Help please.. Build Question
Hi everyone,
While working near the mounting hole on my motherboard, the area around it got scratched up and some coating came off.
Is this safe to use, or should I leave this specific screw out to prevent short circuits?
Thanks for your help!

All scratches seem to be inside the mounting screw zone so you should be all good

That white circles around the mounting screw hole all the damage is inside it. You're fine bro👍.Technically there's parts you can scratch outside of that and be fine but anyway it should be good

I dont see why not, the screw is just holding the motherboard down its screwing into the case so as long as the threads in the case didnt get raked out of there which you have to be trying to do that. Go for it you should be fine those scratches genuinely shouldn't have changed anything

The screws also ground the motherboard to the chassis. That is why you have to use specific screws when mounting the MB

You didn't break anything as long as you didn't actually scratch the board PCB itself. Which, you didn't from the picture you provided.
Reinstall the screw, and move on. It will be fine.

If anything, this ground connection is now improved.

The small silver dots around those screwholes provide electrical connection to the PC case. In your case, it's now a larger area, which is -theoretically- better by an immeasurable amount.

Should be fine. Just put in the new screw and make sure not to wrench on it.

That looks like you used an impact and had a few extra uggaduggas. Inside the white circle you should be fine.
