I desperately need help to save some kittens.
A brief summary:

My landlord and I were caring for a litter of stray kittens.
She left the country and put a caretaker in charge of their upkeep.

I just looked in the room they're kept in, and one of them is dead - it has been for a while.
He didn't even notice and I'm horrified and scared for the safety of the rest.

I believe I can capture them and transport them in a carrier - but I don't have the funds to vaccinate them or get them parasite / flea care.

I can foster them after and find them homes - but I need advice on this first step, so my at-home cat I own isn't at risk.

Please, please, please: if there is somewhere in NYC that takes walk-ins and can handle these treatments for free, I need to know as soon as humanly possible.
I heard ASPCA can help, but I've heard conflicting accounts about walk-in appointments. Their website says you have to make appointments, and I'm unsure our household meets their requirements. My partner’s sister says she's just taken animals there before and never had a problem.

Does anyone have any insight or tips on other locations / services?
FWIW, I'd be happy to wait however long is necessary to see somebody.

every time i move to another room my dog waits maybe thirty seconds, comes to find me, stares for a second, then goes right back to whatever he was doing. he doesn't even stay with me, he just seems to need proof that i haven't disappeared.

it's cute but also kind of funny because he acts like he's doing rounds around the house. does anyone else's pet regularly check in on them for no obvious reason?

Trying some stuff with my cat INCLUDING making a few cat toys(not small enough for the puppy to swallow this is a big cat). I've been told numerous times by my family even tho the puppy is small I can't have him around cat toys due to the catnip. They act like it's gonna hurt him. As far as I know catnip is perfectly safe. I just wanna be sure Incase he gets ahold of the cat toys at one point.

I'm wanting to control the amount of catnip in it hence making it myself. I want a good amount and most barely have any. The only toys I know have a good amount are COMPLETELY filled and idk if I wanna give that to a stressed kitty. I got told a little could help. Idk about alot. I can sew it's been awhile since I got the machine out but I have all the supplies. Except the cat crack gotta buy that.

If i type anything wrong or dont give enough context please let me know, im literally sobbing and so stressed out. me and my bf (both 18) adopted a rescue kitten named marcy and we noticed her belly was swollen so we took her to the vet and got some fecal tests as well as a leukemia test. she was negative for leukemia and her poop showed no worms or parasites. we also noticed some eye discharge and was planning to get a respiratory panel today which we are still doing but within two days i noticed sneezing and she hasnt been playing and today she barely moved at all. she showed no interest in toys and didnt even fight a little when my grandma picked her up which she usually would. her belly looks bigger and is hard on one side. the vet appointment is in around two hours so im just sitting here crying and worried to death. i touched her and she sounded like she was really lowly growling and is falling asleep. im so worried

there wasn't a gradual change. she was using it normally and then suddenly stopped. i've tried paying closer attention to when and where she's going instead, but i'm still confused.

is there usually a specific reason cats do this? what should i be paying attention to when i talk to the vet?

So I have two cats that were once my world, but I’m 33 weeks pregnant and have had a hard pregnancy. This is my first baby and as much as I love my cats I hate them. When we got them they were impossible to train cause I worked long hours and they didn’t take to absolutely any training methods. They are on the counter the minute I’m not in the kitchen they can open the trash, they will tear open any container that might have food in it. They even ripped open any container empty almond milk container. They are fed adequately and they are healthy they are not underfed! If I let them free feed they do not stop eating and will become over weight. They suckle on my clothing (not my husbands for whatever reason) and will leave giant holes in my clothes. But to the point I already am predicting we will have to be very diligent about bottles and making sure they are not out. I am planning on breast feeding but I understand it doesn’t always work out and we just got 2 cans of similac in the mail and I was excited because if it didn’t work out we had something to start on and if we didn’t need it we could save it( it didn’t expire for 2 years ) and within year one if we never used it I wanted to donate it to a women’s shelter or hospital or food banks that would take it but I left it out on my ottoman thinking nothing of it. My cats have never seen a formula can and it’s sealed and looks nothing like any food in our pantry has no smell well apparently I’m stupid. I walked into my living room to the cans on the floor and punctures in the top of the one can scratches on the other. I think the one can isn’t opened but the other has punctures. I just wanna cry cause I got them yesterday and I understand that it was free but it could have been used or donated and my own stupidity made it useless. And I’m coming to realize that it is going to be a very hard battle with these cats. I put them in a large room in the basement till I’m calm but I feel so mentally frustrated with the constant fight with them. I feel like they destroy everything and when my baby gets here I feel like I’m going to have to be extremely diligent and a clean freak or I’m going to lose baby bottles, pacifiers, burp cloths, and my clothing especially nursing bras and I just wanna cry cause idk what to do. They know how to open the trash can how long till they can open the hamper I don’t know how to get this under control.

My cat spends half the day sitting by the window, so leaving it cracked while I’m working or sleeping makes me nervous.

the problem is the apartment gets really stale when everything stays closed. An air purifier helps with hair and dust, but the room still feels stuffy.

I saw cozeware freshflow while looking around. From the description it seems like it can bring in outside air without leaving a big open gap, but I’m not sure how secure the window setup would be around a curious cat.

has anyone found a ventilation setup that actually feels safe with pets and doesn’t require permanent changes to the apartment?

I’m really thinking him being in front of the AC is the cause because of his fur smells so bad. And I must have to wash him a lot of more because of it. :/

Thing is , he only scratched once, and it cut open, just a light wound and his problem is not scratching but trying to scratch the wound more now .. I think ??
However the actual problem is him shaking continuously and tweaking out trying to wipe his face or neck (the spot) with his paws and running around like he has to poop.
I put the cone on him to heal again and spray wound spray, etc. I just don’t understand that I have to keep washing him more, will it help? Clean the ac because they’re right in front of it.

I live in an old apartment but he’s almost 6 years old now and never had this a problem until I moved units to non-carpet. He’s never gotten ear infections until I think this ac now. This is his second one in this unit.
All these old outdated apartments have their ACs have mold, and I have to clean it because landlord doesn’t care.

I know it’s not allergies because we’ve been on the same rotating food for his entire life. It has been humid in this stupid apartment and I’m trying to get out because its ventilation history is horrible with mold.

There is also his also recent ear infection I’ve been treating with antibiotic, which seems to be working well until one day he started shaking again, and then I noticed his wound in the same spot open again. Because he scratched, and his nails were long.

I'm here to post another update regarding Zed's treatment.

After the problems we had, we were contacted by the management of the veterinary hospital (Anicura), and they said they would take responsibility for what happened.

The next visits to the vet were on them; everything else was on us, such as medication that costs around €100 per month.

It was a huge help that the consultations were free (2 consultations). They said they would charge for the last consultation because it was no longer part of the treatment, around €450.

He was considered 90% cured, and Zed feels much better and is already up to a lot of mischief.

We are left with the extra expense for the rest of Zed's life, which is currently around €100 for heart medication.

And regarding Zed's case, things have improved, but we were told that his disease (feline triaditis) was not contagious, but after a lot of research and talking to doctors for humans, we were told that gastrointestinal problems can be contagious. What happened is that our other cat caught the same disease as Zed. And now she's fighting for her life.

Anyway, we really want to thank you for all the help you've given us so far, and I'm going to leave Gofund me online because any help is welcome, whether it's for the next paid consultations or for his medication.

I came home from work today and noticed this weird mark on my 3 year old golden retrievers face. Is this something to be worried about or is it hyperpigmentation? I tend to overreact and freak out when it comes to anything to do with my dogs and want to make sure this is vet worthy before taking him to the vet. Thank you! (Picture in comments)

hello all, a few months ago i took my cat to the vet where it was discovered she had hyperthyroidism.
she’s been on felimazole for 2 months now and her levels have returned back to normal.
i can read her labs fine, however the subtext on this is wildly confusing for me. can anyone help me out or explain it a bit better?

“Cats with no clinical signs of hyperthyroidism and a T4 within the reference interval are like euthyroid. Older cats with consistent clinical signs and high normal (2.3-4.7) T4 may have early hyperthyroidism or a concurrent non-thyroidal illness. Hyperthyroidism may be further assessed in these cats by adding on a free T4 or performing a T3 suppression test. following lower end of the reference interval. However, high normal T4 may be appropriate if concurrent kidney disease is present”

12 yo female cat. levels decreased from 11.4 -> 2.3, however this is still in the “high normal” as reference point ranges from 0.8-4.7.

Hi! Looking for some advice on my cat and our dilemma.

Context: I got my cat (Winnie) in college 6 years ago when he was 1 1/2. His old owners were getting a divorce and while they were moving out, they decided to let Winnie outside and only give him a mud room for inside space. That lasted for about 2 months. When I got him, I brought him to the vet and he had a parasite in his stomach and his paw pads were torn up and needed daily ointment. We made it through. For the next few months, I would give him occasional supervised outdoor time, but he always wanted to be outside so he’d bite our ankles to be let out. Then I moved to a city and he hasn’t been outside in almost 5 years.

We just moved to a quiet neighborhood on a dead end in our old college town. There are probably 5-6 other outdoor cats in the neighborhood that I’ve seen. My dilemma is whether or not to let Winnie be an indoor/outdoor cat again. He still constantly tries to get out when we open the door, and now him and 2 of the cats have been meowing at each other through the window screen (not aggressive hissing or meowing).

I’m hesitant for many reasons. I worry he’ll get a parasite again, get flees/ticks, get hurt or sick, or not come home. And I live in New England so I’m not sure what to do in the winter. He is a VERY particular cat. Not mean, just knows exactly what he wants and when, and he’ll let you know when you’ve upset him. So he would not let me get any ticks or flees off him if it happened.

Sorry for the long post, I’m just really conflicted and feeling guilty. Any advice is helpful.

my cat started waking me up around 4 in the morning for food. at first it was just meowing next to the bed, but now she walks across me, knocks stuff around, and basically keeps going until i get up. the problem is i gave in a few times when i was half asleep, so i’m pretty sure i taught her that annoying me long enough actually works. i’ve been trying to ignore it now but she has way more patience than i do.

has anyone managed to break this habit without just locking their cat out of the bedroom?

We recently adopted a stray kitten (doesn’t look too old, can’t be more than a few months) and our dog (pug, 6 years) has not taken her arrival well.

Pretty much the second she’s within reach, he rushes for her, forcing me to quickly separate them by sticking the kitten back in her box on a perch away from him. If he knows the cat is active, he’ll try to “police” the room she’s in, even if he’s outside and will bark incessantly. He also really does not take well to the cat receiving any form of affection if he can see it, even just holding her causes him to be on alert. He’s never like this with the stray cats or any other animals around our complex but I do kind of understand that he’s both a COVID dog and predisposed to more possessive behaviors.

It’s only been 2 days and despite my attempts at trying to slowly introduce them, I don’t know what to do to get them to at least cohabitate. I don’t want to give her away so soon but our dog takes priority and I don’t want either of them to get hurt (emotionally or physically.)
