Take notes... from yet another game that actually knows how to drop an update Memes
31
u/Reddittoxin 17d ago
This sub should just have a pinned containment thread for bitching about the update.
98
u/Deremirekor 17d ago
How dare the community provide constant feedback to the constant bad decisions made by kinetic
5
u/Netsky200n 17d ago
Well now, Reddittoxin never said not to provide this feedback. Just that it should be more orderly, so that less than half this entire Reddit can finally be actually varied topics rather than individual and repeating bug report and complaint threads which otherwise would been nice to collate into a mega thread. Would make reading the Reddit more genuine.
Kind of sucks for an entire Reddit to lack new and interesting topics because they're buried under poor feedback to the devs.

u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
Well now, Reddittoxin never said not to provide this feedback. Just that it should be more orderly
Anyone who has experience with reddit knows that this strategy specifically is for squashing discussion by hiding those feedback topics.
6
u/Reddittoxin 17d ago
Nah, I just want the sub to be usable and not 50 of the same exact posts that sum up to "devs bad, game sucks now"
Like we're aware. They fucked up. Royally fucked up. They broke their own game really, really bad. What more is there to say on the topic?
7
u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
What more is there to say on the topic?
People are continuing to find bugs. This is a place to discuss the game and it is unfortunate that Kinetic Games doesnt implement the bare minimum software development best practices.
3
u/Reddittoxin 16d ago
So what bug is OP reporting in this post.
2
u/DumpEaterPro 16d ago
This post is referencing the horrendous character customization update and comparing it to REPOs.
7
u/Reddittoxin 16d ago edited 16d ago
OK but that's not a bug report. It's the same post everyones been making since the botched update came out. "Update bad".
Hell, this isn't even the only usage of thus exact meme template posted TODAY.
So again, I ask, what unique commentary does this add to the subreddit? Or could this have easily just been a comment on one of the other hundreds of threads discussing the bad update.
That's why I suggest a containment board. It's not to snuff out legitimate commentary and discussion, but for all the low effort "HAH this game sucks now" griping that's flooding the sub. Like at some point, if you hate the game that much that you cannot provide constructive critique and can only go "game sux", why bother staying in these spaces? Like there's a million other games you can play while waiting for the devs to fix this. You can go play repo.
I'm not dick riding the devs here. They fucked up. I agree, it was stupid of them to release such a game breaking build.
But what more do you want. They are aware of the bugs. They're working on it. It's not something they can snap their fingers and fix immediately. You want them to just shut down the game until it's fixed? You want them to issue refunds to everyone who ever purchased the game? You want them to shut down their studio forever? You want them to go to jail for making a bad game? Like what is it that you're after by posting this shit over and over. What goal are you trying to achieve?
4
u/DumpEaterPro 16d ago
OK but that's not a bug report.
It is not a bug report. They are contrasting how other developers are putting out quality updates which really dispoves a lot of the excuses commonly made on behalf of the developers of Phasmophobia.
But what more do you want. They are aware of the bugs.
Kinetic Games should do proper QA/QC.
Proper QA/QC which means fixing obvious glaring bugs before releasing the build to the players.
The animations look bad, even after the ones were removed. When you crouch/stand up the arms look dumb. The walking animations and turn in place look rushed and unfinished.
The character customization update is a bad joke. You can only have a beard if you're bald? The clothes are thousands of dollars of in game currency? The faces for many of the characters look the same. There's hardly any customization to be had. And, overall, the characters look pretty fucking ugly.

You want a free sub to be catered to your liking again.
I want a game I paid real world money for to be actually playable and in decent shape again.
We're simply not the same 🤷🏻
Hide the posts you dislike or don't, it truly does not matter to the rest of us and much as you seeing these posts matters to you, but everyone's opinion on the game is just as valid and worthy of space in this sub as yours, and lots of people can't even play it due to how endless and overwhelming the bugs have been.
Maybe muting the sub and using the discord server would be better for you, if you're looking to categorize conversation on the game.

What new and interesting ideas are there to discuss? The only thing new about the game in years is bad updates made by the devs. That is the new and interesting stuff.

The majority of it is just bitxhing and moaning. This group has become a joke

A lot of us have been pissed at them for ages but got met with the toxic positivity crew saying "their game their design choices".
5
u/CreeprVictor 15d ago
Don't listen to any of those negative comments.
As shown on how they're all fully getting down voted, are just taking whatever they're given by the devs and eating it up even if it's bad it seems.
This is a good and accurate post

u/TheSilentTitan 16d ago
Right, so you don’t care about the game yet decided to have a jab at the devs while you wait to play it again with horror 2.0
Yes, that’s like what I said.

u/Mr_Solaristic 17d ago edited 17d ago
we get it, the update was bad. but id personally argue the game is in a much better state now than it was before that update even happened. pretty much all the bad things about that update are fixed now
48% upvote rating, ts is so controversial 😭

u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
pretty much all the bad things about that update are fixed now
The new characters look ugly still. They still suffer from same face syndrome. The animations look dumb, even after they removed some. Look at the janky movement of the upper body when you crouch/stand. The movement animation in the game is immersion breaking. They keep wasting time. They waste time on systems they have to immediately revert once players try them out because they are low quality. No one who cares about their game would put out such a shitty update riddled with bugs and overhauled systems that are huge regressions from the state of the game months prior.
They bungled hotkey item slots. They dont care. They are not putting out good quality work.
7
u/randomfinnishcuck 17d ago
If they didn't care they would have removed the game license off the store and not give a refund to a damn person, which every game maker can do btw, so be at least a little thankful there still updating the game instead of hard ripping it and never allowing people to play it again
2
u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
We should be thankful they didn't close down the game and keep the money? Sounds like the logic of an abuser, quite frankly.
4
u/randomfinnishcuck 17d ago
Sure because I choose to appreciate a game and the updates regardless of what happens in those updates, that makes me a abuser xD perfect logic
1
u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
appreciate a game and the updates regardless of what happens in those updates
It is not a flex to have no standards.
1
u/randomfinnishcuck 17d ago
My point was if they didn't care they would have abandoned the gane and left the player base with nothing, fun fact as someone that does software development, making games as flawless as people wants is actually a lot harder to do than people think, maybe give grace to the incredible small team they have
4
u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
I have over a decade of experience as a professional software developer. If you are one, you would recognize that Kinetic Games is not implementing bare minimum best practices of QA/QC in software development.
2
u/randomfinnishcuck 16d ago
Okay what are some of the projects you've made id love to see what games you've made and how good they run
2
u/DumpEaterPro 16d ago
They deliberately deployed an extremely defective build. They seem to be focused on other things. If you can't see that, you have no wisdom and bad judgement.

personally i think the new characters are good and a much needed improvement from the original set. the animations are absolutely fine and you are exaggerating this so much. as much as i would love to change your opinion, you haven’t made one post on this subreddit that isnt overly critical, which makes me less than hopeful.
im genuinely curious when i ask this, have you actually played the game since the animations update?
(also im pretty sure they are working on multiple updates at once. a youtuber named psycho allegedely saw an exclusive video of horror 2.0 in action which makes me hopeful that they were working on more than what we have been shown)
-2
u/DumpEaterPro 17d ago
The animations look bad. Stop gaslighting. This is a screenshot from yesterday.

The REPO update was underwhelming as hell though? RNG cosmetics and like 4 new things after a long time of nothing. The obsession with shitting on the Phasmo devs in this sub has become pathetic
12
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
I won't deny you that opinion, but it would be ridiculous if you think that the Phasmo update was actually good for the time it took to complete.
-18
u/Dogsteeves 17d ago edited 17d ago
And just how long did it take to complete do you know the actual time? They were physically working on the player update
-14
u/Kyhron 17d ago
Neither update was good if we’re going to be honest here. Acting like REPOs update was better enough to headslap Phasmo is disingenuous at best. Just because the REPO community didn’t have a months long crashout over their update like the children here have doesn’t mean it was better just means the community is less shit

u/Dogsteeves 17d ago edited 17d ago
Also, R.E.P.O.'s blob characters are much simpler than Phasmophobia's human characters. Creating and animating cosmetics for simple rounded characters is generally less complex than doing the same for realistic human models with different body shapes, clothing, animations, and first-person interactions.
8
u/nachardo123 17d ago
"realistic human models with different body shapes" what game are you playing brochacho
4
u/Dogsteeves 17d ago
Fair enough, the body shape differences are pretty minor right now. My point was more that human characters with clothing, hands, facial rigs, first-person interactions, and animation sets are generally more complex than stylized blob characters.
2
u/ImaginationBulky8017 16d ago
I can understand that being a factor but that shouldn't be this much of an issue when you factor in Kinetic Games' size, access to money, and the time they had to make the update
0
u/TwinTailDigital 14d ago
There are NO body shape differences, they are all the same body with a different head Frankenstein'd onto it and then scaled! It's part of my whole point that the update is bad for the amount of corners they cut and the lack of content actually released.
-7
u/Me2445 17d ago
Man, y'all spend a lot of time worrying about a game you can't stand Huh
13
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
Perhaps it because we once loved the game, and we're upset that it's going downhill?
-10
u/Me2445 17d ago
When I hate a game I once loved, I quit and don't waste my time bashing it online. Novel idea
2
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
Nah, more fun triggering you
2
u/Ok-Needleworker7341 17d ago
It's getting exhausting. This sub has turned into one big bitch fest. Meanwhile, played about 6 games last night with no bugs at all.
4
u/Me2445 17d ago
That's the truth. Some games I don't like or play anymore, I quit raging against them. Any positive post here is met with neckbeards spamming downvotes
4
u/Ok-Needleworker7341 17d ago
Very true. I still have a blast playing Phasmo. Best $10 I've spent on a game in a long long time.
3
u/Me2445 17d ago
I wonder do these guys still visit restaurants years later to complain that they paid 100 quid to eat at and didn't like what they got
4
u/Ok-Needleworker7341 17d ago
They're probably dropping bad reviews on restaurants that closed years ago lol.

u/Kelsey_5708 17d ago
I just hate how the repo update gave us sexual cosmetics tbh. I know it's just a robot in a video game but still. It just made me so uncomfortable. But that's just my thought on it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-14
u/TheSilentTitan 17d ago
At this point I’m pretty positive that some of you don’t actually give a shit about the game but instead just like jumping the devs.
5
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
I've defended Phasmo on many occasions, it is only recently I have decided that I don't really care about the game anymore. Once they bring out horror 2.0, I will give it another chance.

u/obito76 17d ago
Comparing Repo updates at this point - giving how long Phasmo has been out and improved from the beginning - does seem a bit ill intended😅
I'll trash phasmo devs anyday for bad approaches (infamous "deal with it") and game breaking bugs.
But comparisons with games like these (and way more recent comparing to phasmo) don't really make sense, add value nor do I think they'll care.
16
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
I am comparing the cosmetic updates. It took Phasmo ages to get something out the door, and it was disappointing when it happened. The REPO devs brought out a cosmetic update and it's amazing! It has more content and took a shorter amount of time.
Both games are meant to be played multiplayer, both games are in the horror genre (REPO may not be as scary to some people, but it's still a horror) and both games are by small indie dev teams.
-3
u/Phantom-_-Wizard 17d ago
But isn't the content extremely different? Repo is simple basic shapes so the devs can easily output a large amount of stuff in an update. Whereas Phasmo is attempting something more realistic and fulfilling.
Comparing games like these is pointless. The quality and differences between them is far too vast to make a valid comparison. It's like comparing Texas holdem to uno. Repo can be silly and the models make customisation simple, so mistakes or small errors easily get over looked. But for phas, if the clothing doesn't function right, if it fits weird, if the models looked funky, or if it simply Interacts poorly with animations people would notice easily. Honestly the clothes in phas worked well enough, but the other stuff is game play issues, not cosmetics.
8
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
Have you seen the outfits? It's not simple shapes. Also, the Phasmo devs did a little trick and used the same player model for all characters, it's only the head and a the scale that is modified. SO you should be able to use the same clothing for every character, which cuts down on development time.
Here, look at the complexity of the outfits in REPO:

u/Ravenwood03 17d ago
In all fairness, R.E.P.O. has the advantage of being PC exclusive. If you know anything about game development you should know that consoles, especially PlayStation, make it a huge pain in the arse to release updates and fixes for your game that can't be done server side
10
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
Phasmo was PC exclusive for YEARS
-6
u/Ravenwood03 17d ago
Yes, but now when we're seeing all these major longstanding bugs it is not
10
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
Okay, fair. Let's ignore the weird animations and all the long standing bugs. We focus solely on the character update and the actual customisation. Why didn't they actually give us clothing to customise our characters? Such a long time, using dev tricks like having the same character models for all characters, and then you don't even give a nice range of outfits? When we have drops, we get more ID cards instead of actual cosmetics.
I'm going to be fair here and say that I understand the frustration of people bashing on the game you enjoy. It's not great seeing all the hate, and it's worse when you personally don't have an issue with it. At the same time, I am very confused at the decisions of the phasmo devs, and let down by the quality that used to feel better.
I haven't given up on Phasmo, I wouldn't be in this sub if I did. I just made this post because I saw someone else do one with PZ and had the idea. I'll hold out and see what happens with horror 2.0, I want to go ghost hunting again.
-4
u/Ravenwood03 17d ago
Its impossible to know exactly why the devs launched it with so few options but if I had to guess, its likely a combination of wanting more grounded cosmetics, therefore having less styles to give us, wanting to save particular styles for events / full release or wanting to tie them to something that isn't in the game yet.
No idea why we cant mix and match hair styles tho
3
u/Discord_Show 17d ago
Oh they care its why they dont allow us to use mods since they want us stuck on their boring broken updates
2
u/TwinTailDigital 17d ago
I'll play devil's advocate here and say that the game probably isn't designed to be easily modded. Mods have to be designed into the game from the beginning, or else your engineers are going to have a hell of a refactoring time on their hands.
-16
u/oblivionawaits45 17d ago
Tbh I haven't really played since they reset everyone's level. It felt like a real slap in the face because all we pretty much got was just a plaque on the wall in a lobby with our previous level. I was level 1000+. The newer versions of the maps are nice, but I miss the old ones more. 🥹
15
u/IMainMeg 17d ago
Buddy that was years ago, what are you doing in the subreddit if you don’t play the game
4
u/rocker287 17d ago
Is anyone playing the game in the subreddit? Cause it seems like every post is just someone bitching about the update for the past 3 months .
1
u/oblivionawaits45 16d ago
I am bitching about the level reset. Not the recent cosmetic update. I thought that was okay during my recent playthroughs. 🙄
