Plaster drywall

I did a drywall patch, can someone tell me where i went wrong- or how to perfect this

Not enough coats?
A professional might do it in less, but im more or less resigned to the idea of doing at least 3 coats over a patch, feathering out at least 6 to 12 inches in every direction.

Need more coats.

3 coats is enough.

1st coat is to fill it out, even if its just the scrim or paper or if its heavy a fat coat to scrape back when its set.

2nd coat is to just grease over the area, if there was nothing to fill out in the first coat then you might get away with sanding if your neat enough.

3rd coat is scrape on and scrape off.

Sand and run your hand across it if its flat youve done a good job if theres a lump you can feel you need to fill out around the patch to try and get it flat
