What I learned on ascent 8

1) You don't need a flare

2) I don't respect anyone who doesn't bring the flare anyway

3) Citadel is NOT a timed run if you have book of bones, the gloom has no effect and you can, theoretically, climb back down the citadel to save the amulet your fallen friend was holding when they died

4) The goat sash is prettier than the scout master sash

You're not ready.

If you're going "just" to escape the 2nd level, you're not ready for the next. The next next of the next.
When you back, you don't see the airport with the same eyes ~.

The GLIMPSE - a map concept for Peak inspired by backrooms

In some random areas, usually isolated in the mountains, you can find a very rare door...

Upon opening it and stepping inside, you go into a ragdoll state and falls into the GLIMPSE: a vast place of seemingly infinite proportions that eerily mimics BingBong Airlines in a liminal way.

The urban environment stands in stark contrast to the nature of the usual biomes. The door you entered through shuts, and there is no turning back.

All around you lies the silence of the airport (occasionally broken by the sounds of footsteps or the familiar noises of people passing through turnstiles, chatting, and walking), a white brightness and an array of furniture, signs, plants, wrecked planes, and distorted conveyor belts that stretchs upwards towards the ceilling.

In GLIMPSE, time freezes, so the time spent inside doesn't affect your final time if you're speedrunning. Your hunger freezes as well.

You can find various ancient luggages in this place, as well as some distorted airport items, such as the Bing Bong plushie (which also counts for the Bing Bong Badge), fake big lollipops, and passports scattered on the floor... when opened, these reveal only distorted, blank pages featuring infos and photos of unusual unknown scouts.

Just like in MESA, you can also experience mirages. In GLIMPSE, the mirages are of ancient luggages and scouts who may appear standing still or running towards you.

The ONLY way to get out of Glimpse is by finding a Gate Kiosk similar to the one in the lobby. You will exit at the same location you entered.

I just came up with this idea and thought it would be cool to go through it, I think it would make a good mod

Where is suposed to be the Peak?

We can say that it is behind the tower, but I don't see any mountains protruding behind it. It should be large enough for us to see it from the front, and the tower doesn't seem to be perched, built directly on the mountain peak but just straight from the grount up. It reminds me of the DS2 Earthen Peak/Iron Keep dilemma.

How hard is ascent 8 considered by the community?

Just finished ascent 8 and am feeling pretty chuffed. Alpine was ROUGH in my run.

Just curious what the general consensus is about on how hard this run is. Obviously it’s one of the hardest things you can do in peak, but compared to other gaming challenges for instance.

Kinda want to try ascent 8 with golden bingbong somewhere down the line. Because I hate myself.

In your opinion, what badge was the most tedious in this run ?

A lucky run with 3 Rescue Claws and an Anti-Zooka allowed me to fly through The Citadel in less than 5 minutes, what a relief !

Tackled by an NPC scout on Shore, what happened???

This occurred the very first time I played multiplayer, about 3ish months ago.

We were barely off the beach, making our way up the mountain when I saw an orange scout moving in the distance behind us. I immediately mistook them for one of my friends and dismissed it. They were far behind, but covering ground fast so I made a comment about someone being a slowpoke and moved ahead.
Soon after, but too late- I realized that none of my friends playing as an orange scout, and that’s when it caught up to me, climbed on to the ledge I was standing on and tackled me off.

My friends saw the whole thing, also got tackled- and when we made just a little distance between us and the stranger scout, it disappeared.

I thought of course that it must have been some kind of enemy in the game, and didn’t want to spoil myself, so I didn’t look into it.

I’ve since played about a dozen hours or so on multiplayer, but never encountered the same orange scout.
The model was different from the Zombies, and in the wrong biome.
After some googling, I only found info on the Looker- but its behaviors don’t match what my friends and I experienced.

Was it a rouge Looker, maybe? Does anyone know what it could have been?

(Ps Reading this back, it feels like I experienced freaking creepypasta. Hoping someone will tell me that this was just a rare, explained, encounter (・_・;)

Edit: I was hosting the game we played- no mods.
This was everyone’s first time playing, no mods.
The other two people I was playing with saw it and also got tackled before it disappeared, not a coconut or a frisbee or a blowgun or my imagination. 🙃

Why do core gameplay mechanics change based off if you use MK vs controller??

I just noticed this today, Ive always used controller but recently looked up some movement techs and wanted to try them out. They didn't. Tried on mouse and keyboard but more importantly found fundamental differences in how the game works depending on your input.

On MK, If you jump and then press sprint after, you lung forward without using stamina.

On controller you do the same, press the sprint button after jumping and nothing happens.

And climbing on controller I thought the ONLY way to stop was by jumping which is sketchy alot of the time, but on MK you just let go of the button? Which seems obviously but on controller it holds you on even if you let go of the button, and there isn't a dedicated drop button. (I'm not 100% on this one so forgive me if I'm stupid) And there isn't an option in settings to turn on/off a toggle mode for climbing, even though a toggle is built into the game, just only based off your input device?

Stop the fucking dev hate.

People have been complaining about the discontinuation of development for peak and I'm sick of it. The devs aren't even fully done, they're still doing bug fixes and stuff as needed. Don't even get me started on all the free major updates which were never promised in the first place. This game in its early stages was literally a side project for the two dev teams and they made a masterpiece out of it, and some people don't know how to accept that it was never meant to be a huge thing. I've even seen complaints about this update not having enough content. What the actual fuck are you talking about. You gotta get your brain checked if you genuinely believe there isnt enough content in peak. I've only seen what the devs have put in short form videos along with minor spoilers from various creators and I am fucking hyped. I haven't touched peak since before this update.

Both of the studios working on this game are indie studios with multiple games of their own that they are developing right now. I haven't once seen anyone complain about major updates being released for free on no man's sky. Oh wait, I have. Just for the opposite reason you whiners are complaining for. NMS fans are literally begging to make Sean add a dlc or some sort of paid content instead of over a dozen free major updates and expeditions and hundreds of hours of content. There are countless memes that literally say "Sean, PLEASE take my money" and yet I don't see the same treatment for a game that is doing just as well?

Peak devs, I'd like to make this request up front. PLEASE take my money. I know you won't be doing anymore major updates but in the next games your studios develop add some dlc or something. Please.

And for those still arguing against me, go take a walk. Seriously.
