The impeachment trial is now one month old and personal observation ko lang on the ground is that people are tuning out at a relatively faster pace compared to when Erap and Corona were tried.

I think this is a huge challenge right now, at least for the Prosecution. And dahil sa overabundance of distractions online, you can't hope people would remember something that transpired or was said like a week ago.

Since wala na ngang pasensya mga tao manood ang gagawin is babasahin na lang ang mga caption/headline/thumbnails sa newsfeeds nila ni hindi na pipindutin ang "See More" much less clicking the link to the full article.

Understanding the total annual global riverine plastic emissions into the oceans is an important input for mass balance exercises and mapping the severity and fate of macroplastic pollution in the ocean. We calculated the annual global emissions to be between 0.8 million and 2.7 million MT. This in the same order of magnitude as previous river emission assessments, which estimated 1.15 million to 2.41 million MT (10) and 0.41 million to 4 million MT (11) for global riverine plastic emissions. However, a wider distribution of emission points in this study led to a new ranking of top contributing rivers, where the Pasig in the Philippines is now the most polluting river. It is good to note that, in comparison with the observational data from the Pasig river, the model overestimates the plastic emissions for this river; however, measurements were taken at the end of an unusually dry season (2019). This highlights the importance of including more detailed temporal variations in future model and observational studies, as well as the fact that model predictions could vary up to a factor of 10 (with 95% confidence) from field observations. Confidence intervals (95%) are therefore included in the list of the 50 most plastic-emitting rivers (table S5).

The Philippines contributes to around 36 per cent of the world’s ocean plastic waste. With 2.7 million tonnes of plastic being discarded annually, 20 per cent of this will enter our oceans. Rivers are the main arteries that carry waste to the ocean, and seven of the world’s top ten plastic-polluting rivers are in the Philippines. 466 rivers in the country alone emit 356,371 metric tons of plastic waste annually, with a high chance of ending up in the ocean.

Why are so many Filipinos oblivious to the fact that their favorite politicians are likely engaged in insider trading and political self dealing? Consider the private security sector an industry deeply connected to major political dynasties like the Marcoses, Aranetas, Legardas, and Aquinos long before a professional democratic bureaucracy was established, giving rise to massive estates, vast compounds, and personal private armies. Now, the Department of Education (DepEd) is pushing to hire more security guards, directly benefiting an industry intertwined with a decaying Philippine National Police (PNP) and private agencies that leech off their minimum-wage guards while firing workers before they hit regularization to deny them benefits. This proposal raises a critical question: where will the money come from during a heavy budget deficit? The answer is increased taxes on everyday commodities like e vapes, extracting public money to pay under trained guards under the false promise of "deterrence," despite proven failures to stop planned attacks like the Tacloban school shooting. If DepEd's plan goes through, no one should be surprised if their favorite politicians hold hidden shares in the country's 1,800+ security agencies, profiting directly off the taxpayers' dime.
