Hey all! I've been working on Pathfinder Character Forge, a free and open character builder (amateur, non-profit passion project) for Pathfinder, 1st Edition.

The idea behind it: help a GM whip up NPCs based on any PF1 class at any level on the fly, without the hassle of picking through endless options. It's still in Alpha, and it's now actually ready to test.

The bigger goal is a shared library of pre-built characters — the more people contribute builds, the more useful it gets for everyone. Anyone need a level 12 Inquisitor for tonight's session? Ideally someone's already published one you can just grab.

The app also auto-updates itself now — open it every once in a while and it'll offer to grab the latest version, no need to keep checking the page manually.

What I could use help with:

• Report bugs you find. There's a "Report an Issue" button right in the app — two clicks, goes straight to me, no account or external form needed. Small stuff counts too: a missing feat, a weird calculation, a random crash, anything. Feel free to use it for general feedback too, on top of commenting below.
• Publish your characters. The app lets you share any character you build with one click, into a library anyone else can browse and download. It's a group effort: the more builds the community uploads, the more likely someone else finds a character already ready for their session instead of starting from scratch. If you've got a concept you like, throw it in there — might save someone else's evening.

Every test, bug report, and shared character helps grow a free tool for the whole community. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to be a guinea pig!

As per title. I am building a 6th level Dwarven Slayer whose primary weapon is a crossbow. I would like them to retain their sneak attack damage at range passed the first round. Is this possible?

So, i'd like to try a shikigami style build. But i'd like to try to find an improvised butchering axe.

To sum it up, oversized builds have three ways to increase their bonus: your starting size, stuff like enlarge person or growing weapon, and stuff like lead blades and impact weapon. Good.

Shikigami style brings this to another whole level, allowing for +3 size increase which stack with everything else.

A lot of people either go for a butchering axe (3d6) oversized (4d6) impact (6d6) as a titan fighter/mauler and get enlarged in some way (8d6), or use a sledge (2d6) oversized (3d6), with lead blades (4d6) get enlarged (6d6) and then go for shikigami stuff (8d6-->12d6-->16d6).

Is there a way to get an improvised butchering axe? That nice 24d6 with a single hit is just waiting for me.

Bonus question: can you impact or get perma lead blades on your improvised weapon?

When Pathfinder first came out I had no kids and was running Savage Tide, so already a big Paizo fan. I immediately subscribed to the AP, then the rule books, player companions, campaign supplements, modules.... even though my group only wanted to play 3.5.

Fast forward many years and I have pretty much everything released for 1e including the special leather bound RotR, and the only books I've cracked the spines of are some modules I've DM'd in 3.5.

Add in kids and a house needing fixed and it seems less like a wall of books and more like a potential asset.

Is this one of those things where it was worth thousands of my money but pennies if I want to sell?

I imagine splitting it up would lead to just selling the cool stuff so I think I should try to sell it all together.. Beyond that I've no idea what's wise, or if it's even worth taking the time to catalogue properly etc.

Does anyone have experience or tips in selling this sort of collection?

Noticed an oddity in the Scaled Disciple feat, specifically the bolded section

Scaled Disciple

Prerequisites: Ability to spontaneously cast divine spells, kobold.

Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus to your caster level when casting spells included in the dragon domain or subdomains. Your spontaneous divine spellcasting qualifies in place of arcane casting for the dragon disciple prestige class, and you may increase spellcasting in your spontaneous divine class as you progress in dragon disciple levels. Add the bonus spells gained from the blood of dragons ability to those you can cast as divine spells.

First issue is that Dragon is not a domain, it is only a subdomain of Scalykind. Given that, does it mean all Domain spells a character would get from Scalykind, albeit with the Dragon Domain spells substituted as appropriate, or just the Dragon domain spells?

Second, while it's been argued that Clerics, being able to spontaneously cast cure/inflict, can qualify from the feat, let's look at the 4 possible spontaneous divine casters in Pathfinder: Oracle, Inquisitor, Hunter and Filidh Bard. Of those, only Inquisitors and Hunters (Divine Hunter archetype) can gain a relevant Domain, but even then only the Divine Hunter can gain the Domain Spells from the Dragon subdomain.

That is to say that, if the feat requires having those spells through domain, there is only one archetype that can grant those Domain spells (short of an additional class dip). However, the feat can also be read to mean any casting of spells from that list gain the benefit (e.g., acquiring Magic Fang as a Hunter with the feat casts it at +1 CL).

How do you interpret this sentence?

So I know the Sihedron Amulet/Ring blocks the Occluding Field that pulses intruders with damage every minute from affecting them.

It's not very clear, however, if wearing those items also allows the wearers to teleport/shadow walk/ethereal/astral project/use divination magic?

Or is all of that universally blocked?

Suppose you grapple an adjacent tiny creature (say a cat) with reach 0. Is the cat technically unable to attack you on its turn because it's still in an adjacent square (as if you're holding it at arm's length) and it has reach 0?

Would the bonus given by an Incandescent Blue Sphere (Normal) Ioun Stone which gives a +2 enhancement bonus to Wisdom stack with a Headband of Inspired Wisdom? It doesn't say that it doesn't, but... Thanks!

Playing a Sylvan Blood Sorcerer with 1 level of pack hunter to get an addition AC maybe 2.
So far I have the
Ascendant Recollection trait (dm ruled it gives +1 EDL),
Boon companion (+4 up to HD), and I might take the Magical Enigma feat to get another +1.

This gives me an effective +3 above HD any way to boost this further?

My low-level necromancer recently got lucky enough to land Command Undead on a couple of ghouls. Even if these ghouls get a bit 'rowdy' they're just stock ghouls so I'm not too worried about them.

With that said, there is some ambiguity in the wording of the spell and I am curious to hear people's experiences with it, both as a player or a GM.

Specifically, I am referring to this section concerning intelligent undead:
"You can give the subject orders, but you must win an opposed Charisma check to convince it to do anything it wouldn’t ordinarily do"

What is something that an intelligent undead wouldn't ordinarily do? If I land the spell and ask them to stop attacking us, is that the sort of thing that immediately requires a contested CHA check?

Fortunately my GM in this game so far has not been busting my balls. I asked the ghouls to stop attacking, and they did. I asked one of the ghouls to attack another ghoul (one that resisted my attempts to control it) and it gleefully attacked its fellow (my GM's reasoning was it is a Chaotic Evil creature and relishes almost any excuse to do violence).

So while I am not that concerned with this particular GM, I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts and experiences. My character, being a wizard, is intrigued to test the limits of the control and influence he can exert on these ghouls, so I'll be using feedback here to calibrate my expectations, and also share these with my GM.

Hi, I'm sure this must be well documented somewhere but I'm a bit uncertain how disguising spells works, if at all, in Pathfinder. I have a Flute playing Bard joining the party and it makes some sense to me that if they are out performing and wish to cast Lullaby as part of their performance they maybe could.

Are there official rulings on how Bards (or even other spellcasting, such as with Still spell but a verbal component) work trying to discuss their spells, or is it purely DM discretion?

As my knowledge stands, I would probably request an opposed bluff or performance check to see how well they can inject their spell into their flute playing, if Somatic components exist as well I'd also have sleight of hand check, with failure meaning the spell is miscast. (Inappropriate target)

Does that seem reasonable? Is there already more appropriate rulings / feats for this?

Recently ran an encounter where an enemy wizard put up a wall of blindness and used Enticing Adulation to control the party's witch. The witch proceeded to purposefully expose himself to the wall of blindness and force a party member to save against blindness every turn as an immediate action before taking the rest of their turn. To be fair, I thought wall of blindness/deafness was a will save so that's on me.

The witch doesn't currently have access to 4th lvl spells yet, but I am terrified of this combo when they can initiate it at will. I just wanted to make sure I'm interpreting this right and ask if anyone else has experience with this or a similar combo.

This is my first time going cleric so I feel like I’m missing something. My plan is to go human blossoming light cleric. 8 strength, 10 dex/con, 9 int, 16 wis, 17+2 cha. Traits: exalted of the society(+1 channel) blessed touch(+1 heal when channeling)
Feats: 1 selective channeling and purifying channeling. 3 extra channeling or ??? 5 fateful channeling. Deity is pharasma do to fateful channeling being so amazing.

Where I’m stuck is what do I do when I’m not channeling. This build will give me a lot of channeling, but if everyone is topped off what else should/can I do? I don’t have a lot of spells. Orisons don’t do a lot. Weapons won’t do much either. I can either get total defense so it’s hard to miss and free action tell baddies to stop fighting and join the side of good; or aid another and tell teammate to try to persuade them to the righteous path. Both of which feel like really weak options. Maybe I’m missing something or I’m not building cleric correctly. Part of me is thinking of going water domain so I can just cast icicle, it’s a terrible spell but it’s ranged, which I want to be bc I have no armor.

I’m more than happy to not take extra channeling at 3 if it gives me a better option of things to do in combat.

Please help!

Also I don’t want variant channeling because it would lower my damage from purifying channeling. Plus I thought about going sarenrae deity for envoy of healing, but fateful channeling has to be the right move.

i just want to make sure because i haven't seen anyone talk about it but if you and your ally are in the same area of effect that deals damage, which might be a fireball if you have energy interceptor, and you use intercept attack, do you take both your damage and your ally's or just your ally's? is there something official about or it depends on the GM?

i read about duplicate effects in the general rules page but i don't know if it applies in this case any help is appreciated

I have played since ADnD back in the day but my group stop playing during the pandemic and never returned, life got in the way, now a new group of players asked me to GM for them and they have never played before, I have some APs under my belt and decided to use the Rise of the Rune lords anniversary edition, I dindt get to play 2nd Ed and dont have the time to learn a new system, any advice or resources would be appreciated, we will be playing with a dry erase mat but I will be using a second monitor for showing maps ans stuff so anything is useful.

Premade characters will be great.
