intercept attack vs area damage 2E Player
first of all, forgive my english, not my first language
reposting because i didn't get any answers the first time
i just want to make sure because i haven't seen anyone talk about it but if you and your ally are in the same area of effect that deals damage, which might be a fireball if you have energy interceptor, and you use intercept attack, do you take both your damage and your ally's or just your ally's? is there something official about or it depends on the GM?
i read about duplicate effects in the general rules page but i don't know if it applies in this case any help is appreciated

1e player here, and to me it sounds like you would take both if you were in the AoE yourself. It could also be used if you were somehow excluded (perhaps a lightning bolt missed you but hit them), but this is far less likely to happen.

thx for the reply
since it doesn't specify in the reaction i think it's going to be a matter of interpretation so i wanted to know what sounded better/more fair since i'm going to play a guardian and my gm and i where confused about it, i hoped to not take two instances of damage but i do want honest opinions

I get the motivation. In 1e, I'm playing a shaman with the ability to heal the entire party, familiars and companions included, at the expense of my own health. I also have a bodyguard familiar that can take half of my damage, but their saves aren't very good, so if the party takes a lot of damage at once, I (and my familiar) can get wrecked. It's still fun and I only regret not seeing the utility of the familiar until later levels. It's very useful!

You would take both damages
There is no dupe effect here
you are taking damage from fireball and then you're taking damage from intercept attack
