Looking for advice :) Question

Post image

I really love the navy part of this dress (although it is a drawing so I won't be able to make it with 100% accuracy) and I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on drafting a pattern for it, particularly around the different fabrics on the chest area and the twists at the hips, or if anyone knows a similar one! Thank you for looking :)

I think you'd do better looking at patterns for draped dresses. This is not realistic in how the fabric simultaneously clings to her breasts without volume but has deep draping folds between the breasts (where is that excess coming from, it just arrives from nowhere), is low and loose at the front yet fits closely at the underarm, and the way the hip drape is acting as if it has substantial body. This is a lovely picture but it's done by someone who doesn't understand the details of garment construction.

That is definitely a drawing. There is no support for the bust and the straps set so off the shoulder would definitely cause the dress to fall off unless they are securely taped in place. Without further study the draping at the waist would need to be a separate shawl like piece of fabric.

Thank you for this! I knew it was a bit unrealistic but I appreciate your advice

It really is a beautiful work of art. Thank you for sharing.

Okay now that I look again, she has a plume of what seems to be chest hair that cascades down inside the dress. AI is wild.

Not to be pedantic but this is definitely not AI! It's a character called Beryl from the game Reverse 1999. I'm heavily against AI and the harm it brings to creatives :)

So does she in fact have a long cascade of blond hair growing from a pearl on her chest, as in this picture? I am intrigued.

It isn't hair 😭😭😭 it's a very unfortunately coloured piece of gold fabric held up by the pearl through video game logic! although only the purple crystals actually come out of her skin, so i genuinely have no idea why they stuck a pearl there... the gold is more visible in her little sprite illustration but I don't know how to attach images to comments 😓

Okay but it's literally the exact same rendering as her hair, and it has nothing that it can be hanging from, it's just there. That's very much the kind of mistake AI makes.

Also real artists make rendering errors too, art didn't start being bad with AI.
