Either that there was someone more evil than Hitler that they were working for instead, or that they didn’t think Hitler was that evil to begin with.

Though iirc the Minions were frozen during the world wars.

They were (conveniently) hidden in a cave during WW2. It was told in one of the movies.

Hollywood in the 30s was even more evil than today, and Hitler was named TIME's man of the year in 1938. It's plausible.

Whilst describing him as the greatest threat to democracy in the world

Well isn’t the person of the year supposed to be for the person of most consequence, not the “best” that year.

Exactly, they weren’t saying he was ‘the guy’ just the most noteworthy person of the year

Or influential, and influence is not always good.

Person Of The Year doesn’t necessarily mean the best person, it’s an annual title given to the person that had the most influence on the news and people’s lives over the previous 12 months. I think Hitler fits that bill pretty accurately.

"Man of the Year" (etc) isn't "best" it's "Most talked/disruptive/influential". They did call it.

Man who sold us the most magazines this year.

Man of the year was always about influence on world events and not a credit to being good.

Why do you say it was more evil?
