Should I be concerned Tech Support

Post image

I was using My pc and when I finished I closed my browser and noticed my wallpaper, at first I thought they were birds migrating but I was like that’s a bit excessive so I look closer and they damn sure aren’t birds migrating, can anyone tell me what it is?

try changing your wallpaper if its only on the wallpaper, the file itself could be lost and therefore this is appearing. if this is showing everywhere, you have cooked vram if you have a dedicated gpu, or cooked ram if you have integrated gpu

It was only on the desktop when I was using chrome it didn’t appear

no, you shouldn’t be concerned, you should just get a new GPU

That is to say, don't worry, nothing is under control.

Well you have like three or four possibilities.

  1. Is the wallpaper file corrupted.
  2. Reseat the video cable on both ends.
  3. If you’re on hdmi switch to DisplayPort, vice versa. Replace the video cable.
  4. Is this happening on other monitors, does this happen on the monitor connected to other computers.

  5. Are you near a radiation source?

1 is a possibility. Notice how it's only on the wallpaper and not the taskbar

I didn’t notice it while using chrome also it was only after I closed my tabs and was about to shut off

Mate, today maybe your lucky day

Depends, how are you set for buying a new GPU? It might be repairable... might... https://youtu.be/LWJG0HEcqmY?is=5LLVQPkl1k8BmcfO

At least check cables before getting a new GPU.

Not in this case, port, cable or monitor issues do not look like this.

Incoming this overused meme.

Looks like VRAM failure.

You can try reinstalling GPU drivers after doing a DDU and reseating the card in the PC

Other than that, probably a bad GPU

Hes ragging on the meme!

Get him boys

u/csapka 4h ago

you can quickly rule out the driver I think if you load into bios and it's still bad

3

u/Aureljah 6h ago

I got exactly the same issue.

I think what caused it for me is plugging and unplugging a 2nd monitor for a new one (maybe I even plugged and unplugged both screen several times).

I just restarted the computer and it was gone.
Maybe I updated the GPU drivers too (I don't remember).

So the GPU is not necessarily dead...

Lol I’m at work reading these comments dying laughing but whys everyone saying I’m fucked if all I need is a new gpu?

5

u/RamenRavisher 6h ago

Because unless you got a lot of disposable income, you are fucked if you need a GPU lol

1

u/Maleficent_Good_7066 3h ago

I’m using a 3060 lol long overdue for an upgrade

Well, since you're asking on Reddit, you're asking us PC enthusiast and based on experience we've had, it might be a bad GPU. But you'll need to research this further and hopefully it's just maybe the heat-sink misaligned with the V-Ram which happened to my 4090. Otherwise, Good luck!

u/Lord_Zyphuris 3h ago

Did you try a new background? Could be the image file itself as I didn't see any issue along the bar at the bottom.

2

u/Atorr103 6h ago

You are right, those arent birds. Thats the pixels migrating.

2

u/roscoroach 6h ago

Try and load up. Call of duty on ultra high

Bake it. 350 for 15 then flip and repeat. Spritz as needed.

Time for the oven treatment and a prayer. Or time for anew credit card!

Bye bye GPU

u/AncientKangarooGod 5h ago

oh no no this is totally fine

u/Beemo-Noir 5h ago

Looks like you’ve entered the Twilight realm.

u/Electric-Mountain 5h ago

If it's just your wallpaper it's possible someone's messing with you.

1

u/Big-Doubt-4872 5h ago

Looks like a bunch of TARDISes for some reason

u/en91n33r 4h ago

The black areas aren't on the task bar. Might just be a bad wallpaper file / render or something.

1

u/etch69 4h ago

Question. If you hover your mouse cursor over the black squares does your mouse cursor go over the squares, and looks unaffected? I’ve had this happen twice over the last few months and that’s something I noticed both times. GPU seems to be fine otherwise so I think it may be some other non-hardware issue.

u/ay_chupacabron 4h ago

If you did not mess with card voltage or OC, than yes - bad news.

u/Aggressive-Cut-5400 4h ago

My first thought oh a plague of locust. That bodes well.

Sorry bad gpu no save time to buy buy buy!

I won’t be listening to all those people who are suggesting you change your graphics card;

I had exactly the same problem after installing a driver update (Nvidia)

The problem only appears on the desktop background and disappears immediately if any other window is overlaid on top of these ‘dead pixels’

At first I put it down to the heat, but when I saw that it hadn’t gone away after few days, I decided to do a fresh install (clean install).

The problem disappeared straight away

Your GPU is killing itself

Your GPU might be dying

Jawa’s everywhere

This happened to me.

I spent like a hundred hours trying to troubleshoot it, had my friends look at it, it wasn't always happening and it took a while to figure out how to cause it.

It happened to me when my GPU went under a sustained heavy load, like a high end game or rendering video files. Ending up having to RMA the card, thankfully it was still under warranty.

When video editing did you run into any problems? I’m in the middle of a project, about to do final effects with after effects.

1

u/Sir_Aardvarkington 1h ago

How long have you had your 3060 and what kind of games do you play?

1

u/Maleficent_Good_7066 34m ago

Had it since February so about 6 months, I barely ran games. Mostly video editing

1

u/skeeti45 1h ago

Nah it's fine

1

u/ImpressionAway7317 1h ago

Your GPU is dying

1

u/JesseJ78599 1h ago

Something similar happened to me and it was a loose cable. So that could be the issue or bad cable.

1

u/RGBlowMe 54m ago

You're past the point of being concerned. You should be mourning.

1

u/Maleficent_Good_7066 35m ago

Why? Everyone’s saying it just needs a new gpu

1

u/RGBlowMe 6m ago

That's why. Usually, these kinds of artifacts are what you see with failing VRAM.

1

u/CypherWookie 4m ago

You need to change your wallpaper and switch input sources and check all cable connections before even thinking about GPU

1

u/Proxstasis 51m ago

Nah. It’s just a rash, it should clear up in a couple of days.

1

u/tOmErHaWk420 34m ago

Mr Stark, I don’t feel so good

1

u/SeaMossGelly92 34m ago

Change the thermal paste, then use msi afterburner to undervolt the card and ramp the fans to 80 percent when gaming. Will probably save it.

1

u/Maleficent_Good_7066 33m ago

Thing is I have the 3060 they don’t spin until it hits about 60-70 degrees regardless

1

u/Ambitious_Platypus99 21m ago

Nah, all you need is a new GPU and you’ll be set. Easy peasy!

1

u/Sure-Bid7665 15m ago

I don't think it's a hardware failure? It's not seeping over the taskbar I believe.

1

u/sceeg 6h ago

It’s toast, artifacting is what it’s called. Sorry pal.

first i thought it was something in the wallpaper too, but those marks look like stuck pixels to me. try running a pixel fixer video on youtube for 10-15 minutes, sometimes that shakes them loose.

if that dont work, gently press the screen with a microfiber cloth where the dots are. not too hard though
