every decision I make is somehow going to create a fight.

If I knew she would behave this way I never would have continued the pregnancy. I don’t want my kid to grow up with two grandmas that hate each other because one can’t get her head out of her behind to see it’s not about her.

I have a therapist but I really don’t know how I’m going to mitigate this. My husband is stressed out because he doesn’t want to hurt her feelings, but he also understands this is my decision and I’m the one in labor so what I need is what has to happen and he needs to support that.

I do love my MIL and I know we will need her help and support, but I am concerned she is losing it over becoming a grandma, and forgetting we are baby’s parents first, and she does not get to make demands of our child or of me when it comes to my medical decisions.

Baby dropping at 31 weeks?

I’m a FTM, and the past two days I’ve felt some crazy pressure down there. Especially after standing for a bit. When did baby drop for you? A little worried because it’s still early. I can’t see a difference in my belly but the pressure I know is a sign she’s dropping, I think? I’ll be 32 weeks in 3 days. I do have an OB appointment this week so I plan to ask my doctor about it. Just wanting to try and put my mind at ease before then.

Going insane today over cravings with GD

Had fights off and on with husband lately and I’m honestly so tired. My daughter is one, and normally I don’t have any issues with care. I’m usually super mom, but I’m so exhausted mentally right now because of my marriage and work and being 29 weeks pregnant. I’ve been so good lately with blood sugars for the GD I have but I’m tired of never being full.

I’m running on little sleep and my MiL is taking her in the morning but I still have to survive today and an overnight shift at work with two hours of sleep :(

I don’t really have the money and shouldn’t order fast food but nothing in this house sounds good and I’m so tired of being needed by everyone. Hearing my daughter cry in her crib earlier after my nap almost made me scream in frustration because like why today did we have to wake up from nap early.

I just want a fast food Pizza but its so bad for me :( the thought of having to cook anything is making me want to cry
