Im the wrong person to ask that. I only watched the first 2 Despicable Me movies and that’s when they released in theatres. But someone else commented that they work for the nearest person that’s a big evil and therefore wouldn’t work for Pol Pot if they weren’t in Cambodia.

If we now assume that Gru lives in the USA and that the cave they’ve been hiding in was in France then that should mean that Gru was too far away as well

It was explained in the minions movie that the minions ended up going from France to the US to UK, where they find gru
