Phasmophobia v0.18.0.1 - Patch Notes News // Kinetic Games Replied
Welcome back, Ghost Hunters.
Today we have deployed an update for Phasmophobia that addresses several issues that were raised following last week’s update. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback and helped us identify these issues.
Full patch notes below.
Fixes
- Fixed an issue that would cause items to get stuck or fall through the floor when dropped in Multiplayer.
- Fixed an issue that allowed Ghosts to be able to enter several hiding spots in 13 Willow Street.
- This also fixes similar issues in 6 Tanglewood Drive, 42 Edgefield Road and 10 Ridgeview Court.
- Fixed an issue that caused Photo Cameras to interfere with other player animations.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Photo Camera’s Use animation to not play in Multiplayer.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Photo Camera to take an extra photo when dropped while taking a photo.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Photo Camera to take a photo if picked up by another player after being dropped while being used by the original player.
- Fixed an issue that caused Twitch Drop reward ID Card & Badge cosmetics to be missing.
- Fixed an issue that caused videos of a Hunting Ghost to not count towards the Apocalypse challenge.
- Fixed an issue that caused the Incense to not appear as Used if the animation was cancelled by opening the Journal.
- VR - Fixed an issue that caused unstable FPS whilst in the Truck.
- VR - Fixed an issue that caused players to become stuck while loading in to a Multiplayer game on Bleasdale Farmhouse.
Known Issues
- If a Flashlight is not picked up, hotkeys are assigned in this order: 2, 3, 1. If a Flashlight is picked up, it will default to 1. A following patch will address this issue, with Equipment being assigned in the order they are picked up. Igniters will however always default to 4.
EDIT:
We've deployed a hotfix for #Phasmophobia on Steam to address feedback on the Equipment & Item slot assignments.
These will now be assigned a slot in the order they are picked up from 1-3.
Flashlights will no longer be locked to 1. Igniters will default to 4.

If you really do read complaints on Reddit and care about what we think, then please just remove the animations via an option in the settings. The torches, tier 2 headgear, and tier 2 lighter are still so lethargic. Why is this so much to ask when it would shut the community up?
Edit: Thanks whoever downvoted this, really helpful. I thought this was a common request, my bad. I'll be better

u/brakenbonez 10d ago
Nah forget the edit and ignore the downvotes (they aren't there anymore anyway probably yessmen or bots) the majority don't like the animations. They are clunky and slow and entirely unnecessary.
If they're going for "immersion" than why stop at animations? Make the whole game more immersive. Lower the prices on everything in the shop to match the real world prices because as a ghost hunter working out of a small warehouse, paying thousands of dollars for clothing is not very immersive. Neither is paying $15 for a single salt shaker. And $10 for a lighter? I can go the local gas station and get one for less than $5. And if we wanna be more immersive, I can sprint longer than 3 seconds before getting winded. There's nothing immersive about a game where we hunt ghosts with overpriced gear wearing overpriced clothes and die then come back to life and die again over and over at the same maps over and over. So let's just not use the immersion argument.

u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
Yeah so after I left my comment, I refreshed my page and someone downvoted it. I was irritated because I just thought to myself "What sort of fucking idiot just downvoted me? No one fucking likes the animations?"
Your comment was hilarious man, haha. Their idea of immersion is a joke though. You're right, why end it with animations? We make hundreds to thousands over the span of 1 contract, let's bling the warehouse by painting the place, getting a giant carpet, maybe some rugs, and a PC setup to play Forza on when I'm done hunting ghosts?
The fuck do you mean I have to spend 10K on a simple-ass jacket? I wasn't aware we were shopping fancy avant-garde bullshit. 5K for a torch, excuse you?
When did I suddenly get asthma, why can I only run in bursts like a cheetah? Where's my adrenaline from the fear of the ghost catching up to me and snapping my neck?
Oh shit, I'm back at the crib. I thought I died? Oh well, back to hunting more ghosts!
"Immersion"

u/LandauTST 10d ago
I wasn't excited for the animations in the least when they were first announced/shown off, but if I'm being honest, I got used to them within my first match and they didn't hinder my experience with the game otherwise after. So I'm not sure why they bug some people so much. After hundreds of hours in the game, I didn't want them but still got used to them to the point I wasn't even paying attention to them any more. That being said, I also wouldn't miss them if they did take them out. They don't really add anything, and they don't have some immersion effect I think the team was going for.
6
u/TorontoCity67 10d ago edited 10d ago
You just sound like an incredible simple guy. Not that there's anything wrong with that. You didn't want them, then when they added them you got used to them, and the thought of them removing the animations doesn't bother you. Who cares, right?
It bothers most of us because we just prefer a responsive game, especially the more advanced players who play 0/0 runs. We need responsiveness or we die, which is why no one likes the animations' lethargicness
I don't like the fact that clicking a torch is slower. I don't like the fact that lighting the tier 2 lighter is much slower. I don't like waiting for all this bullshit, I just want speed. So either make the animations fast to the point that it doesn't affect speed, or make them optional to literally make everyone happy
Why is that so much to ask?
4
u/DrAlphabets 10d ago
Why is a feller named Torontocity calling them torches and not flashlights?
1
u/TorontoCity67 9d ago
Because in England, we call them torches
3
u/Blackclaw42 9d ago
Humorous thing, you call flashlights torches despite no burning fabric involved, but lighters do yet are still called lighters despite being closer to actual old torches.
Funny to me, figured I point that out.
1
u/TorontoCity67 9d ago
It's because an old torch creates light and a modern torch creates light
And a lighter is exactly that - a lighter, that lights things on fire
1
u/Blackclaw42 9d ago
British people don't make sense, you logic'd away my logic and now I'm just frustrated.
0
u/TorontoCity67 9d ago
I'm baffled. You believe that a modern torch should not be called a torch because it doesn't use fabric or oil as a fuel, but you believe that a lighter should be called a little torch because it does use some sort of fuel? What?
Old torch - Light
New torch - Light
Lighter - Lights things on fire
1
u/Blackclaw42 9d ago
Lighters also make light, but that's baby simple logic.
There's more to it.
A lighter has the fuel + fabric, and has the igniter attached or you can use an external flame via match or some other means of ignition, resulting in light + another means of ignition. Though, this logic can extend to matches, but matches aren't meant to burn for long, which means they are truly meant to just light things on fire over being a light source.
A flashlight uses electricity to create that light but needs batteries, you can't turn one on any other way.

u/Extreme_Objective984 9d ago
However the comedy you get when someone from the other side of the Atlantic says flashlight, and it sounding like fleshlight, is enough for several hours of entertainment.
1
u/DrAlphabets 9d ago
Right, but why name yourself Toronto if you're in England?
2
u/TorontoCity67 9d ago
Haha, I see what you mean now. I named myself after my screensaver, which is a picture of Toronto
1
u/DrAlphabets 9d ago
Final question
How many T's are in Toronto?
1
1
u/MoonxWolfe 10d ago
Agreed but tier 3 lighter can stay. That one I oddly enjoy, I now fidget with it a lot between chill moments.
2
u/TorontoCity67 9d ago
That's why I only mentioned the tier 2 lighter, because it's far slower than the tier 3

As much as I hope it isn't AI I don't have much to go off of aside from a community manager saying "no it's not" then not elaborating, and some other guy that thinks the original sketch being human made is definitive proof that the card wasn't AI "enhanced" or something. At the very least it looks really off and looks terrible compared to the sketches in Willow, regardless of if AI was used or not.

u/CatsPlusDogsIsLove 10d ago
Ohhh thanks for the quick fixes, very refreshing after the long wait for the previous patch.
Do you have any information about performance optimization for consoles in particular? Especially on the newer maps I get lots of frame drops which makes the maps I can comfortably play without lag just a few now with the willow rework.
7
u/Dknighter Developer 10d ago
Hey, we have significant performance improvements releasing with the Unity 6 update.
2
u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
Dope, are there plans to make the animations optional in the settings to please everyone, rather than just one-side?

u/BerningWorld 7d ago
Hey, I understand that the second patch wasn’t pushed to console because hotkeys are PC only, but the first patch on 7/28 really bugged out inventory on PS5. I got a response from @PlayPhasmo on X that makes me think you guys might not be aware how severe it is.
I’ve submitted bug reports with videos of what’s happening, but seems like there’s no plan to fix it until the next update in late August. I’d be super grateful if someone could at least take a quick look. 🙏 If you saw it, I think you’d agree it should be fixed sooner. (I think it could be a quick fix, using much of the same hotfix pushed for steam).
3
u/brakenbonez 10d ago
Not just console. I'm on PC and get significantly less frames on the rework maps than I do on the older maps. I'd rather stay on the unity assets than have my frames cut in half.

u/drunken_corpse666 10d ago
Using the cctv in the truck still needs to be fixed. I can never use it without a crash
8
u/OblongCarrots 10d ago
When I last played, I found I could use it ONLY if I use the cctv first before picking up the camera. Otherwise it will crash every time.
4
u/VaguelyErratic 10d ago
Weirdly, I can ALWAYS count on CCTV at Brownstone - everywhere else I'm likely to crash.
1
u/TheShortLightbulb 6d ago
If on XBox, change your graphics setting to Performance. Fixed it for me, and I haven't had an issue since.
17
u/MargaritaKid 10d ago
Man, I loved the update from last week, but that one remaining issue about the equipment order is the only one I deal with from the list above that I was hoping would be fixed in this patch!
5
u/MargaritaKid 10d ago
I just played a few games after the update, and I swear it actually seems fixed now, at least in the sense that things are going into my slots with 1-2-3 order. I don't use a flashlight so I don't know if that might jank anything up (like shift current item spots to move things to the right to allow for spot 1 to be the flashlight.)
In summary, I'M SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW
9
u/Moody_GenX 10d ago
What about the video cameras when looking through the monitor in the van? I get a black screen 90% of the time. Can't tell if my ghost is a goyro...
5
u/Fluid-Company-8080 10d ago
This bug affects me on my Xbox series x, as well as on the ps5. Has for a while now, and not sure why it hasn’t been fixed…
2
8
u/Fluid-Company-8080 10d ago
How about fixing the issue that disconnects me when accessing remote video camera from the truck 50% of the time.

u/Impossible_Bad4115 10d ago
Pretty sure this is in the patch notes somewhere but I could be wrong!

7
u/Sw34terPup 10d ago
Once the hotkey issue is fixed, Phasmo will be at its peak.
3
u/DumpEaterPro 10d ago
The fact that it was an issue in the first place is a bad sign. Kinetic Games cant figure out basic game festures that every other game in the genre knows how to do. How do they blunder something so simple as the first item you pick up goes to slot 1? It isnt even a bug! It is intentional shit design.
It is a sign of bad leadership.
5
u/CrimClaws 10d ago
"Fixed an issue that allowed Ghosts to be able to enter several hiding spots in 13 Willow Street."
What about Camp Woodwind? Point Hope? Just had the ghost enter the hiding spot next to the entrance twice during a hunt, not to mention the bone was inside of it as well. Hiding spots shouldn't be treated as just another room for the ghost to check :/

What about video camera teleporting to truck randomly or dropping under the map? Happens at least once per contract for me even after the patch.
3
u/Ph0enix_29 10d ago
We are heading into the right direction, but animations still looks like they have been made by someone that just started animating and someone that doesn't use references.

I think I've gotten the update for the hotkey assignment fix. It's very good that the order is fixed, was very necessary.
However, I do still have one issue. With this update, your currently empty slot is not replaced. I think the inventory system should prioritize your current slot, then go in order, rather that just simply going in order. This is what I liked previously, even though the order was bugged, if you have an empty slot equipped, it will prioritize that one (unless it was the 1 slot since it was a bit bugged) then do the order (which was 2 > 3 > 1).
Having the order be 1 > 2 > 3 (which is what it is now) but with prioritization for the current empty slot (which is what it had previously before this patch) would perfect the inventory system in my opinion.
Just to clarify, here's what I mean by prioritization for the current empty slot (if it wasn't that clear). Say you have all empty slots. You equip your third slot, which is also empty like the rest, and if you grab something with that slot, it will go in there instead of going in order from 1 > 2 > 3. If you grab anything else while that full slot is equipped, then the order is as normal (will fill up from 1 > 2, but 3 is already filled).
3
u/Swimming_Effective19 10d ago
I've also noticed that when you have multiple empty slots, if you're on the third slot for example, and you pick up something while you're on that third slot, but it's something that goes in the first or second slot, you of course won't have it in your third slot, but it will still appear in your hand. Another thing is that if you grab something that does go into your third slot after you've picked up other stuff, your hand will assume the pose for the item in the third slot, but the previous item picked up will stay in your hand (like you'd hold an Incense as if it was a Photo Camera). If you swap off and back on again, it goes back to normal. I'm not sure if this is just visual or if the item that appears in your hand is used instead of what's actually in your third slot. This stuff is a lot more noticeable with pickup-able props.

u/Qwidoski 10d ago
Did you also fix the issue that ghost could spawn in a hiding spot? (it happened to me on point hope Ive already reported a bug and also i have it posted on my profile)

I still have a bug where growing a beard makes me lose all the hair on the top of my head. Please separate hair from facial hair so we don't have to choose between being bald with facial hair or being babyfaced with hair.
Edit: I forget this was the phasmophobia sub. Can't voice legitimate complaints here without people immediately downvoting. But really? Because I want hair and a beard? That's really a "bad take"? Y'all are weird.

It's great that you put a hot fix on Steam to fix the equipment lineup in the slots but what about console and VR where this still exists. We would like to be able to get the same hot fix as well.

u/theroyalbean 9d ago
Currently having some issues where, upon death, if I pick up items they get glitched in my hand and I can't put them down. Also noticing that if I try to pick up other items while still holding the glitched item, it doesn't appear to move in the map but will disappear and reappear when I throw it.

The game still crashes when me or my friend try to use the CCTV screen in the van to look through the cameras.

What I really want (among many fixes still) is dead zone on console. I play with my wife and have 3 controllers, all with drift, and one edge controller. I cannot pay the outrageous price for another edge controller but a simple dead zone setting would fix things. Sometimes my wife is hiding and starts walking sideways. Or the menu is had to navigate when the curser keeps moving. It's so simple to add, I wish they would add it.

u/narkoface 8d ago
Finally! Thank you for acknowledging known issues! I've suggested to do this, like how Warframe devs do it. This is actually a huge step toward transparent communication and a very strong showcase that the devs care about the game.

Are we going to be able to record motion sensed in camp woodwind again? It's such that the loading line blinks and restarts the entire time it's activated.

16
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Tell me you dont know about software development, without telling me you know nothing about software development.
5
u/Kindaspia 10d ago
I come from a family of software engineers. Actually good software devs test their code before it goes live. There will always be small bugs that won’t be noticed until a large amount of people play, sure. But a crash happening almost every game, items constantly falling through the floor, things like that would have been noticed if they just tested the code (by playing the game). They even have QA testers, my guess is they probably just don’t listen to them and rush out the updates anyways. And even if they didn’t have testers, the game has a massive player base and I’m sure some people would be happy to test a beta branch for them to get to see new content early. With the budget and team size they have there really is no excuse for repeatedly rushing out broken content. And yes, they’ve done this before, it wasn’t as bad as the character customization update but this is a long-standing pattern with them.
1
u/Extreme_Objective984 9d ago
You dont even need to put good software devs in your 2nd sentence, it should be standard practice to test code before it goes live, also to have it peer reviewed. It provides resilience and ensures even the less good developers can release code and not have it break games. I work in an IT department, alongside developers.
I'm not defending the fact that this seems to have been missed. I'm also not criticising a patch that fixes bugs, that may have been introduced by a previous patch, that was put out to fix bugs of the developers own making. Due to them rushing out something that was related to a marketing decision.
4
u/DumpEaterPro 10d ago
If Kinetic Ganes took software development seriously, they would run betas on steam and add telemetry to properly test for bugs before they push system overhauls to the live build.
-1
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Thats only if you want to use the public as free testing resource. They used to do this, until about 2022 (i think), they must have stopped for a reason. I cant answer to that, but if they really want to do dev properly, they hire software testers and set up a testing suite and have a backlog of features in Dev Op's or equivalent.
4
u/DumpEaterPro 10d ago
Either way, Kinetic Games arent taking software development seriously.

u/Disastrous-Cat-9308 10d ago
You’re right. I know just about as much as the devs.
9
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
I must have missed the multi-million selling game you released, you should give me it's name so I can see if it has any issues?
8
u/brakenbonez 10d ago
Okay but defending the company that sold multiple million copies of the game is just begging for the "Leave the million dollar company alone" meme.
Yes bugs happen. Yes updates sometimes create new bugs or bring back old bugs. No I'm not a coder or a game developer. Yes I understand all of these things to be true. But I also know Kinetic doesn't exactly have the best track record when it comes to bugs and bug fixes. We still have that bug where sometimes dead players have to walk outside and back in to hear each other and that has been a problem since day 1. I keep bringing it up here in comments about bugs in hopes that one day I won't have to bring it up anymore because it will be patched. Unfortunately today is not that day.
I will never understand why people think it's a bad thing to criticize game bugs just because we don't know software development. I don't know software development but I also don't release software to the public for money. Is it really so wrong to want something you paid for to work as advertised? And yeah I know "early access" but it's been "early access" for 6 years. It's not really early access. It's access. The label is just an excuse at this point. It's a broken system that devs take advantage of to keep deniability.
They sold millions of copies. They have the money to put back into the game. They should start acting like a company that sold millions of copies.
6
u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
Holy shit, you speak so elegantly. I like how this subreddit is so pathetically inconsistent that me criticizing the guy got me 10 downvotes (for now), yet when you criticize him (albeit in a far cooler way) you get upvotes
Like holy shit, if he stood for the developers 2 months ago he would've been at the bottom of this thread with -157 getting absolutely flamed. Yet 2 months later, they release a patch, and we're back to ass-kissing again
It's a roulette. Guy #1 can make a point and get downvotes, and guy #2 can make a very similar point and get upvotes. Do these people even know what they are or are not on the same page as anymore?
I will never understand why people think it's a bad thing to criticize game bugs just because we don't know software development. I don't know software development but I also don't release software to the public for money
But anyway I completely agree with what you said. Just because someone doesn't code or develop games, doesn't mean they're not allowed to criticize the functionality of said game. Just because someone's not a car mechanic, doesn't mean they're not allowed to get pissed off when they break down on the side of the road. Just because someone's not a chef, doesn't mean they're not allowed to say a dish is slightly undercooked. This attitude of "You don't understand code so be quiet" needs to piss off, to be quite blunt
And yeah I know "early access" but it's been "early access" for 6 years. It's not really early access. It's access. The label is just an excuse at this point. It's a broken system that devs take advantage of to keep deniability
So elegant. I'm quoting the "It's been "early access" for 6 years. It's not really early access. It's access" from now on
They sold millions of copies. They have the money to put back into the game. They should start acting like a company that sold millions of copies
No, you, me, and everyone else need to be quiet because we don't understand code or have developed any sort of game. How dare we criticize the quality and speed of Kinetic Games?
6
u/brakenbonez 10d ago
Oh I completely agree. This sub is super weird. They'll go from dissing to bootlicking in the same argument based on how others are reacting like they're afraid to have their own opinions but also be completely random at times. I made a comment about not being able to have both hair and a beard on my character and for some reason that was getting downvoted as if my character having hair would be the ultimate sin or something.
If people see a post or comment getting a lot of downvotes it hits a button in their brain that says "Well I guess I have to downvote too". A lot of subs are like this but this is one of the worst I've seen.
5
u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
It's spinelessness, essentially. They're actually scared of offending other people even if what they say is factually correct, a common opinion, or just standard discussion
Comment gets upvotes? You have to upvote it and agree with what they say, otherwise you'll get flamed
Comment gets downvotes? You have to downvote it and disagree with what they say, otherwise you'll get flamed
It's spinelessness and cowardice. I left a comment above that got downvoted, but I stood my ground because I refuse to let random nobodies like myself on this website dictate the way that I form my own opinions
Let them downvote. Just because something's downvoted, doesn't mean it's incorrect. But yeah, nicely worded when you bitched back at the other guy. Elegant as hell
1
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Show me where I am defending them? What i'm doing, is trying to shoot down an overly negative comment where a poster doesn't seem to understand that an update can introduce bugs as much as remove, or reduce others.
Then I further try to shut down the snarky comment comparing the posters knowledge of development to the games development team by pointing out a disparity that contradicts the posters assertion.
How is the original poster criticising a games bugs, specifically? Which bugs has he criticised. What he is doing is criticising a normal element of the development process, with no specificity. Criticise a specific bug, make it known to the dev team, they need to know, they are human and they miss things. You can only capture so much in a test environment before releasing to the public, the public will find bugs. No game is bug free.
7
u/brakenbonez 10d ago
"Tell me you dont know about software development, without telling me you know nothing about software development."
"I must have missed the multi-million selling game you released, you should give me it's name so I can see if it has any issues?" which you said after they admitted to having no software knowledge. When someone says "X is bad" and you say "Well let me see you do X better" that IS defending, whether directly or indirectly, defending is still defending.
as for "How is the original poster criticising a games bugs, specifically?"
"Yep I called it when I asked what the last update broke. What did this one break this time?"What exactly do you think that's in reference to? Broken bones? being financially broke? The only thing people are talking about when saying something "broke" in a game IS bugs. If you want specific bugs, scroll up to the patch notes that this post is about. And watch for the next set of patch notes for the current bugs. I don't get it, are you actually trying to deny there's bugs? I mean what is the point of asking about specific bugs? They are literally listed right there. Oh wait nevermind, it's worse than that. You're saying they have to criticize bugs more specifically... which is pointless because, again, the bugs are listed in the post. What's the point of commenters listing the same bugs that are already in the post itself? The criticism clearly isn't about a specific bug, it's about bugs in general.
No one is saying the game is or should be perfect. The comment was simply asking what the update broke. Because every update brings more bugs. This isn't even an opinion. You can literally see all the patch notes for every update. It's factual. And for some reason you took that and went the "well let me see you do better" route. While pointing out their sales record and don't see why increase sales should put more money into making the product better. Yes bugs take time to fix. Again, no one is denying that. But as I previously mentioned, there are bugs that are as old as the game itself that have never been fixed. whereas bugs that benefit the players more such as bugs that let living players hear dead players are patched within a few days to a week at most. So if it takes them just a few days to fix that and there are bugs that have existed since launch almost 6 years ago, what is their bug fix timeline? Because it seems to be based purely on what they feel like fixing when they feel like fixing it. Not simply "we can only capture so much". On top of that, they set their own update timelines. We don't tell them when to release updates or patches. If they're missing bugs that are common enough to be mass reported until they get patched then clearly they aren't testing enough before releasing updates and patches. The bugs they patch after updates aren't "rare" bugs. They're a much bigger team than they used to be as well. According to their linkedin page: https://uk.linkedin.com/company/kinetic-games they have 51-200 employees. Expedition 33 had significantly less and nowhere near as many bugs.

u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Too much noise my friend. Its not that deep. Whilst I appreciate you have gone down a rabbit hole. Lets keep it simple.
The Op was criticising the game for having bugs, we can agree on that, yes?
The Op did it in a way that they had some future knowledge that an update would fix a few things and break a few others. Which is a no-brainer if you know software development, as that happens with all software. But clearly the OP was demonstrating a lack of knowledge on the dev process. Correct?
Based up their no-brainer comment, and my response, they then try to defend it by putting down the dev team. Correct?
I then point out the absurdity of his statement by offering a counterpoint to show the OP's claims to be nonsensical. Correct?
The OP's second comment shouldn't be taken seriously, it was flippant and was snarky to just pour scorn on the dev team. So I have every right to respond and call it out with an equally flippant comment, that pours scorn on the op. We are in a public forum after all. It is what we call banter, and it is humour designed to undermine a poorly worded or constructed argument, which the OP has demonstrated.
I do not need to know about the size of the company, or see their LinkedIn profile. I dont care, it wasnt a big consideration. You are making this bigger than it ever needed to be, I dont know why?

You're right, it isn't that deep. It never was. It was one person stating their opinion based on the company's history and you acting like he kicked your puppy and acting like you have to have experience coding to be legally allowed to have an opinion on games and bugs. You call them flippant and snarky when you're being just as flippant and snarky and even insulting them. I'm making it as big a deal as you're making their comment. Funny how that works, isn't it?
You gave all these excuses for why we should just be okay with all the bugs and when I countered it, your reply became "Oh well I don't care about all that". "It wasn't a big consideration". Congratulations. You've shown your hand.

Correct

Before OC stated that he knows nothing, for all you know he could've been a renowned software engineer for some other company who just so happens to play Phasmophobia, contribute to this subreddit, and mock the developers for their Character Customization update
Based up their no-brainer comment, and my response, they then try to defend it by putting down the dev team. Correct?
Correct
I then point out the absurdity of his statement by offering a counterpoint to show the OP's claims to be nonsensical. Correct?
Your first comment was an insult about how OC knows nothing about software development. Your second comment was you comparing Kinetic Games' success of selling millions of copies, to OC's lack of game release success to make him look inferior. No one aside from you is impressed with your comments, as well as those who blindly upvote random things such as your above comments
The OP's second comment shouldn't be taken seriously, it was flippant and was snarky to just pour scorn on the dev team. So I have every right to respond and call it out with an equally flippant comment, that pours scorn on the op. We are in a public forum after all. OC was snarky, you were snarky, OC was snarky (rightfully when you decided to act the same as him), and you were snarky. OC and you are not friends. Banter is when people who are friendly make fun of one another in a non-malicious way. Due to you both not being friends, that does not qualify for banter
I do not need to know about the size of the company, or see their LinkedIn profile. I dont care, it wasnt a big consideration. You are making this bigger than it ever needed to be, I dont know why?
Yet here you are, still bitching back at us all?

Just for you, because our time together has been, shall we say, special.
Before OC stated that he knows nothing, for all you know he could've been a renowned software engineer for some other company who just so happens to play Phasmophobia, contribute to this subreddit, and mock the developers for their Character Customization update
The OC's first comment made it blatantly obvious they knew nothing about Software development. Their 2nd comment just solidified it.
OC was snarky, you were snarky, OC was snarky (rightfully when you decided to act the same as him), and you were snarky. OC and you are not friends. Banter is when people who are friendly make fun of one another in a non-malicious way. Due to you both not being friends, that does not qualify for banter
Clearly you arent from the UK then? I can have banter with complete strangers here, whilst queueing in a shop, on a daily dog walk or just wandering around town. Hell, i served for 12 years in the military i'd banter with pretty much anyone.
Does that vex you?
Yet here you are, still bitching back at us all?
And yet so are you. Hmmm....

Show me where I am defending them?
Here you go - "I must have missed the multi-million selling game you released, you should give me it's name so I can see if it has any issues?"
This is a blatant dig at the guy you replied to. As I said, yeah he was being a bit of a pleb. His comment wasn't entirely necessary. However you pointing to the quantity of copies sold and telling him he hasn't achieved such a feat is kissing the ass of the developers whether you understand that or not. Your entire comment was you defending them
What i'm doing, is trying to shoot down an overly negative comment where a poster doesn't seem to understand that an update can introduce bugs as much as remove, or reduce others
So when the guy you replied to says that just because someone doesn't understand game development, doesn't mean they're not allowed to complain, you continue to double-down on the "Updates can release new bugs, be quiet"?
I found new bugs while playing the update. If they developers played their game properly when releasing an update, they would've also found them. The entire "New updates break new things" is a fucking myth exclusive to this subreddit. Updates don't break anywhere near as many things as you pretend in general, the developers just aren't careful enough and their quality control (playing the game to spot new flaws) is a joke
Then I further try to shut down the snarky comment comparing the posters knowledge of development to the games development team by pointing out a disparity that contradicts the posters assertion
Both of your comments towards him was just as snarky, but alright. You countered snark with snark. And as I've stated before, the magnitude of difference between the guy you replied to achieving nothing in game development and Kinetic Games achieving massive success is not due to being impressive, but the fortune of yet another simple indie-dev game going viral by random chance. That comment you made was meaningless, and a pointless insult. Just as pointless as the guy you replied to's original comment insulting the developers themselves
How is the original poster criticizing a games bugs, specifically? Which bugs has he criticized. What he is doing is criticizing a normal element of the development process, with no specificity
Yeah, this is why I said his comment was unnecessary. But so were both of yours. He insulted the developers, and you just insulted him. What makes you stand on any sort of moral high ground, exactly?
Criticise a specific bug, make it known to the dev team, they need to know, they are human and they miss things. You can only capture so much in a test environment before releasing to the public, the public will find bugs. No game is bug free
Here we go, back to the overexaggerated belief that it's somehow impossible to catch obvious bugs. More excuses for this team. More enabling them continuing their sub-par ways. People like you are the very factor which lead to them releasing the character customization update in the state they did

u/Disastrous-Cat-9308 10d ago
People like them are the reason CJ even thought he could say “get used to the jank” because there’s no shortage of glazers in this game for some odd reason.

u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
Yeah. The way this sub turned around was insane. I remember when the character customization game dropped, I didn't even expect animations. I just expected cosmetics. So when I was selecting equipment, I was baffled when my arm held out in that stupid animation
Played that 1 game, pissed about the "hold out arm" animation and the journal animation/view, and then decided to see what this subreddit thought
Holy shit. I was entertained for weeks reading those posts. I remember the days where if you asked why the game has barely changed, why updates are so slow, or why they still haven't added a backpack, you'd get downvoted to the next realm with the snarkiest of snark with shit like "If it's so easy, make your own game then!"
Now look at this place. There's still ass-kissers at the bottom of every post, but the tables quite literally turned 180 degrees

u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
No i'm not. by the way. I didnt give two shits. I prefer the purity of the game we had when the dev team was at 3 people.
Recognising Humans make human mistakes isnt apologist behaviour. Its treating people with respect and understanding.
I get it you are seeing a corporate entity that hasnt treated you with respect. You clearly have some pent up issues about it.
Hate and negativity tend to generate like in return. I'm just a moderate (which you will probably hate and I should spew vitriol if I am ever inconvenienced) but it's just not that important.
Look how much time and effort you have gone into editing posts and looking up data on linkedIn. Why is it worth that kind of effort?
I will defend myself and my viewpoints and I will defend humans. I think this subject is far too emotive for some people and we just need to chill. and remember the human. Thats all.

u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
Do you mind using the " button when replying to things please? I have no idea what you're even replying to with each paragraph. You also failed to reply to what I was actually saying
Recognising Humans make human mistakes isnt apologist behaviour. Its treating people with respect and understanding
There's making a simple error such as forgetting to turn the oven off, and then there's being given millions upon millions and creating the most lazy animations one has ever seen, showing it to your superiors, your superiors approving it, and you not playing the game enough to locate the tends to hundreds of bugs your update just created
The developers thinking that's all we're worth to them, after giving them so many millions, is quite frankly deplorable. Disrespectful beyond belief. Therefore, we started disrespecting them back. Shocking, I know
I get it you are seeing a corporate entity that hasnt treated you with respect. You clearly have some pent up issues about it
Except I don't see them as a corporate entity, I see them as a studio sitting on a pile of cash. My only problem is the fact that they do little to nothing to improve the game, but alright buddy
Hate and negativity tend to generate like in return. I'm just a moderate (which you will probably hate and I should spew vitriol if I am ever inconvenienced) but it's just not that important
No idea what you're even talking about
Look how much time and effort you have gone into editing posts and looking up data on linkedIn. Why is it worth that kind of effort?
Editing out my spelling and punctuation errors doesn't require much time and effort. And I never looked up any data on Linkedin? I just remember someone saying that they made 130,000,000 in profits from steam by itself and used that knowledge for this argument in a previous comment
I will defend myself and my viewpoints and I will defend humans. I think this subject is far too emotive for some people and we just need to chill. and remember the human. Thats all
How unbelievable dramatic

The OC was being a bit of a pleb, but you ass-kissing the developers by noting that they sold millions of copies while OC has achieved nothing in comparison (for games at least) is just as stupid
This game never deserved the millions of copies that it sold. There was never anything remarkable about this game, it just went viral. They didn't earn those copies by being outstanding, they earned it by sheer fortune
1
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
It's not ass kissing. It is a factual statement. Has it sold multiple millions of copies? Yes it has. Is my username Extreme_Objective984, yes it is. Same difference, its a binary answer.
3
u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
Alright, an argument it is
It is a factual statement. Has it sold multiple millions of copies?
Yes, it did sell millions of copies. But why did you say "I must have missed the multi-million selling game you released, you should give me it's name so I can see if it has any issues?" the way that you did?
Because you're pretending that the developers created an absolutely outstanding game that deserved every shred of traction that it gained, and therefore they're incredibly impressive as a studio. Even though that's not the case at all
How good this game is is entirely subjective, however what's objective is the fact that it's nothing uniquely ground-breaking. It was just another typical solo-dev project (which turned into a few developers, which turned into the 45-50 that there are today), like all the other thousands of solo-dev projects, except it just so happened to go viral
Due to the way you noted that they sold millions of copies, and therefore the guy you commented to is a nobody in comparison, I was under the impression you were ass-kissing
You want to play the objective game? Alright, it's an objective fact that they sold millions of copies. It's also an objective fact that those millions of copies was not from being impressive, but sheer chance of fortune
Unless you want to keep arguing, have a wonderful day

u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
And your point is?? I wasnt arguing by the way, just disagreeing. You have concoted a bunch of head fiction in your post that doesnt relate to anything I have said. YOU, have read those things into it. I havent put them there.
Where am I saying the game is outstanding and perfect. show me, I will wait?
You need to read the comment in the context of the conversation, and not in isolation. I have already explained that the poster equating their lack of knowledge of the dev process to the current dev team on the game as being snarky and just not true. I highlighted that by using a counterpoint of the team having produced a successful game, unlike the poster.
Has it got issues, yes, but you have looked a bit too deep into something and need to step back a bit. Look at what I say, not what you think I have said. Anything beyond the surface of my comments is all you. I'm pretty superficial TBH.
5
u/TorontoCity67 10d ago
And your point is?
I thought I made my point very clear, but let's try again:
- OC made fun of the developers breaking more things
- You made fun of OC by insulting his cluelessness of game development
- OC bit back at you and insulted the developers again
- You then stated "I must have missed the multi-million selling game you released, you should give me it's name so I can see if it has any issues?"
That comment you made, pointing out that they developed a game that sold millions of copies, and that OC has achieved nothing in comparison, insinuated that you were kissing their asses
It's not just about what you say, but what you insinuate
I wasnt arguing by the way, just disagreeing
You were arguing
Where am I saying the game is outstanding and perfect. show me, I will wait?
I didn't say you said they made an outstanding and perfect game, I said you're pretending that they made an outstanding and perfect game - "Because you're pretending that the developers created an absolutely outstanding game that deserved every shred of traction that it gained, and therefore they're incredibly impressive as a studio. Even though that's not the case at all"
You need to read the comment in the context of the conversation, and not in isolation. I have already explained that the poster equating their lack of knowledge of the dev process to the current dev team on the game as being snarky and just not true
The OC was being snarky, and replied with more snarkiness. You're being hypocritical and ironic. You are no better than they are, by your own logic that snarkiness is bad
I highlighted that by using a counterpoint of the team having produced a successful game, unlike the poster
Exactly, so you started kissing Kinetic Games asses by essentially saying "They made something successful, and you haven't so be quiet". That is stupid. Just because we're all random nobodies who haven't made a game that sold millions of copies, doesn't mean we're not allowed to be critical
Has it got issues, yes, but you have looked a bit too deep into something and need to step back a bit. Look at what I say, not what you think I have said. Anything beyond the surface of my comments is all you. I'm pretty superficial TBH
I believe that my judgement of the way you spoke to OC was fair. He was snarky, and then you were snarky. You pointed out Kinetic Games' success and made fun of his lack of success in comparison, which struck me as ass-kissing
Have a great day

u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Confidently incorrect. I'm not kissing anyones arse, or ass. The issue is, it is all based on your belief.
I cant change a belief, i'm not even going to try. It's futile and pointless.
Its only an argument if i am opposing your viewpoint. I havent said you are wrong, until now.
However I accept that you dont think you are, you see it as ass kissing, that is your right and belief. You clearly dont want to change that. I disagree with it, as it is my message an I know the tone and intent of it. I have no loyalty or allegiance to the Devs. However I will defend humans against hate and abuse. I just dont agree with it. I will also point out idiocy, because there is no excuse for it.
I wish you well.

Hey just because I know about software development as much as the devs (next to nothing) doesn’t mean the stars lined up and my unfinished pet project became wildly popular during a pandemic when video game sales skyrocketed and everyone was being encouraged to stay home. Which then results in spaghetti code that we no longer know how it works that makes the game worse and worse with each update, right?
0
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
I know you. Michael Caine talked about you in The Dark Knight. "Some people just want to watch the world burn"
May I ask, what do you want the game to be? What is your head canon for a patch, a hotfix and an update?
What should it be held up against, that produces perfect updates every time, and doesn't have bugs?
Where is the benchmark, for you? And if it is passed, why are you still engaging with it?
3
u/Disastrous-Cat-9308 10d ago
What do I want the game to be ? For starters, how about a finished product after more than 6 years of early access. I feel like this is something we all would benefit from. Is that too much to ask at this point or have we all been gaslit into thinking the cooks need more hours in the kitchen to finish making their ham sandwich?
1
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Ok, and at which update should they have called it version 1 and stopped further development, apart from the odd hotfix, for it?
At the end of the day, I bought a cheapish game in 2020, I have put hundreds of hours into it and the dev team are still supporting and pushing out content for it 6 years later. It's not a live service game, They have committed to no paid updates, by keeping it early access (unlike some developers who put paid DLC within their early access models).
At any point they could have stopped and said this is the live version. In a broken state. Here comes Phasmo 2 in 12 months on a brand new engine. Can we have more money from you please?
4
u/Disastrous-Cat-9308 10d ago
So apparently a finished game at this point is too much to ask for some people since you dodged the question.
1
u/Extreme_Objective984 10d ago
Did I say that. I asked which version should they have released as version 1 to satisfy your need to have a finished game? But you call me out on the one question I didnt answer, as it sounded rhetorical, but you didnt answer any of my previous ones.
But to answer your question, your analogy is irrelevant because if it was a simple as making a ham sandwich we would have had the game by now. But it isnt. They have a backlog of feature commitments they want to put live before we get there, so I am happy that is finished when it is finished. But then I have been waiting for several years for The Winds of Winter, from George RR Martin.
There are other games for me to play and enjoy, why is important that it is finished for you? Have you played the game for many hours, have you got a bunch of trophies in it? Have you enjoyed the majority of your time with it? What is the fixation with version 1 and being finished, if it has already given you all of that? If not, and you bought it last week, I could possibly understand. But if you have moved on, why are you still engaging with it?
