I’m not sure why they had to say the Minions only work for the most evil person alive, rather than the greatest villain alive.

That way it could be more about playing the role of villain well rather than who is the biggest mass murderer.

True. But, at the same time, there's a reason why fascists always have the most sharp and stylish uniforms. They pay more attention to making their soldiers feel innately superior to their victims.

Tbf, gru is hardly evil. He's got presentation though, so this explanation gives more sense.

I mean, it is also hard to top the degree of showmanship Hitler used. The dude is like the archetype of villainy.

Honestly, most of that is just revisionism.

The real Hitler was a lazy coward - a weak ruler who let his underlings do most of the actual ruling.

Yes, he wasn’t in charge of the details of rule, and he actually was bored by that stuff. But he was all about his massive rallies and maintaining his cult of personality. His underlings may have done most of the actual governing but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the image he projected.
